FYI I will be getting the PC version.
Should I get Dead Rising 2 or Left 4 Dead 2? The combination of sandbox style gameplay with co-op gets me really interested, although Left 4 Dead 2 has almost the same replayability and co-op doesn't require GFWL, that jerk.
Price is no matter (DR2 is $39 PC, L4D2 is $38 IIRC)
DR2 is NOT A SANDBOX. it actually has a TIME LIMIT of 72 IN GAME HOURS. the hours are not long either, so you have to race against time or you lose. you also have to return to the safe house every 24 hours to give a brat her medicine. sandbox games do not time you on how long you play. the entire idea of a sandbox is to do what you want when you want, not put in not one but TWO bullshit time limits.
I disagree with that sentiment. The deadlines give the game and overall sense of tension and urgency that most games lack. You can evade blows, take cover from bullets, or jump over an obstacle, but the ever-present deadline is what makes you run the extra mile.
only for that to turn to tedium when the brat cries for her medicine. i can deal with the 72 hour bullshit but a brat that constantly needs to be coddled is a step too far. it should at least have an option to tell the dumb redhead behind the computer monitor to give the damn medicine to her or the pharmacist survivor in the first zombrex mission.
I think you're looking a bit too much into it here, but I think the point is to give your character something (and someone) to fight for. I don't know about you, but if my daughter was in danger of being zombified unless she took a shot every 24H, I wouldn't trust some random stranger I've never met before to deliver the life-saving medicine while I go out on an errand.
oh yes because a leader of a zombie rights group or a trained pharmacist WHO YOU SAVED isn't trustworthy. i know a dumb ass game mechanic when i see it and that is a retarded way to do things.
EDIT: telling me "i am looking too much into it" is retarded. you cannot justify a dumbass game mechanic by saying "it wants you to love this brat! WAH!"
Really? You've only got to deliver Zombrex a few times to her, and she's not that annoying. Hell, she's like 6 years old and seems to be coping rather well to the horror she's been thrown into. Also makes Chuck a bit more likeable, seeing the lengths he'll go to to try and save his daughter.
Also, the 72 hour time limit isn't really that bad. Hell, if you really want, you can go off and kill zombies the entire time, leaving the story to rot. It'll get dull after a while though, since half the fun, at least for me, is trying to get to the survivors in time, save them, and still get around to the plot.
And also yes, you do seem to be getting pretty damn worked up over this. Calm down, and don't get so annoyed by a game mechanic that is easily completed, and if not, easily ignored.

Depends, do you have friends to play with? If yes, then I highly recommend Left 4 Dead 2, but they are both really good games in my opinion.
how is dead rising 2, or more specifically, how strict is the time limit in that game? like is it forgiving enough that you can spend a lot of time experimenting with weapon combinations and leveling up?
Generally the main plot stuff doesn't take a huge amount of time to do. You'll have a good wad of time for you to do your own thing in between missions. Whether you just want to mess around and kill shit, go grind exp, or save survivors, you'll have the chance to do it.
Also, the game's a bit more forgiving than Dead Rising 1, at least in terms of survivors. They seem to do a decent job now at actually surviving if you give them decent weapons.
Oh, and in case it wasn't clear enough to the OP if he's reading this, my opinion sides with Dead Rising. It's some of the most fun I've had recently in a game. The combo weapons are just fun as hell to use. My entire inventory is taken up by them at this point.
