So I was just playing C&C 3 when I heard airoplanes flying pretty close to my house. Theres a fire about 5 or 6 miles right from where I live. They seem to be doing a okay job at controling it and more planes and heliocopters are coming in. So far no news of the fire on the telly or the internet.

So escapist I guess the topic would be how close has your home come to danger before.

EDIT: They got the fire under control pretty quickly, they smoke is dying down. Which is good because I'm the only one home right now and the only thing that seperates me from that fire is 5 or 6 miles of dry forest and a couple of house who are even closer.

For the record I live in a small area, there are only about 7 house this fire can endanger.
I had pretty much the exact same experience that you are having right now. A few weeks ago Colorado had its most destructive fire on record which happened to occur only 5 miles away from my house. Thankfully it didn't spread a mile closer or I would've had to evacuate.

Not so much my home, but I was across the road doing a children's party at my previous job when the old people's home burnt down. Stupid managers didn't even evacuate the building.

I've been unsupervised with a bunch of my friends and enough fireworks to get us classified as a terrorist organization if we weren't all fourth- and fifth-graders and it was 2010 and not 1987.

That's as close to danger as I suspect it's humanly possible to get. Ten-year-old boys + explosives = epic danger level.

My car exploded 4 weeks ago. Around 2 in the morning, some jackass stuck a rag in my gas tank, lit it and BOOM! Apparently that same night, the guy hit a pickup truck in which the owner was still sleeping! Now he's hit at least 15 cars in the past couple weeks and the cops still haven't caught the guy. I live in Sunnyvale, California, btw.

I live in South Australia, we sometimes get bushfires. Never experienced any large ones, and if I did I live in between the city and the beach and I'm right by downtown so I'm pretty safe and all I'd get is heaps of smoke around my house from far far away.

The absolute closest was when i was over at my uncle rodger's house in a small town in Georgia... A thief ran across the backyard... Followed by several policemen....

The January 2009 bushfires (in Australia) threatened my house. One of the fires started in our neighbors farm and we had the water bombing helicopter Elvis refueling in one of our dams for a while. Our house came under ember attack but we got lucky and nothing caught.

I live in California, near a nature preserve. There's fires within a couple of miles of my house every summer.

On a different note, a bunch of F18s were flying over my university today. For a second I thought the Russians were finally invading.

my home town burned down. the wildfire in California came so close it was ACROSS THE STREET from my house. this wasn't in the mountains either, the fire got so close to my town the town itself caught on fire. no one ever expected it to come that close to the town since of our close proximity to LA.

Earthquake of magnitude 8.2. I felt like I was walking on jelly...

C&C, really? That would've been such a let down, if it weren't for the cinematics.

Well, the G20 protests happened downtown. But other than that, nothing really. Toronto isn't a very exciting place for me.

Well, minus that one time my cousins and I were playing with explosives. Uttering the phrase "it's not going to light" is always wrong. It will always light after that.

A few tornados have landed in the area around my house over the years.

The closest one touched down in the property next to mine.

I had a 32 car pile-up on the highway, that happens to go right behind my house, about 3 miles down... My brother was an EMT at the time and helped out. I had a wild bear run through my neighborhood a while ago, but every now and then I get coyotes in my back yard. I'm on the edge of a city, in the suburbs so having a bear running about is crazy...
Every night we have too bring in our bird feeders or a bear steals 'em and leaves them broken in the woods. Been doing that for weeks...

Anyway, every fourth of July we have fireworks battles with some people a quarter mile down the road, and the house gets hit at least once every time. That's about it.

lets see...

The terrible ice storm occurred and most of the houses in the neighborhood were heaviliy damaged by ice except mine luckily.

A tornado struck my neighborhood and destroyed my cousin's trailer but luckily her and her child were ok. It picked up our hay loft before dropping it and you probably cannot immagine the mess that occured from that. Our roof had some damage from this incident but lukily that was the only part damaged. That incident was the biggest mess second only to the ice storm.

Our entire field caught on fire one year again luckily no one was hurt.

thats all i can think of at the moment.

A factory up and exploded maybe fifteen miles from my house a year ago at like 2 AM. No one died or was hurt by the initial explosion, but a lot of people in the direct vicinity fell, got shit dropped on their heads, or got cut up by shattering windows. Good stuff.

My home? I suppose a fire that happened a block or so away when I was a child. My place of residence? Much, much closer as I spent about two years occupying various cots throughout Iraq. The closest I suppose was the sudden introduction of a 122mm rocket that landed ~ 35m from the building (and ~20m from where I was standing, picking up garbage as part of a detail. Were it not for a well placed Jersey Barrier, I probably would have been badly wounded rather than just a bit hard of hearing for a few hours).

Once at my high school, a kid came up behind another student and slammed his head into a locker, then started kicking him in the stomach when he was down. One of the teachers came up and took him down.

It was rad.

Uhm...the closest thing like that that I can think of was my Mom's car being attacked by a wild pig coming down the street...
What can I say, I got nothing.
