OT: Get off your high-horse PSN users, first you blindly accuse Anon of depriving you of your 10th prestige lobbies, then when Sony admits to shutting down PSN [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/22/update-on-playstation-network-qriocity-services/] you kept the accusations flowing.
First line of that post includes the phrase "External Intrusion".

I wonder what that could mean?

since the PSN is down, doesn't that mean there's no hour long system updates for a while? cause if so, that's reward in itself! XD

I kid I kid... <3 ps3

The only compensation I want is that the PSN gets brought back up. Which is what they're working on. Those with the PS+ or PSN+, whatever it's called, are the ones entitled to compensation, since they ARE paying for the service.

Not to say I wouldn't mind some form of it, I just won't see any (most likely) since I don't ave a PS+ subscription.

Your reward is that you still don't have to pay for PSN.
I'd be pissed if XBL went down for more than a day or so.

We *do* pay for the service- with all the multiplayer games we bought. They require the PSN, and that functionality is why we bought them- now they are not capable of doing what we, as consumers, expected them to do.

Now, do I think we deserve some consideration? Yes, but not because of the outage itself- because Sony took so long to fucking talk to us, to at least let us know how serious it was. They knew what the problem was from the beginning- as they shut it down themselves, if I recall- and basically said "Soz, guys- place is totally down". Nothing else, and even that took a while.

We haven't lost anything except time, but as consumers we deserve at least a little more respect from them. All I want is proof that Sony gives a shit about us.

PS+ and DCUO aren't free, whould you want some compensation if you were in the pub club and the escapist went down?
I was in the Publisher's Club and there were several times when I was unable to access the Escapist, such as on some Wednesdays when traffic is heavy and the Escapist is either slow or not working right. And you know what I got for it? Nothing. It's really not that big of a deal. Just play something offline if you must play your PS3 or bring a friend over and do split screen.

Dude, you already get it for free.
Yeah, I totally didn't have to buy a $600 system to gain access to it. You can't really use the, "dude it's free", logic here when that was one of their selling points when they first released the PS3.

Not that I'm really upset, just pointing out your flawed logic.

Them working harder to not let it happen again is all the compensation I want, and it's almost more than I deserve anyway considering the fact that the service is free. Also, every minute PSN is down is a minute that people aren't spending buying things from the store, so they're already losing money because of this debacle. The only people who'd deserve any kind of extra compensation are the people with Playstation Plus, who should at least get a few extra days free to make up for the time they lost.

It was valve! To make all the desperate ps3 owners play portal 2 on PC!

>.>

Anyway, this is the reason why the console network infrastructure sucks for ALL consoles (in the good ol' name of keeping us, the consumer cattle, all penned in). If it goes down you get nothing online at all. PC networks are spread across a vast number of different servers, so one going down will at worst only affect the online games of that publisher (like EA). It's why i think steam should act as a separate network within consoles, so at least the network going down doesn't affect things too much if games are split between the two.

but the system doesn't have to be used online, so buying the system doesn't really work either.

But it was a selling point. There'd really be no reason to complain about it if you're not PSN+, but I remember seeing it mentioned in an ad, on the box, or on a physical ad. I can't remember which since it's been a while.

Rewarded for what? Its an outage, it happens, shouldn't get you anything.

I have to deal with my internet going out all the time, but you don't see me demanding compensation. Well, except more stable internet, but nobody's selling that around here.
Totally off-topic, but did you see the last episode of Archer? Poor Stirling!

OT: No.

You don't pay for it (unless you pay for PSN+, in which case you're an idiot) so there's no monetary value lost.

Nope. PSN is free, so you didn't pay money for a service you are being denied access to. Sony doesn't owe its customers anything but apologies, and since it is Sony, that's all their customers will get.

Part marks. Xbox Live GOLD is paid for. Xbox Live in general is free for anyone. Gold is comparable PSN Plus.
That's why only Xbox Live Gold members deserve some kind of reimbursement if Xbox Live goes down on such a massive scale as PSN has.

...Wait, did you just say that Gold is comparable to PS+?

The only similarity between them is that you pay to access them. Beyond that, they're extremely different. Different enough that PS+ members don't deserve compensation for this outage either. All PS+ does is give you discounts on the Playstation Store, update your console when you're not around to do it yourself, and use the cloud for saves. Accessing the Playstation Store is a basic free feature for everyone, so you aren't losing anything other people don't have there. Firmware and game updates are a basic free feature for everyone, so you aren't losing anything other people don't have there either. And the cloud; it's free users who should be compensated there as the cloud should be for everyone (that or Sony should take away bullshit copy protection on saves so that free people can back up ALL of their saves and be able to restore them to a new console if needed). But anyway, the cloud is just one of multiple ways to back up save games, so because you aren't completely barred from backing up your saves while PSN is down, no compensation is needed for that either.

DCUO players do deserve some kind of compensation though. They're paying a fee to access a game that they can no longer access. As for your Pub Club comparison, no I would not want some compensation if The Escapist went down. Pub Club is like PS+ (except Pub Club is a good deal and PS+ is not); it's just bonus features on top of the basic service. Example, the site goes down; I can't watch videos in high def with no ads, but nobody can watch any videos anyway. I lost the same thing as free members; why should I be compensated? Same with PS+: you can't access the store, but neither can all the free guys.

When they remove Playstation Network as a feature, then this is an argument that will get you somewhere. But right now it's just down.
Oh, and if Sony ever did take away PSN, don't expect much to happen in your favor. Look at the poor guys who bought it for Install Other OS which was also a selling point. Sony took that away and they are all screwed.

the fact that it says "playable online" isn't a selling point since 2005 (unless your a non gamer and you don't know that more things other than email can be done online)

S*** happens. You can't honestly expect compensation from a free service simply because they are out for a couple days. It would be the same for xbox live.
