I based my Saints Row IV boss off Michael Clarke Duncan's version of Kingpin from the Daredevil movie because I'd recently watched Jim do a Movie Defence Force of it. He was a really cool character, but imagine my annoyance right after making him to find they already had a character in the game (Ben King) who's not only based off Michael Clarke Duncan but was originally voiced by him!
I like to play people with really funky or cool shirts. Double bonus points if they are unbuttoned, revealing an interesting t-shirt. I like to think they have appreciable taste and reward them by sending them out to their glorious, heroic deaths.
A large part of why I continued to play nothing but a sniper in Firefall was because I became, and still am, pointlessly enamoured with the idea of (role)playing a business-minded sharpshooter in that world. One who calls her shots based as much on tactical considerations as financial ones. Specifically the image of her comfortably perched up on some stadium lights outside Sunken Harbor city in her state-of-the-art Raptor frame, overlooking a battle in the distance while her market contact is on voice comms.
"... I don't care how low you have to drop prices Aero, get rid of those chitin stocks now! We're up to our necks in aranhas here, that market is about to collapse!"
"..."
"Of course we'll live, don't be so pessimistic. By the way, what are varant horns going for these days?"
"..."
"Really now?" *boom* "Twenty thousand~" *boom* "Forty thousand~" *boom* "Sixty thousand~"
The game doesn't even work like that so your guess is as good as mine as to why I bothered then. >_> Oh Firefall, if only you had lived up to your potential at all...
Purely because of his voice. A lot of the alien racers have crazy or 'thuggish' sounding voices speaking guttural Huttese, but lanky Ody is perhaps the craziest-sounding of them all. He would often let out this ludicrous maniacal scream when his Podracer was struck by something, and shouting 'KABOOOOM!' followed by insane laughter when his Pod explodes! Either he knows that he's going to respawn, or he is the Star Wars equivalent of the Joker, a character analog I don't believe they've done yet. Perhaps, a 'Darth Wahnsinn'?
Sadly, his stats suck and his Pod is rather generic-looking. I would later graduate to the vertically challenged Neva Kee, who also has a crazy cackle and high-pitched voice worthy of a gremlin, but also a cool Pod and great stats.
Always selecting Wario in Mario Party to be played by the AI, because we just couldn't get enough of 'D'oh I MISSED!'.
OT: I often make a Scoundrel in Knights of the Old Republic because I want to make a Malcolm Reynolds-like character. Then I remember that trying to play that game with a blaster is an exercise in futility and frustration.
My main character in World of Warcraft has always been a warlock because I love the idea of summoning and controlling demons while having the power of hellfire and the Nether at my fingertips. But I initially made it because my first time seeing the game was watching my brother play as a warlock with his blueberry [https://warlockery.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/voidwalker-with-shadow-shield.jpg] following him around everywhere.
I had Zigzagoon in my team in Pokemon Y for a long time, because of its cute attack animation. Loved it the first time I saw it in Pokemon Colosseum, I still love it now.
Zigzagoon is just really cute. I like his updated cry.
I tend to gravitate towards things with headsprouterlike (it's a word) attributes and features. I got the Mako skin in Overwatch because from the front Roadhog ends up looking like an eyeless mouth monster. Shame he lost the hook, but since it's pirate themed I can't logically argue with giving him an anchor...
Another example is that my favourite Pokemon is Trapinch. It's a earth-dwelling ambusher with a big mouth so it's as close as you're gonna get in Pokemon.
It all stems from when I played Timesplitters: Future Perfect the first character I selected was Headsprouter and it has been hard to make me not use him ever since.
So if there's something that looks or behaves a bit like that [http://orig09.deviantart.net/169f/f/2014/214/d/e/so_fucking_high_res_by_headsprouter-d7tdb7s.jpg] chances are I'm going to try and use it. What can I say, the guy's cool looking to me.
