My girlfriend is a notoriously petulant child when it comes to me suggesting something for us to watch. We often have very differing tastes when it comes to watching movies or television, so whenever *I* suggest something, she assumes it's going to be the epitome of what she won't like and actively tries not to like it, i.e.: doesn't pay attention, finds a reason to get up from her chair, etc.
Well, I've been trying to get her to sit still and watch Luther for 5 YEARS, and we've never made it past the first 5 minutes of the first episode. What does she like? Idris Elba, crime stories and drama, literally checks every box for her. I finally convinced her, BEGGED her, to watch just ONE episode, and I'd never bring it up again, and she agreed. 6 hours later, we'd binged the entire first season, and she's loving it. I'm not an "I told you so" sorta guy, and she's not one to admit when she's been childishly stubborn and wrong, but she knows I know I told her so.

Ah, yes I did. Sorry my eyes just kind of skimmed over the title and brain assumed Lucifer given the gamer forum context. At work so quickly and easily sidetracked. I was wondering why you mentioned Idris Elba in relation to Lucifer though, but my brain just assumed he had a cameo or something after I stopped watching.
I've never even seen Lucifer, but by your suggestions, I made the mental leap.
LUTHER is the BBC show starring Elba in which he plays a emotionally volatile detective who bends and breaks the rules for the greater good. It's a really good show, if you've not seen it. Been telling my gf that for 5 years, and she's only now agreeing with me, like, she's a low-key fanatic now. Ironically, after all my years of begging, she made me stay up until 4am watching it with her.
Never seen this guy's stuff before, it is probably too high quality for its own cringe-inducing good. Better viewed when not particularly of sober mind mayhaps.

This is brilliant. Exactly why I can't get through Tenet.
Nolan seems to follow the old "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit" axiom.
I like many of Nolan's films and understand how they can be a bit... convoluted for some people's tastes, but Tenet certainly was a bridge too far for even me. The right-facing guy in that video is me every time I try to sit through that gnarly dog shit piece of cinema.
