Should Mirrors Edge 2 be made?

No. No sequels, no prequels. If anything, they should make the first game again, only this time make it not suck. Fix the trial-and-error fall-off-the-same-building-eighty-times gameplay, ax the done-to-death "somebody framed my sister" plot, make Faith an actual character rather than a "bad girl" stereotype, get rid of the legions of magical teleporting cops who are instantly all over your ass the moment you step out your front door, and for the love of all that is good and pure, fire the guy who thought those Esurance-commercial cutscenes were the way to go.

Yes. Much like Assassin's Creed, they had to get the free-running system in place and working before they could make the game proper, so you should consider both games to be the prototypes. Now it's up and running (Get it? Running? As in... nevermind), they can make some great games with the systems.

Loved the game. A real memorable experience.

But no sequel, please. That would be like making a fifth season of Prison Break. As great as the show is/was, they should've wrapped it up just before season 3.

Mirror's Edge was very fun to play when you first picked it up, it was gorgeous, and the concept of free-running was fun. But it was also repetitive, the controls were a bold (if not unorthodox) change to the standard, and they pretty much painted a swath of red for you to follow.
The story, in my mind, was pretty predictable after the sniper killed the wrestler (Forget his name), and it was a short one.
Despite all that, I think Mirror's Edge deserves another chance. They just have to expand the ground, and get a professional writer. :D
EDIT: They should probably also get rid of the pipes. They completely broke the flow of free-running.

I guess a sequel for the game would be good. The only problem I can see with it is Mirrors Edge ported on the wii, the console would just explode trying to perfect its visuals.

THey should ax the franchise and or atleast explain more of the plot, like why the GOvernment is evil
Did you miss the whole "Police state, surveillance, murdering political rivals" thing?

How does one perfect the genre of Mirrors Edge?

To me it seems like one of those games that just doesn't work.
Can't judge an entire genre on the first entry in it. All innovations are going to be a bit rough around the edges first. With refinement, there's no telling what we could get.

Was it a perfect game? No.

Did it have deep flaws that, for many, ruined the experience? Yes.

Should it be developed and improved upon? Absolutely.

There are as many things to like about ME as there are to dislike. I'm shocked however, to see so many categorical 'no's on this thread. The experience, when it works, is fantastic, even breathtaking - the concept itself is great. If the developers can learn from their mistakes and go at it again - using the time they spent before on prototyping and testing to, instead, create a better and longer experience, they could come up with seriously great games for the franchise.
Agreed, especially on the whole "great when it worked" thing. I mean, I had been having a decent time for a while, but was sort of on the fence. Then, I got to that part in the second to last chapter, where you have to climb up to where the sniper rifle was, and I was floored by how stunning it was. More sections like that could make the game amazing.

I liked Mirror's Edge, my main beef with it was that it was too short. I didn't mind the combat/plot/cutscenes/other things that people didn't like about it.

I thought it was generally one of the most fun games I've played in my lifetime. Not as fun as tag with fat kids, but what is?

I suppose I might be biased though, as I became interested in the game because I was already free-running long before they announced it.

I enjoyed the first person free idea of the game and itnever bothered me, I happily look forward to a possible sequel.

That'd be like making a sequel to Tetris, it's a fun distraction but not deep enough to require a sequel, maybe just more levels added in by patches or something.

I played the first one, a second would be too samey.

They'd have to re-invent their whole scheme baby.

I think they should use the same concept put in a story that makes sense and fix up a a lot of bugs, maybe a free roam world and then just call it a spiritual successor.

I don't get where all this clumsy controls and stuff is coming from(I have ps3 version, maybe it's the 360 controller), and the story was short not bad, but you have to read a lot into it, like I think I'm the only one that figured out Jack knife is probably faith's ex, and if you read the elevator rides you know a lot more about the world, the government basically just controls almost everything, it's not so much evil as reducing our freedom in the name of safety and runners are the only ones keeping the opposition to the government running, the story trailers online help too and the world is just amazing, if you say it's a bad one you just don't know enough about it, the main plot though was a little weak, as for the running it's about as linear as sonic, you know where you need to go but you have different paths which can be used to avoid getting shot, or to go faster, or easier, as for the combat, it could use some work but it's pretty good, I love killing the pacts of the taser cops who can chase you over buildings (yes it's possible)

anyways to answer the question of course they should make a sequel, just do a more in depth story, and no prequels, the comics have that covered, combat system could use some more moves, but it by no means need to be redone or overhauled and still no idea where the clumsy controls are coming from...

I think they should just add on a free-roam aspect to the game, for me the story wasn't deep enough, it was just something to distract me from the fact that all I was doing was running around on the top of skyscrapers.

Yes.
And they will make one. We never even met the mayor.
He was like the main bad-guy.

I've just thought up an awesome idea for Mirror's Edge 2. Borrow a page from Valve's playbook. Make it co-operative like Left 4 Dead.

Think about it, remember the cut scene at the start where you have a few runners on the go at once, with a mid-air package pass? Have stuff like that, 3-4 players play at once, and they pretty much have an open world city in which to get a package from A to B. They'd have to use tactics like splitting up to draw pursuit off the runner with the bag, try to make the switches out of sight so when the cops catch hold of them again they aren't sure who has it, etc.

That being said, I still like Mirror's Edge, if they make a sequel with the same game mechanics then I'd like that, so long as they made it longer and the story didn't suffer.

I think the reason some people didn't like the story is that it utilizes a different writing style than the norm in videogames. It's actually written much more like a book, with a continental/European approach, relying more on dropping hints and having you work it out yourself rather than just linearly tell you the story as you go.

Yes, it was a good game but too short. I would like to see an extra free free-run mode, where you just have to get from A to B and deliver packages. No one way system, but open rooftops.
