I'm not even buying Modern Warfare 3.

Problem solved!
Yep, same here.

Why? 'Cuz I love Oblivion, but found Modern Warfare only slightly more entertaining than, say, Counter-Strike. And in CS, at least I can play Zombie-mode or GunGame...

Y'know, I'm thinking that I'll get Skyrim on a console, just so I can't cheat :D - damn TGM, it's too much temptation when things get hairy... Yeah, big screen, big sound system, comfy sofa, and a few beers... sounds like a plan. I'm even saving a few days holiday from work so I don't have to call in sick on 12.11.11.

This question could not possibly have been any easier for me...Skyrim. I'll be damned if I buy anything from Craptivision anymore.

Well, I did bandy the thought around of buying COD at its release this time, but I hadnt considered this. It solves the problem for me, then.... COD will have to wait.

Didn't even plan on getting MW3 in the first place. Skyrim is where it's at - we ain't had an Elder Scrolls title for 5 years now! However, we've been presented with a new COD game every year since 4 :p

Skyrim hands down. It's not even a question in my mind. The Elder Scroll titles are the only video games I can play for 150-200 hrs. I really get more bang for my buck when I buy them vs. ANYTHING ELSE.

I think Skyrim will sell more. Especially since Kotick want subscription fees on MW3 (not sure if this is confirmed though)
Personally I will buy Skyrim but not MW3.

So TES 5 is a brand new game, but MW 3 is a rehash of a tired old series?
What you fail to realize is that it is not MW 3, but rather CoD 8! (And that's if you don't count the console exclusive CoD Finest Hour and CoD2 Big Red One, or any of the hand-held editions).

Combine this with the fact that the average wait time for TES games is on the order of several years, versus the ~one year limit on CoD games .... Yeah. That stuff gets old real quick.

Why ask this question on the Escapist? Most people here are too elitist to "dirty" themselves with a Call of Duty game.

Me personally Ill probably buy Skyrim, but Modern Warfare 3 is also a definate buy
This isn't elitism. Skyrim has had a 5 year development cycle, while MW3 is just the same 1 year development money grab. Hating on clearly sub-par crap is not elitism.

Skyrim, no question. The only way I'll ever play Modern Warfare 3 is maybe playing through the singeplayer campaign if my brother gets it for his 360. The last Call of Duty game I was really interested in was Call of Duty 4. On the FPS front, I'm far more interested in Battlefield 3.

I'm surprised people are allowing themselves to get hyped up over MW3. I mean it might not be a bad game necessarily but I very much doubt it's offering anything new.

The procedure seems to be that people play a new CoD game, are disappointed, and then play the previous rendition a lot more when they realise all the idiots have stuck with the newer rendition. I'm sure Black Ops will be all the rage once the 12 year olds have all migrated to MW3.

I'm not failing to realise anything. The MW series is totally seperate from the WWII titles and Black Ops, made solely by Infinity Ward instead of the collaborations between IW and Treyarch that make up the combined WWII series. And (just as an aside) if you include all the Elder Scrolls games that have been made we're on TES 10.

Look, I'm really interested to see what both games offer. For immersing myself in another world I'm really looking forward to Skyrim. For hooning around with my mates with a few beers I'm really looking forward to MW3. They both bring different things to the table and I was merely trying to make a point about all the knee-jerk CoD bashing that's going on in this thread by people who are (for some reason) trying to compare the gaming experiences of two very different games.
