I loved the movie.
The only ones who hated it are those who didn't get it.

I.e. the nongamers.
I am a gamer, and I hated the movie. It was bloody awful.
I can only hope they don't shoe-horn more irrelevant SH characters into this movie without bastardising it.

I really enjoyed this movie but I am not so happy that they are making a sequel.

I think that they pulled out a lot of big guns with this movie and I do not see how they could top or equal it.

I mean, how can you top the location? The whole town with the underground fires, I thought that was great. Plus pyramid head. How can you top him?

No, No, No, No, No. The first one was stupid and treated the audience the same, if you're going to make a Silent Hill movie make it original, follow the conventions of the game series, and adopt those elements. Don't try to copy the games, you'll only fail if you add monsters that have no meaning to the characters backstory. Also learn what the games are about, they're not about monsters from hell, it's more the monsters of our minds.

But knowing hollywood they won't even take these things into account.

[sub] Also you won't just get hate mail, I can assure you of that. [/sub]

How dare they make a move about a videogame and not have a HUD or everything made up of polygons! How dare it be better than the shit Uwe Bollocks puts out!

I personally don't give a shit. I mean, a movie that was a faithful recreation of a game? it would probably be pretty bad, most big games stories are pretty terrible anyway. And how annoying would it be just watching someone go get the three colour coded magical mugubbins? It's boring enough playing it.

I quite liked the Silent Hill movie. It stumbled with the plot (and dialogue...), but Christophe Gans did a great job showcasing the style and ideas of the series. I'm just worried that he's not going to be directing, and we're stuck with Roger Avary on writing duties (and, again, it was the writing that was the weakest part of the movie).

"as popular as gaming is; it's too small an audience for a big Hollywood blockbuster."

But the game industry is worth far more billions of dollars than either Hollywood or the Music industry...

They don;t have to make movies just for gamers. All they have to do is look at the video game and recreate it for the movie. Why did they make a female the main character in the film when a male was the main character in the game? Pyramid Head was never in the first game and therefore should have never been in the first movie.

It can't be that difficult to just make the movie be exactly like the game.

Well considering only gamers know anything about Silent Hill, yeah, you have to make a movie for the gamers, fucking dumb ass hollywood, also I watched the first movie, couple things they fucked up on, Harry Mason wasn't in it, it failed right there, also as nice as it was to see Pyramid Head they should have kept him out till the second movie, he's like the big star of the show, so what are they gonna do in the second one to make the girls scream, probably nothing, and I swear they better put fucking James god damn Sunderland in the second movie!!
Of all the things to complain about.... So you're saying they should just take the original stories and make them movies? That sounds really dumb to me, since why would I want to go watch something when I can actually play it. And I pray that they won't have James in the movie sequel, just make it something original.

As some others have pointed out, Silent Hill -movie wasn't that bad. Doesn't hold a candle to the original games, but for a videogame movie it was much better than I would have ever dared to hope for. I personally forgave the movie a lot of negatives because they used costumes for the monsters instead of some cheap and unappealing CG, which was really refreshing. It really made them look believable, but the movie could have used some darkness to make them actually scary.

I don't get what made the first movie "unaccessible" to movie goers, though. Some cared to explain this?
Well considering they put every character from 1 in it, yeah!

I liked the Silent Hill movie. Not much wrong with it as far as I could tell. I'm sure they raped the lore but I don't care, I've never played any Silent Hill games.

Well obviously I'm just one of the freaks who loves the silent hill games (especially the first 2) and enjoyed the film - shock horror! I think I just tore a hole in fabric of reality.

My only real problem with it was having pyramid head in it. He was done well but he's far more specific to silent hill 2 than some people seem to realise. Hopefully this new film will be even better than the original. Wonder if they will continue with the same characters or if it will be a different story?
As a person that spent a couple of years in a silent hill forum some might say that the misty day painting exists is proof that PH exists outside of james's conciensce. But hey, PH appears before James gets to the (i dont remember the name) where the painting is, yes but he saw it the previous time he and mary visited the town.

That's a theory i dont support or disagree to, is just what some might say. :)

No matter what you say, no matter what anyone says, Silent Hill is THE best Movie adaption of a game out there. FACT!

Now, while that sobering thought settles into our brains, I actually quite liked SH on its own grounds, and as a horror film found it vastly superior to most horror films of the past few years...[eyes "Nightmare on Elm Street" suspiciously]...
This. /thread. /bitching.

I thought Doom was a better Movie adaption than Silent Hill was tbh

OT: I quite liked the first Silent Hill as far as Game - Movie conversions go i would say Silent Hill is probably one of the best. I'm hoping the 2nd one will be good but i doubt it will be anything special, average at best just like the first.

It was a good adaptaion, but it did kill some of the aspects of the game. But hey, whatcha gonna do?
Personally, it will be good to see how they continue from the last film. will there be any story continuation? or will they move the entire scenario like the game homecoming did? imo, the Sheperds Glen thing didnt live up to the Origional Silent Hill Storyline.

You know what else is a small audience?

Terrorist groups.

Still feeling like disobeying us?

[sub]I am sorry if someone was offended, this was only a joke. Although I am quite annoyed at the making of this film[/sub]
I laughed.

I haven't seen the first Silent Hill-movie since I'm not a horror movie fan, but maybe I'll see it just for teh lulz.

Thats a good point, I should've said it was theory as opposed to fact. It's a pretty good theory in my opinion though.

That's the problem with talking about silent hill, it's pretty much all based around speculation and theories because it never really gets explained. But that's also one of the things I find so intriguing about the series as a whole.

Despite how bad it is likely to be I would still be intrested to see the premise at least
