Silent Hill Movie Sequel Getting Made Despite Hate Mail

The Silent Hill movie is getting a sequel, regardless of what gamers have to say about it.

The Silent Hill [http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-Widescreen-Radha-Mitchell/dp/B000GCFO0I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1278514802&sr=1-1] movie is pretty divisive; critics hated it, but movie-goers seemed to enjoy it a great deal, so much so that a sequel was green lit. That sequel is now ready to start shooting, and producer Don Carmody said that it's getting made whether gamers like it or not.

"We have always been cognizant of that -- we can't make the movies just for gamers," Carmody said. "Of course, we always run the risk of incurring the wrath of the gamers -- who are very vocal. I did Silent Hill and we are planning a Silent Hill 2 -- we were getting hate mail for that one."

Carmody does have a point, as popular as gaming is; it's too small an audience for a big Hollywood blockbuster. When millions of dollars are at stake, making the film appeal to a wider audience is vital, and while we might not like the idea, it's not about to change any time soon.

You know what else is a small audience?

Terrorist groups.

Still feeling like disobeying us?

[sub]I am sorry if someone was offended, this was only a joke. Although I am quite annoyed at the making of this film[/sub]

as far as game to movie conversions go, this was one of the better ones.
but being better than the nonsense that the street fighter, mortal kombat, mario bros, resident evil or alone in the dark movies (among others) is not hard.

Well they are making a movie adaption of a video game so yes they should care what we think as we actually played the games and know how the movie should be and not how the directors seem to think it should be.

That's a bit on the dogmatic side, isn't it?
The failure of the original film wasn't that it deviated from the original formula; it was how it failed to add anything new to the established mythos.

Well considering only gamers know anything about Silent Hill, yeah, you have to make a movie for the gamers, fucking dumb ass hollywood, also I watched the first movie, couple things they fucked up on, Harry Mason wasn't in it, it failed right there, also as nice as it was to see Pyramid Head they should have kept him out till the second movie, he's like the big star of the show, so what are they gonna do in the second one to make the girls scream, probably nothing, and I swear they better put fucking James god damn Sunderland in the second movie!!

To be honest most "gamers" are loud-mouthed idiots that don't even understand exactly what they are moaning about. "Fans", however, are by far the worst of the bunch. I'm not going to go into detail, because that area has already been covered by Destructoid.

Needless to say these movie execs should go ahead and make the film - what exactly do these "gamers" want anyway - I'm near certain they don't know themselves; they just want to moan about something, because of course they know more about what makes a good game film than those that create films for a living...

While the first one wasn't a particularly good Silent Hill movie, I do think it was a pretty good horror movie (actually, comparing it to other horror movies, it was more than just pretty good) - while admitting this may get me spat on; I've been hoping they'd go for a sequel.

Well, atleast he's honest about screwing it up for sake of mass market appeal.

Meh, I kinda liked the first one but obviously it wasn't better than the game, I don't think anybody expected it to be.
Anyway what does that mean, making it appeal to a wider audience? If they're remaking Silent Hill 2 they ought to keep it exactly the way it is before they screw the story up like the end of the first one. Does making it more appealing mean adding more women into it? Maria is enough, thank you very much.

If there is more Pyramid Head, I approve.

Well, minus the raping. I could do without him doing that...

The movie was "okay", not one I'd pop in just as background noise like Resident Evil (seriously, I love watching that with Mila and Michele's commentary on), but I wasn't expecting much out of the movie to begin with...

OMG it wasn't even like the game they better not make another film because I obviously don't have the choice of not watching it.

The first Silent Hill film was very awesome and I more than welcome a second.

Well it is a little dogmatic and while yes they do have to add bits and change bits I understand it cannot be the same just look at Harry Potter and LoTR but the essense of it needs to be the same which I think they have mostly failed to do in video game to movie adaptions.

The fact that games and movies are such completely different media to begin with I really don't think they should mix as it is too hard to get it right well get it right using game characters. If they want to take the universe of say Resident Evil or any game and make a movie on it with all of their own characters and slant on it but keeping the lore the same I think it would work out better.
