I don't know what to tell you besides to look at user reviews on the gaming websites. They usually tell more about what is good or bad about the game because they are impartial and not supported by the games sponsoring their website. Other than that, rent it or find a demo for the PC version if it exists.

Also, youtube videos are a generally good indicator of the quality of the game.

What type of game are you expecting?

If you expect a non-linear game with lots of things to do besides the main job, dont even bother.

If you expect some good action in exchange for a tight grip on the progression, go for it.

Actually, just rent it. Its how I decided whether I should take Bioshock or not :D

If you ask me, NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER .......... buy a game based on a 'professional review'. They only judge a game on presentation - not on gameplay. A bunch of status-quo bastards. Lookup the game. Check out the forums. Decide for yourself. The fewer people listen to idiots like IGN the more geniunly fun and creative, if unpolished, games will become popular.

Best way I can describe Mafia 2:

It's the best gangster movie I ever played. The story is phenomenal, the attention to detail in getting the world right, like the cars, the slang, the fashion. It's fun, too; the driving, the missions, even the cut scenes.

It's a worthwhile game; definitely as fun as Bioshock 1 and 2, Bad Company 2, or GTA IV. There's not true "sandbox" mode to the game, though, and no MP of any kind, if you were looking for that. It's a game solely to tell the best mobster story it can, and immerse you in the life of Vito Scaletta as he works his way to being a made man.

In short: pick it up. Very fun, very cool, and very violent. Two thumbs up here.

honestly? i just beat it like thirty seconds ago, i was blo0wn away, its superb. great story, great mechanics, great gameplay, believable voice acting. get it. now.

edit: also, the cop system is really cool, they hand out tickets if you get in a car crash and shit, i like that. but be warned, its really really really realistic, if you get shot point blank or get in a really bad crash your done, so if thats not what you want, still get it, because i fucking love it.

If you get more reviews like this when you search, you will likely be able to find out that its a great game. Just ignore the professional scores.

On a scale of 1-10 5 is average by virtue of being middle of the road. Get the damn game if you enjoyed it.

I liked it. I'm warning you about the ending though. The game was fun, and if you want there are some points where you can take a break and be a cathartic asshole, but the game kinda pushes you to keep playing the story.

Why does it really need a rating? Just read the previous posts; it's obvious that this game is pretty darned good at least. Get a demo, or rent it: these two little things have been said over and over again here, and they ring true.

on 1-10 what would u guys rate it
10 all the way for me, read my previous post, a story drivin game that tries alot of things that havent been done before, especially after all of the multiplayer based games, its just amazing, it just is, and the collectables are playboy pinups from the actual time periods, which is nice, and the world is just so beautifully realized, and all of the characters develop, on top of that the story is also about friendship, betrayal, and revenge, but it pulls it off in its own unique way.

Was so pissed off too. Also I liked
the connection with the first game. "Hello Mr. Angelo, Mr. Salieri sends his regards."

This game was a huge disappointment

-They removed features they promised (to be sold later as DLC)
-The ending is abrupt with no closure and clearly shows DLC will be sold to continue the story
-playing through 3 of 14 chapters in 20 minutes
-more than one chapter consists of only ONE mission
-My crime family appears to only have about 6 people in it
-There's nothing to do between cutscenes
-I can't shoot from the car (maybe -I- wanted to lean out the window with a tommygun for a change!)
-there's no reason to step into a diner.
-there's way too many cops around
-there's no side missions (no hits, no insurance money, no roughing people up?)
-I'm a big tough mafioso, I wanna give some orders too dammit!
-theres no point in buying guns since you get them during missions and they eventually all get taken away at various points.
-a single GTAIV expansion has more mission content than this game

If you have a console, rent it. If you have a PC, pirate it. It's a big waste of money since PC has fewer features than the PS3 version and I won't be making the same mistake again.
