For some unexplained reason the government is totally evil, man! And there are a bunch of people who run around delivering messages.
The government is evil because they try to control the citizens by monitoring them all the time. The bunch of people that run around try to deliver messages to those that wanna learn about their family/ friends etc. They already give that away in the trailers...

And, as far as I know, they already stated that they are working on another game. ME will be a trilogy apparently. I'm glad, to be honest.
The government isn't evil, they never said evil, the government is taking away freedom in the name of safety, nothing is private they monitor everything, messages that the runners deliver are the only things that aren't monitored, on one of the elevator rides it says that an unofficial poll revealed that half the city have used them to deliver something atleast once, so even normal ppl just wanting to send a private message use runners

THey should ax the franchise and or atleast explain more of the plot, like why the GOvernment is evil
Obviously, the government is evil because they keep everything clean, safe, and don't like runners delivering contraband goods.

On topic: I didn't think much of Mirror's Edge. For all its visual wizardry, it wasn't a very deep game. It was highly repetitive, with minimal AI and a run of the mill "dystopian future" story.
I don't get the highly repetitive thing, saying mirror's edge is repetitive is like saying every shooter every made is repetitive because you just shoot things, and the world they created was way better then the main story, but you had to really read a lot into it, I really don't get where this repetitive thing is coming from

The government is evil because they monitor everything you do, you deliver messages between rebel groups. The government murders a potential mayor candidate because he wants to give people back their personal freedoms. Pay attention to the plot and you might learn something.

Yes, Mirrors Edge was at least unique.
These are correct, so I won't repeat them. A sequel should be made.
[sup](but I'd much rather they re-made battlefield 2142 Properly- for the PC primarily.)[/sup]

They should make a sequal which would be a game that happened before the first one explaining why the government is corrupted and whatnot.

Or whatever, I just like running around and dis arming people. It was fun.

I wanted to put this in as simply as as possible but decided I needed to emphasise what most of my fellow posters were trying to say FOR THE GOOD OF GAMERS AND THE WORLD IN GENERAL :

I've just thought up an awesome idea for Mirror's Edge 2. Borrow a page from Valve's playbook. Make it co-operative like Left 4 Dead.

Think about it, remember the cut scene at the start where you have a few runners on the go at once, with a mid-air package pass? Have stuff like that, 3-4 players play at once, and they pretty much have an open world city in which to get a package from A to B. They'd have to use tactics like splitting up to draw pursuit off the runner with the bag, try to make the switches out of sight so when the cops catch hold of them again they aren't sure who has it, etc.

That being said, I still like Mirror's Edge, if they make a sequel with the same game mechanics then I'd like that, so long as they made it longer and the story didn't suffer.

I think the reason some people didn't like the story is that it utilizes a different writing style than the norm in videogames. It's actually written much more like a book, with a continental/European approach, relying more on dropping hints and having you work it out yourself rather than just linearly tell you the story as you go.
This is a good idea, i know i'd play it, as long as you didn't HAVE to play co-op, like the bots would be Smart enough to help you out

I belive it should be given a seconde chance.

Im not a fan of the story but the game play was good, very different and I belive they can get some thing spectacular if they are given a second chance.

I thought mirro's edge was awful. Horrible controls and platforming, I liked the idea of a first person platformer and I think they should try again but hopefully make it good.
This. Not a sequel, but another try at doing it right.

Lets explain this for the particularly thick people who don't understand a story unless it prominantly displays boobs, power armor, or a romance sub-plot.

In the Mirror's Edge world a totalitarian government has taken control of most aspects of peoples lives with invasive surveillance. Why is the government evil? Why did Saddam Hussein test mustard gas on his own villages? Because he could, because he had the power to and it wasn't like anyone could stop him. Also see: Dick Cheney.

Because of this, a rebellion would be impossible because communication is monitored. Because of this rebel groups employ runners to deliver physical messages back and forth. In the game the favored candidate for mayor, Robert Pope is murdered by the government because of popes promises to cut down on the surveillance and give personal freedoms back to the people. He also planned to shut down a secret facility that was being used to create "Project Icarus."

Project Icarus is a specialized training for agents to specificly take down Runners like Faith and Celeste. Well, Pope dies and the government makes it look like Faith's sister kills pope. Over the course of the game you have to save your sister and unwind the mystery of Project Icarus.

Gasp, paying attention to the game actually gives you information. I would bet half of the people who complain about the story are Yahtzee fans who think they can be cool by being a parrot and repeating everything he says.

It IS possible to be a Yahtzee fan and have your own opinion, I promise, it doesn't make the videos any less funny.

On another note? I do have a problem with Mirror's Edge, they committed the sin of a cliffhanger ending. Which is one of the biggest "Fuck You"'s a game company can give its playerbase.

"Oh yeah, pay us fifty more dollars to see the real ending!"

It's not really a cliff hanger ending, well not that big of one as far as cliff hanger ending go anything, it's not that much is unanswered, it's just more of a what now thing, you want more but it's not like anything specific is unanswered
-Faith and Kate run to Drakes hide out and lay low
-Jackknife fell to his death
-Merc is dead
-runners are being targeted, city stepping up on police force and monitoring
-Celeste ran away and is alive somewhere, probably going to keep doing the dirty work
-No1 suspects Miller and he's now your man on the inside
and it's not really a rebel thing as trying form an opposition party

The story wasn't hard to understand, it was just shit.

Also, I don't know if we're allowed to swear here, I'm a tiny bit new.

I don't know. What little story there was was wrapped up by the end, and the whole point of the game was innovation, which means that a sequel would distill the essence of the game.
I thought that Mirror's Edge was underrated and actually quite good, but even I think that a second game wouldn't work.

Yes, I loved it and thought it was quite good. Over way too soon, though.
This I can agree with.

And I guess the story with the opressive government struck a chord in me as a Dane. The all to streamlined society where all information is controlled is too much like the one the Danish politicians are trying to create, so something about the idea of runners just worked for me. I didn't need to know why the government was evil, if indeed it is. Though I think any government that tries to control information is inherently evil. (Fuck you IPRED and Danish logging directives :p.) Just the control of information is enough to make me want to fight it.
But I guess that says more about me than the story itself. It just worked like a charm for me.
The city in Mirror's Edge was a nightmarish scenario for me as a lefty who adores anything that is different, ugly, strange and not normal. So I was ready to strap on the shoes from the first time I saw a preview of the game. And I still am. Fight the system! :p

Edit: Oh, and I completely forgot surveillance! I fucking hate that stuff! If anything can get me mad as hell it's prevention of free information and suceillance. Again, as a Dane it really strikes close to home. Morons want CCTV on the streets? I feel like crying.

Definitely a type of game I would love to see more of. If they have a second shot, I think they could get it right.

I loved Mirror's Edge. I never noticed any lousy controls or any other annoyances (PC version). So i will buy it if they make it.
Agreed. The PC version was so much better than the console one.
