Wait, this guy made SF: LoCL?

It's like they keep chipping away at any hope I have of this being a good movie.

How exactly does one girl have more of a right to live than twelve ancient endangered giants, anyway? It's nice that the dude loves her and all, but I'll bet his horse felt really guilty afterwards. Then again, maybe the horse dies at some point...?

In the context of the movie, I have to say that it ruins everything for me if the movie writers couldn't find something worthwhile to dramatize, glorify, highlight, scrutinize or whatever it is they're doing other than making up witty bits of dialogue, killing off random likeable characters, burning things, blowing things up, throwing in a sex scene and all the other random things we've grown so accustomed to.

i hear people all over the net screaming blood, the scribe involved is poor yes, but this movie has potential.. it needs to be like a mix of the dark crystal the never ending story and labrynth. it needs to capture that type of magic. also people saying it has no story are vastly wrong it was told in brief cinamatics
chronologically most of the story is before the events of the game. dormin is imprisoned in the colussus, mono dies/ becomes sick, wander hears about the forbidden land, hears the elders sword of light is the only thing to defeat the collussus, steals his sword, take mono and agro to the forbidden land, ...game starts ...theres a third of a movie before the sequences of the game transpire. there is ALOT of story in Sotc.

I don't care what this hack of a writer has to say about this film. Even if you good a talented writer, a very talented writer involved to make SotC into a film, it would still bomb, and you know why?

It is a game, and it was never intended to be anything else, because it would not work as anything else. This film will bomb spectacularly, I guarantee it.

I will reserve judgment until I hear more but please if there is going to be a great movie based on a game please make it this one. Please do not mess up one of my all time favorite games. Please take your time and do not add to much let it be an experience like the game was.

Max Payne killed all of my hopes for a good movie based on a game. They had the whole script delivered with the game, in picture...

So this? I really can't be optimistic.

I think they will be making it live action, but as so little has been released about the film its very hard to tell.

Still, the guy wrote the Chun Lee film. As much as I wish to get very annoyed with him for touching this, its is better to wait. Remember how everyone thought that watchmen would be terrible?
Um, I think a lot of people walked away from that movie thinking it was terrible.
A fanatical vocal minority who honestly wouldn't be satisfied unless it was the graphic novel pasted on film reel with Alan Moore voicing it, and a handful of reviewers who honestly weren't able to grasp what the entire movie was about.

You have a funny definition of minority. I'd say the people who actually liked the film are the ones being fanatics.

I always thought that people said it was a great movie? I certainly didn't hear anyone say it was terrible per se, but I heard that it was awesome. I watched it an liked it anyways.

I'll give Justin Marks the benefit of the doubt, after all we all want this movie to be as amazing as the game was. And just the fact that this guy knows that this is going to be hard (as evidenced by this very article no less!) and him telling us himself why he thinks this video game to movie adaptation would work shows that he really wants this to work himself.

However, I'll be pinching a metric-ton of salt about any further news on the movie...

Uh oh... My Uwe Boll alarm is ringing!

A untalented hollywood writer using a game as a canvas to smear his shit on? Why I never...

No, you are bad, and should feel bad.
Unless I'm ASTOUNDED, this guy is getting the immediate write-off.

To be honest I think Hollywood is running out of ideas. Besides, why spend time and effort to make something new and risk it failing when you can latch onto an idea that's already successful so it won't matter if it goes down in flames.

That being said, there's still a small desperate hope left in me that this movie will be good, and not just another nail in the coffin of the games to movies industry.

Now, the only problem I have with this is that fact that he wants to 'build the world up'. He says that the beauty of SotC is its sparsity. Exactly and if you reveal ANYTHING about the world then you ruin that sparsity. Personally I think Ico would have been the better movie adaption choice, I can actually see that being a decent translation. But the fact remains that the translation from one medium to the other in the case of video games has led to nothing but mediocrity.
An Ico game might actually have a chance.

I just really don't hold high hopes for this one

They better not make an Okami movie... I would probably kill myself

Shia Lebouf as lead! ha ha
I think we have a producer in our midst! Welcome to the Escapist! Hope it's sunny in Hollywood!

Seriously, though: not a good sign that the writer feels the need to explain himself and run damage control before he's even written the thing.

I say let Uwe make it. At least then there'll be nudity. Though judging by Postal, it'll probably be male...
Thank you! I live in Ohio, but that doesn't stop Mr Lebouf from slashing his way through movies I could have liked...(mutter mutter transformers mutter mutter)

Seriously though this is par for the course for the game-to-movie trade. In their rush to make a buck they pick the first ballbag writer/producer/director who will sign on to get it made and out there. I would suggest Weta Studio and Fernando Meirelles or someone who isn't afraid to take a risk and make it brilliant.
