I quoted "his puppy obedience school with an unusually large security detail" line to some friends recently in an RP to point out that they didn't actually know what they would be attacking. I've used the term "pants on head" more than once, though I leave off "retarded" for my own reasons.

After that anthro-archaeology class, sadly, yes.*

I'll confess to appropriating "pants-on-head retarded" for ironic purposes, but beyond that I don't think I quip Yahtzee-isms out of their context from here.

Yahtzee doesn't normally post on these forums.
And this isn't about Yahtzee, its about how he affects our vocabulary.

Haha, I told someone to "floss themselves to death with barbed wire" once

Me and my boyfriend keep quoting his videos because we're pretty sad like that, but at least it's bringing us together, so well done Yahtzee! ^-^

The only reason I even learned of the reviews was because a friend of mine sent me a link to the Call of Duty 4 one and said it sounded like me when I'm in a bad mood.
I try to avoid quoting him, mainly because it gets really fucking annoying after the tenth time you've heard some random person say something from a review. It takes the humor out of it for me. That's also why I avoid most forum topics about things like this.

I'll put myself down as yet another person using "pants-on-head retarded" as an insult. I also swear I've heard it before him, but maybe that's just my imagination. I don't really care, I'm not going to go out and completely copy his mannerisms and catch phrases just because I want to be "cool". I'm just happy I don't have many friends who also watch The Escapist, because I don't want accusations of "copying" when I wear my fedora - I've owned it for 3 and a bit years dammit, I came first!

On a side (and kind of creepy) note, when I saw pictures of him for the first time, I swore I'd seen him before. Then I later read he lives/lived in Brisbane (where I reside), so it's semi-possible.

I find it weird that people think of Yahtzee as the be and all and end all of (web based) humour. Admittedly, he is very clever and inventive, but he's certainly not the first, although he may be a pioneer (can't imagine how he'd feel about that).

I've noticed the influence of Yahtzee in a lot of the written work here I've seen so far, although I will admit that perhaps I'm just looking for it because I'm browsing the same forum that hosts the videos. And then to get called out on it when you use it so close to home shouldn't really surprise anyone ("I recognize that Yahtzee said something like that in a ZP", "I like that Yahtzee/ZP reference", "You kind of sound a bit like Yahtzee there"). I will say that it could be a bit bothersome when you try to develop a niche voice as an author, and your works automatically get compared to the roaring echo of Yahtzee's disciples just because of proximity. But it's for the most part harmless outside of the escapist so long as it's not relentless to the fact that you owe your persona to Yahtzee only to get called out on it later on down the line.

I'll end by saying that I've been a cynical misanthrope for years before ZP even began, and there are cyncial misanthropes everywhere who have no idea what ZP or Yahtzee is. Don't stop treating Yahtzee like a God, but I'd appreciate if you'd stop writing every one off as pretender if they bare even a slight semblance to his style.

I am the only person I know who watches Yahtzee's reviews (not counting me forcing my friend to watch them, but he enjoys them also) I can't really quote him to much without my friend yelling at me to "think of your own jokes!" which I probably should do but there's nothing wrong with quoting Yahtzee after your friends brother decides to jump off the bed and land on his face on the ground right?

But I am alone and have never met someone else who's watch a Yahtzee video.

I do as a kind of inside joke.

"Go Team Retard!"
"Stonking Great"
"He didn't inherit his predecessors MASSIVE BALLS"*
"Mumohpurger"
And a couple others I can't think of.

My fav' is "retard Mc spacky paint's" and "we're not gay, we wear paints" from de-rez.

Whoa. Holy bad timing, Batman. [http://www.cbc.ca/arts/film/story/2008/08/04/freeman-hospital.html] Though it looks like things will turn out alright.

yeah, his style is a lot like charlie brooker, who was also at one point a games journalist.
maybe it's games that do it?
i mean, anthrophomorphic blue hedgehogs, a crossbow that can shoot squirrels (oddworld stranger), a ponytailed youth sporting the name guybrush threepwood.
everything yahtzee says could in fact be a new and possibly amazing game concept!
Devs take note!

I've used "pants-on-head retarded" a few times in one of my stories, and my friend quotes his Guitar Hero 2 saying "You either a freak or have a trained tarantula"

We hear most of his comments around school before they're on the web. I mean, "retard Mc.Spakypants" was around in year 7.

Higher level things, like 'Jaded mislanthrope' aren't heard in day to day banter, though.

Worshipped by all of us for his comedic approach to what is, as often as not, a paid endorsement*.
I was wondering how many people here start using the phrases, and terms from Yahtzee's reviews in everyday life, and if anybody finds it offensive that you speak like that?
Is Zero Punctuation slipping into your reality?

I, for example often hear IT students on campus use the term "Pants-On-Head Retarded" when they have to provide assistance anyone who 'broke' windows, or "Indigo Prophecy syndrome" when Windows crashes for no apparent reason.

*By paid endorsement I meant other magazines and sites, not The Escapist.
I've always used long winding metaphors in my speech but as of late I'm being accused of sounding like Yahtzee. Being English doesn't help either.

You should realize though that Yahtzee sounds like Charlie Brooker, who in turn sounds a lot like Douglas Adams, who in turn sounds like...
Do many people outside of the UK know about Charlie Brooker (of who I am a bit of a fanboy).

They learned quick after he wrote that article asking someone to shoot George Bush.
