Silent Hill movie wasn't that bad.

I liked it. The story was mediocre, the acting was cliched, and the parts that tried to be as clear as possible came across as contrived and ambiguous, but for a horror film it passes. Seriously, most horror movies do nothing for me at all, so I've come to expect very little of them. As a fan of the first 3 games, I have to say I rather enjoyed it. For everyone else I can see why you'd want your money back.

OT: I actually enjoyed the Silent Hill movie. I would watch it again. I would buy it, even. I thought it deviated from the movie juuuuust enough to be a fresh[er] experience. I can see why critics may have given it poor reviews, seeing as it was entirely fan fodder (Like any video game movie). Especially the end. No newbie would understand that.
I think it was because it wasnt scary in the least, more like a gory adventure in a slightly creepy place, and some of the actors weren't that great. I think some critics just lack imagination and when they see it's based on a game they automatically assume that it's terrible (Which is usually true) and don't even try to fill in the blanks because they assume that it's for the fans. My parents watched Max Payne and loved it and they were suprised when I told them that it was based-off a game.

[small]Fun fact:My distant relative produced Silent Hill (Don Carmody).[/small]

Pyramid head is just there for the fan service.
Correct.
Personally, I find continuity to be much more important than an appearance of everyone's favorite manifestation.

I mean, I find Harry Mason to be completely awesome, but you don't see me throwing him all over Silent Hill: Homecoming just to give the fans what they want.

[small]And on a side note: What the hell was up with what they pulled in Homecoming!?
Did they not take notes from the reception of the bloody movie...?[/small]
Yeah and what was with the combat? It was like one long quicktime event the whole way through.

As a movie, it's complete, unintelligible, shite. The dialog was genuinely painful in places.
Furthermore, am I the only one that thought Sean Bean's scenes were completely pointless?
They were a major flow-breaker, if there ever was one.

Although that paint-peeling effect (Also featured in Homecoming) was incredibly F$(^ing awesome.
Plus, think how much harder the fanboys would be raging if he turned up in the finale, knocked out Pyramid Head (that dirty Commie terrorist) with a single punch and saved everyone for a classic American Movie Finale, staring tearfully at the flag..
You read my copy of the script? ;D

As with the former points you gave notice to: I can agree with what you are saying. Although, it hasn't really changed my mind. While it is a valid excuse to give him screen time, it didn't necessarily work, atleast, not for that particular movie.

Nice an stylish but not overly so, a slow deliberate pace that built up rather than just jumping every ten minutes. I quite liked it. One of the best of the video game adaptation movies.
This in a nutshell. :)

I love silent hill games. Original to 4, each had their perks and weaknesses. Never played the psp version, and still haven't arsed myself to finish the most recent version. But for the most part, the movie wasn't a disapointment for me. It was Silent Hill. Sort of an integration of first and second game elements. Did Pyramid Head really belong in the movie? Not really. He's there more as an icon of the Silent Hill staple (unlike other SH games that have him making cameos-- they have no excuse for milking Pyramid Heads' fame).

Probably one of the best Video game movies I've seen. I used to think Mortal Kombat (1) wasn't bad for a game based movie. Save for the soundtrack, that spot got trumped my Silent Hill (movie). :) Yay.

When I first saw it, it was before I had played the games and I thought it was really confusing. After playing the games I appreciated it a lot more, so I can definitely see how it was so in-accessible to the general public. It was great for a game-movie, although the bar hasn't exactly been set very high for the genre.

I'm definitely looking forward to the second movie.

Having never played the game (I know right) I can honestly say I did enjoy the film. It wasn't Shakespeare or anything but It still had a cool setting, great production value, and some fun scare moments. Better than 80% of what Hollywood shits out nowadays. I give it a B.

It might have been one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I even tried to get out of my own head, and just watch it on its own premises. I think it's amazingly bad. As a videogame movie it fails even more. And if you think Pyramid Head belonged in the movie, you missed the point of Pyramid Head entirely to begin with. :/

I'm sorry, but just thinking about that crapfest gives me foam around the mouth.. :/
look everyone!!! its a troll!!! :D
wait how is it a troll. he just disagreed with you and i think he had valid points.
yep, not a troll. I haven't seen the movie but I'm pretty sure they had no idea what pyramid head really stood for. Unless the the main girl in the movie had rape fantasies Im pretty sure he doesn't belong. Neither did the nurses.

Slightly correct. Pyramid Head was a manifestation of James' desire for punishment. Pyramid Head mocked him with his raping of the Mannequins, and several killings (which I will remain silent about, for spoiler reasons). Many of the monsters of Silent Hill 2 were meant to represent James' sexual frustration and anxiety since his wife died. The vast majority, if not all, of that game was symbolic of James' feelings towards Mary, and the inner workings of the supporting characters' thoughts and emotions.

OT: I actually enjoyed the Silent Hill movie. I would watch it again. I would buy it, even. I thought it deviated from the movie juuuuust enough to be a fresh[er] experience. Basically what i meant just about a hundred times better than mine.

I only ever played SH1, and it really freaked the, er, SH1T out of me (lol).

I appreciated the movie of SH in its own merits. Sure, it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece, but it was fairly solid, without any glaring plotholes that I spotted
tortured kid, turns evil for revenge after being horribly mutilated, traps all that tormented her in a dreamworld, has nightmares come to life.
, and some appropriatly horrifying violence.
the main 'bad' female raped to death by rusty barbed wire... yowch

my suspension of disbelief has absorbed much heavier stuff than that.

No, it's not that bad, but it did not seem to be going the right direction as far as the game was concerned. Rather then having the sort of the mournful atmosphere of the game (or at least Silent Hill 2) it decided to be kind of loud and exciting. (At least compared to the games.)

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it felt creepy enough for a silent hill movie

I approve
especially the part in the end
when the little girl, the embodiment of all the evil in the town, wins
can someone say bad ending

A lot of critics gave this movie very bad reviews, and i was like, "what the hell!?". I can understand this now cause these critics never played the games and couldn't relate to them.
Then how do you account for people like me, who has played the games, and still thought it was a bad movie?
I believe the term is "TROLL!!!!!" :D

I liked both the games and the movies. I just and try to forget about the games for 2 hours. Then again give me a creative death scene (like the barb wire or lasers from RE) and you got both my thumbs up.

I corrected a grammar mistake on a mod! :D [small]I'm sorry, please don't kill me o' powerful one.[/small]

OP:I love SH2 but I thought the movie was meh. The only gripe that I don't give credence to is 'It doesn't tie in with the story.' it doesn't have to, it's an adaptation.

Silent Hill is my favourite series.
And yet, I thought the movie was good. Not NEARLY as good as the games, but it was a fairly solid movie.
