I love how Bethesda are using this whole "bugs are funny" ruse to pull the wool over people's eyes because they know that Skyrim is going to have bugs up the wazoo, and with their fantastic QA skills will not be able to fix all of them, or even a good amount of them.

It doesn't matter how funny they are; bugs are still bugs.
Wasn't the ability to combo (and hence the template of all modern fighting games) the result of a bug found in Street Fighter II that the designers decided to leave in the game anyway? Wasn't the psychotic cops from the GTA games a result of a bug in Race and Chase developed by the precursor to Rockstar Games where the cops kept trying to pull the player over by trying to drive through the player? Wasn't the invention of the modern difficulty curve in Space Invaders the result of a bug in the programming meant to overcome the limitations of the hardware?

Yeah, bugs are bugs UNTIL they become features.

*sigh*

I already said it once, and I might as well say it again.

Those bugs were then, this is now.

If Bethesda have to resort to relying on bugs to come up with comedic content and gameplay innovation then something is wrong.

I also find it amazing how Bethesda can outright announce to the world that their new game is going to have a bunch of bugs and everyone just gets behind them and laughs alongside them like it's all a funny joke.

Actually, I found the "Death by a thousand watermelons" bug to be absolutely hilarious.

It was known better as the item duplication glitch, but my point remains... Those guards never knew what hit them.

[sub]hint: it was watermelons, thousands of them.[/sub]

Yea, bugs are bugs, but some of the time you find the ones that just make the game entirely different.
There should be an inaccessible torture chamber where you can hear some poor guy anguishing about "so many damned melons".

That would be the greatest self-referential easter egg of all time.

People may laugh, but whenever an AI does something you didn't program to, and does it effectively without a hitch, it is actually a sign that your AI is pretty good.
-
The only people who thinks the radiant AI is stupid are the people who have no idea what programming is like and much less what AI programming is like.
-
Though it is pretty funny. It is not stupid though.

I will pay a lot of money for DLC that has me involved in poultry politics. I'm picturing an entire courthouse of chickens. Glad they fixed the glitch though.

....

Well, just to be safe I'm keeping a paralysis spell handy for those chickens.

Oh, this is so very amusing. :D I'll forever be paranoid of chickens, now.

This will likely be a meme in the near future.

Nope, if you chop someones head off in the middle of nowhere, the guards will no longer use their Spidey Sense to zero in on your exact location and launch a tactical nuclear strike.

Crimes need to be witnessed to be reported.

They're creating a massive open-world. They can't get rid of every bug because they can't account for every possible situation. Hell, even in games that are tightly linear, they still have to choose what bugs to fix and what to ignore.
It isn't that (although Bethesda are one of the worst offenders), it's the fact that they are trying to come up with excuses as to why there are bugs in their games.

Of course they can't get rid of all bugs (then again, modders, in their own free time and without pay have managed to do a pretty damn good job), but the fact that they seem to be using them as a way of coming up with humour to me shows that Bethesda are incapable of creating their own comedic content, and judging by Fallout 3, Bethesda can't do comedy.

In the end though, it isn't the bugs that annoy me (i usually ignore them anyway), it's what Bethesda are doing about them.
Keep in mind, modders don't have to worry about getting the game out in time, they can spend all the time they want looking through a 100 hour plus game hammering out every solitary clipping wall texture.

Bethesda had to spend years, you know, making the game. By the time they got done they probably didn't have that long for bug fixing, compared to the size of the game.

I'd go so far to say that some of the bugs in Oblivion(I never found that many) were funny enough to ignore. Sure, they could be doing damage control, but I don't see why we should assume the worst.

P.S: I thought Fallout 3 was pretty funny

Name your character The Mute Avenger, make him a scruffy old, blonde Wood Elf, and go on a quest for revenge.

P.S: Bonus if you make a spell called "Hey Listen" that provokes a psychotic rage.

Damn gossiping Hens! They just won't leave us alone! First sign of trouble and they chicken out and call the cops! Gives me a good reason to take them all out with an AoE Fireball!

Apparently not!
This is good. Very, very good... MWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA
Also, if modding becomes possible on consoles (God I hope so), then I'd install some mod to get this back in,
I'd now have a legitimate excuse to kill chickens!
Captcha: 0.27x titratio...
I don't want to know what's on captcha's mind.
I would not count on modding available for consoles though :(

@ Catpcha: Probably calculating how many people will play on hard.
0.27 x the titratio ingame = hard players :p

Well, there's no-one here but us chickens.

does that make all the chickens stool pigeons?

Perhaps they are just keeping the guards abreast of the situation.

I do think its a fowl bug though, sure to ruffle some feathers.

Guess they chickened out on the amusing bug thing.

Do they have egg on their faces?

Maybe someone was egging the chickens on.

The case of the missing eggs was tough to crack.

Ok, I think I'm done. I'll go get my coat.

We're simply different people, I've never been bothered by anything less than game breaking bugs.
And I don't see why things have to be so very different just because the examples I linked to are a little old.
I agree with you that Bethesda shouldn't have to rely on bugs for innovative features or quirky humour, and I'm not arguing against that. All I'm saying it that if they through sheer serendipity just happen upon an amusing bug there's no reason to get rid of it, and they should learn from it.

Can you say Kentucky Fried Snitches?

OT: Why can't they put this as an option like with FONV wild wasteland.

It's not Obsidian making the game this time around, after all. To my memory, Morrowind and Oblivion had far less nerve-grating bugs at launch, than New Vegas.
New Vegas was made with Bethesda's engine, and the QA testing was done by Bethesda.

I do not believe that bugs should be kept in just because their funny, why not just make an easter egg out of it and then get rid of the bug?
You know, the parallaxing sky texture in the original doom engine was the result of a bug. I remember when I first looked out that window in the first level and saw the sky... It was pretty awesome at the time.

Also, humour is a very subjective thing. What someone finds funny others can find completely obtuse. For my part, I don't have a problem with it, as long as it's not game breaking or anything like that.

The chickens are evolving, folks.

1. In Zelda a bunch of invincible chickens will go on a rampage if you kill just one and they can eventually kill you.

2. In resident evil 5 if you play it on hardcore a chicken can kill you very, very quickly.

3. In Skyrim the chickens now gain oratory capabilities and they can report to guards of criminal activity.

Coincidence? I think fucking not. I don't know what's going on, and perhaps I wont. But this I do know. Video games and chickens? They're up to something.

Be wary.
