Now there's a post title designed to get as many hits as possible.
Escapist: Skyrim Beaten In Just Over Two Hours
Frothing Neckbeards: WTF IS THIS MADNESS? I MUST CLICK AND FIND OUT

Well, safe to say when Skyrim comes out I'll be taking my sweet time. I spent three months playing Oblivion before I beat the main quest, and another year to get through Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.
I was originally going to go with "SKYRIM ONLY 2 HOURS LONG! OH GOD!" but decided to err on the side of professionalism.

2 hours huh? I'll count myself lucky if I finish the game in two months.
You won't be speedrunning, of course, and this really isn't a game I picture many people rushing.

Ooooh...I has custom title.

Yeah, I guess you have a point. Still feels wrong though. :)
Oh it definatly is :) For RPGs its kinda odd, but for FPS's it seems to make more sense. Like for example I did a speedrun of Portal1 not long ago, took me like 11 minutes to do it all using some out of map glitches and things like that. In a game not based around mechanics it seems a little odd, but if youve been playing the game for months and are out to break it like QA people are then why not :) I certainly would try if I had the opportunity.

20+ hours into Dark Souls, about half way through. Might pick up Skyrim once its discounted.
...don't be that guy. Two very different kinds of RPG and what have you...though Dark Souls is really awesome (35 hours, myself), but this is not the time nor place to talk about it.

OT: Yea, I figured as such. Hell, same could probably be said for Oblivion and Fallout 3, and I know for a fact it was possible to "beat" Morrowind in something crazy like 10 minutes.

It's all the side stuff that's going to provide the hundreds of hours of playtime.
But its really easy to be that guy. =P

It is a very different beast. Dark Souls only has dungeon crawling, and multiple attempts due to unforgiving deaths. Skyrim I would hope takes me 30+ hours from npc interaction and story. Im actually looking forward to seeing some good reviews for it. Hope they convince me to stretch my budget.

I bet I won't have even started the main quest in the first 2 hours. Hell I'd be lucky to have finished making my character haha.

Two years from now, some crazy-ass gamer will post a youtube video of himself beating Skyrim in 5-10 minutes.

Its going to take me that long to make my character and pick my skills....
Not likely, last I heard you won't be picking any skills, not as part of the creation process. So all you've got is the character's physical traits to kill 2 hours on :p
Fine Fine...it will take me some time to focus on the MANLY DETAILS and such...ya know...MANLY FACIAL HAIR and the such....

Badassing it up as a Nord

Well took him longer than Morrowind, easily completed in 5 minutes.

EDIT: found the video http://speeddemosarchive.com/Morrowind.html

I don't understand how it's a good thing that he beat the game so fast. It's like someone getting an award for breaking a matress in two days. Sure, he was probably having sex with an elephant on it, but why would you buy a matress if you know it can get worn out in just two days?
Well he was one of the people designing the game and therefore probably knew how to prepare for the main quests, where to find good weapons, what skills to focus on. To use your metaphor it is more like the person who designed the matress focusing all his attention on the spots that he knows will break and in that case it holding up two days is impressive.

Why would anyone try to beat the game that fast? Isn't the whole point of a Bethesda style game to explore the terrain, find hidden secret stories told through the environment and experience the rich expanse of side quests and adventures to be had that have nothing to do with the main quest? I put hundreds of hours into Oblivion, and I fully anticipate putting hundreds more into Skyrim. I mean I get the idea of a speed run, but with a game like this, that almost doesn't seem like an accomplishment.

EDIT: Or at the very least it defeats the purpose...
Normally, yes. But this is a QA tester, which means he's probably seen every single thing in Skyrim many times over.

Morrowind speed run? 5-10 minutes average.

Skyrim Speed run? 2 hours.

Heres to the hopeful 10x gameplay were going to be getting!

Well, he's being paid for it, he's probably going to win a small prize for being the fastest. He gets some internet fame. He needs to work through a game quickly in order to make sure there are no bugs. He has as the article stated played the game for a year and been helping out with designing it so it's not like he's going to be surprised by anything.

I guess it all boils down to "It's his job".

Of course, regular gamers who haven't been playing Skyrim non-stop for the past year - or designing it for that matter - probably won't get through the game quite that fast.

Ok, no, not really. I'm the kind who spends most of his time ignoring main quest and procrastinating by walking slowly through the scenery and all that. But my kudos to this playtester, even when I haven't played the game, I know that's gotta be quite impressive.

Am I supposed to be impressed? I'm more worried that the game will be terrible. I still play oblivion occasionally, will I be able to play this that long? probably not. Oblivion's story was longer. I've played through more than enough times.

My internal cynic says it'' be longer once you pump 40 bucks worth of dlc into the game, but Maybe this is the norm, as I've never played this way,

I goof off, raid tombs, become the bauss of every group in the land.

Part of me however did that under the notion that you had to be strong in order to win the endgame content of an rpg, but the game scales so hell to a level 1 is puppies and kittens with the devil giving you candy while you hit him with the stick you got in the sewer. For a level 30, grand champion, archmage, grey fox, master assassin, fighters guild boss etc it gets a lot harder.

seems like a design flaw to have scaling baddies in this manner.

If 2 hours is the best that a speed runner can do...that actually bodes pretty well. I mean, Morrowind is not a short game, yet speed runners can beat it in seven minutes. Most players take about 2 hours (if skilled enough) to beat Mega Man 2. Some speed runners? 37 minutes on Difficult. You can't judge the length of a game just by the speed run time. Hell, I could have beaten Oblivion in 2 hours if I hadn't done any sidequests. But why would I? That's missing so much of the game.

Also, looking at the last name, I have to say this. Something, Something, Leonard Bernstein.
My best unassisted Oblivion speedrun took me i think about 45 minutes. I'm pretty sure you can do it faster.
