well first Id like to state that this quoted part of your little story is definitely NOT true.

From a plot perspective I did not find the main story line intruiging at all personally.

However, The Shivering Isles expansion was phenominal to me.

I have come to belive that when it comes to story for some reason Bethesda cant hit on their prime story arcs, but make up for it with side story, back story, and expansions. Sort of like a writer who can write good short stories, but turns their epic novels into a long droning steaming pile.

I don't even see why everybody is so in love with this game. It seemed pretty dull to me. I loved the assassin's quests, but after I was finished them I just couldn't think of what to do. I had just killed every interesting character in the game. The fact that levelling up was more of a hassle than a benefit just led to me never sleeping and it was far too easy for me to break everything. It might just have been that the game was over hyped so I expected more from it. Anybody else know where I'm coming from with this?

The main storyline is good to do once or twice, but isn't really anything special.

What you need to do is get the mods; they breathe well-needed life into the game, by turning it into whatever you want it to be, even adding extra chunks of land (I mean actual forests and cities) for you to run around in. The Oblivion community has a GIGANTIC modding scene.

I loved Oblivion when I first played it. However, after I did the main quest and every side quest I could find, the game got incredibly boring, as there was nothing to really do. The mods fixed that for me.

I forgot about the main story when I first played. I got out of the sewers, met the heir, and then I fucked off to do something else. I was level 37 when I realized there was a main storyline, and by then I was too busy finding a cure for vampirism to care.

I started the main quest line a couple characters in. I agree with you that the main story is quite bland, frankly I just ignore it. I think Oblivion's a great game because of everything you can do besides the linear main story.

Unless this is pointless sarcasm, I'm confused? The person sent numerous requests to microsoft in order to get my account banned (or so he said) and I told a bunch of his friends (who were mine as well) and got them pissed off at him. By "turned his friends against him" I didn't mean all his friends, just a good 10 or 11 of them...

I beat every quest in the entire game.

My favorite part was the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves guild. I remade characters over and over to beat those two guilds again and again and would then quit.

That said how can you call yourself a fan if you never beat the game? Lol.
Why shouldn't I? I enjoyed the games thoroughly and put many hours into them. The main quest just bored me, I'm still of a fan of - essentially - the game.

You can do as you please, but if someone were to walk up to me and go man I love Portal... I would expect them to understand where the song Still Alive comes from.

Should I finish the game? No,the main story is boring.

Did you finish the main plotline yourself? Yes, I did.

Is the ending worth the hours put in? No.

What were your thoughts on the Main storyline as a whole? It's boring, too linear and too average. It just wasn't that great.

Your argument is understandable, however flawed. A fan of Portal will have finished the game because it's approximately 3 hours long worth of linear puzzles. It would be impossible for them to get side - tracked. Oblivion on the other hand has numerous amounts of side quests, and the game is enjoyable JUST from that.

Another point is that, just because a person hadn't finished Portal, doesn't mean that said person shouldn't be allowed to be a fan.

EDIT: Also, I hope I don't come across as assertive, I was just stating a point.

You should beat the story once, but 99% of my playthroughs I do not complete the story. Morrowind had a better story though. Martin pissed me off.

You seem to have a negative opinion about the main plotline, I'm curious as to your opinion on the game as a whole.

Not at all my good sir. As I said, you can call yourself a fan if you like. To me a fan would have beaten the game, and wouldn't need a group of people to talk him into playing a game he is a fan of.

Actually, yes, your argument is flawed because I enjoy Portal and I haven't even beaten the game (at least, not legitimately). I know what Still Alive is, which only makes me like Portal more. A person does not have to finish a game to be a fan. In that case, nobody would ever be a fan of Civilization 4 or Simcity 4, and I think we all know how wrong that is.

1: Define 'finish'. I mean, it's like finishing a quest, except you get an 'ending'. You can just continue playing after it.
2: Yes... Once...
3: Not really. It sucks as much as the main plot.
4: It's horrid. One of the worst and most uninteresting plotlines I've ever come across.

What I like about Oblivion is the freedom to roam and do almost whatever you want to.
Also, modding. Some mods make you completely unable to even play vanilla Oblivion again.
They're THAT good.

Nowadays, when I pick up Oblivion, I just completely shun the main plot after I get out of the prison.
Which is immediately, as I always use a quickstart mod to completely skip it.

If you like oblivion you will enjoy Morrowind even more (if you can get past the older graphics).
And combat system. And bugs. And general clunkiness. But mainly the combat system.
