Only people with no lives or little willpower (or they are just young) get addicted to World Of Warcraft.
I just bet you'd be the sort to tell people with a gambling addiction to "just suck it up" and pull themselves up by their bootstraps, too. Nevermind what them eggheaded psychomologists say, a REAL MAN doesn't get addicted to anything!
That point is not invalid. A gambling addiction is fuelled by either greed, desperation, or excessive optimism. It doesn't take much to stop and think that maybe it's not such a good idea

I just can't recommend this MMO to anyone. I fired a guy at work a couple of years ago when the 'Burning Crusades' expansion came out. He couldn't get to work on time anymore, and when he was at work, he had a bad attitude and couldn't stop talking about WoW.

I played WoW for two months a few years ago. I tried to see what everyone thought was so great about it. But all I found was a bunch of elitists, immature douchebags and other people who didn't know what the hell they were doing. Out of my ten year experience with a variety of online games, my time with WoW was the least enjoyable.

A friendlier, less bitchy MMO is City of Heroes. But if you want free, try Perfect World International. It's fun, and the people for the most part are pretty helpful.

I'm not sure whether or not to recommend WoW, since you didn't really say anything about your taste in games. I played WoW for a few years, and enjoyed most of it. I enjoyed leveling my characters and exploring new sections of the game world. Once I reached the top levels, though, the game devolved into repetitious grinding of the same dungeons in the hopes of better loot that would allow grinding higher dungeons. So, I quit.

My advice is to take advantage of the free trial that Blizzard offers. It's a very limited trial. You'll only be able to advance (if memory serves) to level 10 or so, you won't be able to send or receive in-game mail, and you won't be able to take up any crafting skills. However, you'll get a good idea of how the general gameplay works, how combat feels, and what the in-game community is like.

What's it like playing WOW ? In all honesty, it's a grind. While I quit before Cataclysm came out, a fair share of, and the entirety surrounding endgame is about doing the same thing repeatedly.

Is it hard to get into ? No. In fact, the learning curve on it is whittled down to almost nothing, especially in the beginning. Learning to be good at your role takes work and patience, but picking the game up and playing is extremely easy.

Is it as addicting as they say? That depends on you. Are you the type of person who always needs to get further, get that next level, that next piece of gear, or see that new zone you haven't been to? If you are, then you may find yourself staying up late on the weekends, but it's all about your level of maturity and ability to pull yourself away and get back to the real world.

How expensive is WOW? Wow is $15 a month. A reasonable cost, especially if you do get into it and its the only thing you do. As a former military man, it's certainly cheaper then going out to the bar or going clubbing every weekend. Admittedly, if your on a tight budget, MMO's in general and especially WoW offer a lot of bang for the buck.

Do you need all expansions? If you want to get to max level and see all the content. Yes. In fact, your going to need all of them if you want to see the updated starting areas that everyone is playing in now.

Does the world change? If by, when you kill a boss does it stay dead? No. For the most part, anything that you do will be undone after a cooldown timer when the thing respawns for the next person. Again though, having not played Cataclysm, I can't comment on what changes have been made recently since I know they are using phasing technology far more.

What should I expect? This depends on you and whether you enjoy the game or not. I can say that no matter what server you go to, expect to meet the gamut of people. From folks who you will form long time bonds to, to people who you would like to push into a fire.

Any suggestions? Don't play it. While Warcraft may be the big kid on the block, it's certainly not the best, nor the most recent. If you want to get into MMO's find one that appeals to what you enjoy. Aion, Rift, admittedly, playing anything other then WoW will help further the MMO genre by taking a body away from Blizzards monolith and putting it somewhere else. Of course there are other MMO's coming out too that you may enjoy. Tera and Star Wars: The Old Republic come to mind, as well as Guild Wars 2.

If you want to play WoW though, my only suggestion is to not tie yourself to it. I understand that after spending countless hours working on a character, and making some friends along the way, it's hard to turn around, leave it all and start over. It's like moving to a new city, away from all your friends...but sometimes moving is the best way for us to grow, and if you find you enjoy it, tell your others friends to come over and play it with you. In the end, it's a game, and a game should never make you feel like you have to continue playing it if you don't enjoy it.

Well I think I said(if the post got trough that verification system with funny letters) that I don't have the reflexes for RTS or FPS.I'm just too slow for them and even though I can struggle and win a game or something at the end I don't feel accomplished , I just feel stressed.

So RPG an TBS are the way for me.

No worries, like I said , I went cold turkey for a while before an exam and since then , games don't stick to me anymore - we're like water and oil.

Hey - I was just about to buy WOW when I noticed you can only pay by credit card.
Is PayPal not an option or is there some other way ?
I don't want to give my credit card numbers away on a monthly basis :(
Any ideas, people ?

I'll just toss this in although its been stated already.

Give Rift a try, theres no extra exspansions (At least not yet) and the last beta event is an open beta which starts on the 15'th, meaning you can sign up and try the game out for free without having to buy anything.

True but most of these newer MMORPG games try to emulate WoW and few are original.
The few that are free require micro-transactions so you can get a competitive edge , so the formula is the same - and if it is the same , then I prefer the original.

That is true (But we can have a long looong discussion about which MMO's WoW copied ^^ )

But I personally feel that Rift is better than WoW since it feels a lot mor dynamic and fluid, so yes its simmilar but unique enough to stand on its own merits.

Beta starts in 2½ hours, the game itself is not free but the beta is of course, just thought it would be a good oportunity to try a good MMO before you have to pony of the cash ;)
