IGN were right and wrong. The game is extremely linear but you don't care because the missions are what you want. You can always just stop doing the mission and mess around killing people anyway. You yearn for the story because it's such a delight to see.

Get it. No doubt you will have fun. I got it yesterday (I pre-ordered and it came a day before release, score. Or is that the usual?) and I've already clocked about 7 hours on it. I only came off to shut my brother up. I just can't get enough.

Well it's a sandbox third person shooter with a cover system.

Question is do you like mob movies, because everything else doesn't really matter since you can find 20 other games with the other description...=/

IGN wanted a GTA clone, it's obvious.
If you liked Mafia 1 or if you want a great story then get it :)

You don't need to liste to IGN. They gave MW2 9.5 and said that the multiplayer is balanced, while they gave Starcraft 2 9.0 and complained that people who never played SC1 won't see what's the big deal %(

any game where a boss fight involves fighting someone trying to rape you is a winner in my book

Best way I can describe Mafia 2:

It's the best gangster movie I ever played. The story is phenomenal, the attention to detail in getting the world right, like the cars, the slang, the fashion. It's fun, too; the driving, the missions, even the cut scenes.

It's a worthwhile game; definitely as fun as Bioshock 1 and 2, Bad Company 2, or GTA IV. There's not true "sandbox" mode to the game, though, and no MP of any kind, if you were looking for that. It's a game solely to tell the best mobster story it can, and immerse you in the life of Vito Scaletta as he works his way to being a made man.

In short: pick it up. Very fun, very cool, and very violent. Two thumbs up here.
Totally agree, I finished the game already and it's one of the best game I ever played.

If you like mob stories then get it. If you like sandbox games, don't. 8/10 for me since I like sandboxs but I just freakin loved the story telling.

most of the time you're playing the mafia's taxi service and the vast majority of the time you're just driving point A to point B with sporratic gun battles in the middle.

It might as well be called "Chauffeur II"

I loved the original mafia game, but this game feels empty to me

Most games like this are just basically driving someone around and shooting something. The thing aboust this is that the story is well worth it.

You could just rent it and see if you like it or not without any actual commitment.
i dont like renting games
Get the demo? Also, when did a 7 become bad?
Once you figure out how they rate the games it does.

It looks really great. I was thinking about getting it as well.

Which one is more accurate? It's the reviewers opinion! Damn it!

"I'm sorry Bob, your opinion about Avatar is wrong. I just checked Metacritic, and the metascore was ten points higher than what you gave it."

"Oh, that's my bad, I'll get my brain re-calibrated to better fit in with the normal mind set, can't have independent thought now, can I?"

*Ahem*

Anyway, the IGN guy gave it a seven because of gameplay and technical issues, so play the demo. If you don't mind the gameplay or the technical aspect, than go ahead. Get it.

i got the demo and loved it but a 7 is average not what i was expecting
On a scale of 1-10 5 is average by virtue of being middle of the road. Get the damn game if you enjoyed it.
The gaming press thinks otherwise. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FourPointScale]
My mistake. I was under the impression we were basing the numerical reviews on common sense and not pure bullshit.

Just another reason to not pay any notice to these sorts of reviewers.
