Well, i've been picking up on some of the controversy around the US's new health care reform bill (which is over 1000 pages in length) and let me tell you, some of this stuff i've been finding is downright moronic. For example, i've seen a lot of arguments about government "death panels" between various TV pundits, and it seems that they have all completely overlooked the fact that the bill in fact doesn't include anything about "death panels" it's simply not in the bill, yet the pundits continue to argue about it like it is. Do you find this silly, or otherwise just plain stupid, or do you know how i got it wrong and care to shed some light on this silliness?

It's the modern media. Almost everything about what they say is silly.

Problem of course is that you're probably watching US news pundits who aren't really pundits. They're just polemicists trying to stir up some controversy and attention.

It's not punditry you're seeing, it's basically $150 million dollars worth of propaganda that the HMOs have dumped into media to shout down the idea of the government taking a more active role in health care. That they've got that much money to spend on propaganda is about as much proof as you need that they're making money hand over fist, and are basically doing everything in their power to keep fleecing everyone.

Here's the reality [http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/countries/] of just what government health care means. It's not the bogeyman they're making it out to be. "Death Panels" are just one of many baldfaced lies they're propagating.

It's right wing media basically making things up in order to mess things up for the Obama administration.

To be honest, those two are probably more reliable news sources than CNN, MSNBC, or FOX.

Personally, I think it's just the right wing stirring stuff up. I laughed last night when the Daily Show implyed that they were trying to foment a civil war, but to be honest, after some of them went on the record stating that the only way for the America they love to come back is if we're attacked again, I wouldn't put it past them.

And the Congressional Democrats are no better; They have their hands in the healthcare industry every bit as much as the Republicans. Why do you think they wrote out the public option?

It's media.

Everyone in America is used to it. Our media people are just as cutthroat as everything else. *shrug* Those of us with brains do research and form out own opinions.

Thank you.
It's unfortunate but old people are easily made to feel insecure about their health and these so-called pundits (I don't consider idiots like Limbaugh and Glen Beck as pundits, they're salesman) are able to fool them into thinking that there are things in the bil that they should be afraid of even though there isn't.
These old people grew old watching Cronkite and other real reporters with integrity. So when they see some guy on tv and he's on a so-called "news" program, they just figure he's reporting.
So these retards like ORiley and that guy with the Jay Leno size head start spouting nonsense, some people actually take them seriously.

The Daily Show did a wonderful parody of the "death panels" bullshit yesterday. I've also been hearing a bunch of arguments about how healthcare systems like the ones in Canada are awful and people have to die because they're too old or whatever. I live in Canada, and the healthcare system is just fine. I don't know where these facts are coming from.

True, but I'm still not taking them seriously. And, no one realizes this, they basically ARE creating "death panels".
No. No they're not. The government is NOT going to create a board where they decide to euthanize any American who can't produce for the state. We're not going to execute 70-year olds, and kids with downs. Not in this administration, not in ANY administration. The mere thought of it is ludicrous. Do you have any idea how fast we'd rebel against that?

I want to know how you spin helping 50 million uninsured Americans to purging the weak and inferior.

Does anyone have word about wether or not assisted suicide is covered in the bill? (i think that was nancy grace that brought that 1 up) Or is that bullshit by the propaganda machine too?

The only thing related to that I know of in the bill is that with the (now dead) public option, consultation meetings with doctors about pulling the plug will be covered.

Is this FOX news again?

I laugh at some of the stuff on there.
I laugh at all the stuff there. Except for the ones where the facepalm is so strong i accidentally plant my palm too hard and then i get dazed for a few seconds before i start laughing.

I'm going to use the same point John Stewart used: It's 1000 pages! I'm not reading through all of that. No one is. They could of slipped it in there, somewhere.
Why, though? WHY would they put that in there? It would accomplish nothing, other than to be evil for evil's sake. The rumors about getting rid of medicare, or insurance companies as a whole are at least believable (yet still completely untrue), because at least congress would have a motive for doing that. But organizing death boards to purge anyone with a disability, just to piss people off? It's like something you'd expect from a comic book villain.

jimmy i think you need to break through you're bubble and realize that TV is not always telling the truth, politicians lie, people en masse are always stupid, fear is as powerful as respect, and the pictures at Dairy queen of ICE CREAM are actually SHORTENING so it doesn't melt during the shoot

[EDIT] in regard to the 1000 pages, i think jon stewert is in fact wrong then, because the politicians in american congress have a fucking RESPONSIBILITY to read the bill, and any reporters should also read the bill, and i guarantee you, that every person who is central to the forming and passing of this bill HAS read the bill

It took Obama six months to pick a dog.

Am I expected to believe he can make Universal Health Care work in three weeks?

No. That's why congress writes the laws.
