Skyrim: Did I make a mistake going Two Handed?

I rolled a Nord who is now level 12 and is profecient in Two Handed Swords and Heavy Armour.

He wares improved full steel armor, uses an improved sky steel great sword and a hunting bow with steel arrows.

He does not have any perks in archery or block or one handed weapons.

He is getting raped by troll dragons who can shoot flames and light him on fire underwater.

Did I make a a character totally unsuited for taking out dragons?

Not really, the dragons just need to land first. That in and of itself can sometimes be a feat. It gets much better if you go through the main quest a ways, because you get a shout that forces dragons hit with it to land. I went DW warrior and had a similar problem, in that you're helpless against a dragon until it gets on the ground.

Once the stupid thing is down, though, you should have absolutely no issues with making it dead.

No, plenty of people have done 2 handed heavy armour builds and they work fine. You should note that you're getting beat by (at that point, going by your level) some of the harder enemies, but that'll sort itself out over time. Obviously the difficulty is getting the dragons on the ground so you can hit them, but there's a shout for that.

I would reccomend investing in smithing and enchanting to buff up your armour more though, seems to be a pretty common combo when used with 2 handed and heavy armour.

Sounds like you need fire resist enchantments. And a fire enchantment on your sword for trolls.

The main problem with me killing dragons is I have no weapons good against them. Bring a ranged companion or just take cover until it lands.

My character seems to be very sluggish, and the dragon seems to have the old school boss ability of inflicting hurt if you so much as touch it.

All you need to do is buy every iron ingot and leather straps and make as many iron daggers as you can. Once you do this you can make your armor/ weapons even better and you'll be making epic items in no time

Don't worry about armor. If you get all the armor perks and max out your smithing, you can make steel armor that exceeds 526 armor points, which brings you up to 80% DR. Any armor points over 526 are useless.

Continue through the main plot line of the game till you get DragonRend then you will have no trouble with dragons.

Nah, my Nord is Light Armour and Two Handed and he's currently owning ass all over Skyrim. He doesn't even have a bow for ranged. Seeing as you're using Heavy Armour go for the Iron Hand Gauntlets though, they're located on a boss level bandit in White River Watch just East of Whiterun, gives a boost in two handed attack damage.

If you're struggling with tough enemies though, consider buying up a load of health potions and levelling your Two Handed and Heavy Armour skill against fodder like bandits and draugrs. Also look out at blacksmiths' shops for enchanted weapons and armour that might be useful, fortify health and stamina on armour and elemental damage on weapons.

EDIT: It's roughly 450-500 iron daggers to 100 Smithing, I think I read somewhere.

My 2h Orc has no problem just standing there and waiting for the thing to land, with my 2 points in the restoration tree I can out heal the damage by a long shot. Once it lands it dies instantly.

Also mix up resist fire potions till you choke. In fact Dragon's tongue and (I forget ingredient sorry)have resist fire and fortify two handed effects. The two handed doesn't help me, but it would be good for you.

Dragons are weak. Try fighting trolls or bears at level 12. I have a warrior same as you. Lev 12, 2H, Heavy Armor. Bit of smithing, I really do need to find a good place to get iron ore at.

For dragons though, your best bet is to stand in the most open place possible. They usually land. If you use block and attack together you can stun them for a second. Use your shout Fus Ro Dah to stop them breathing fire, ice, ect on you.

Actually, wrong, vrbtny. There's a shield perk that allows it to block magic effects like fire.

Nah, not really.
This is honestly entirely what shouts were made for. So someone who wants to use full on melee characters can still have a shot at taking down dragons, once you get flame breath, ice breath, or dragonrend.
Besides, my girlfriend just started a new game on my PS3 (she having her own game on her own PS3) and she decided to go with the big two-handed battle axes. She was honestly amazed that she could take out just about anything in one swing whilst playing on the default Adept difficulty setting.

TBH though, I was really getting sick of people making threads entitled "Such and such is overpowered in Skyrim" and the like. Nothing is overpowered, every form of combat in the game has just had an overhaul and as a result is just more powerful.
I'm honestly yet to see a play style which doesn't suck complete balls. You get at very least semi competent in any combat style and you will rape face all up and down the lands of the north.

Not if you've got good enchanting, my shield makes me almost 100% fire proof! Oh the Enchanting in Skyrim is so horribly broken haha!

I disagree respectfully, one handed with block is very effectve against dragons, elemental protection stops most of a dragons breath attacks and shield bash can interrupt their attacks.

Plus Spellbreaker, pretty much makes you immune from magic.

From what I've read it's 567. Still easy to reach with light or low level heavy armour.

Personally, I favor dual wielding for dragon slayage. In my first game I was doing a quick one two punch, Rending the Dragon and then running up and killing it with a flurry with my two Epic Ebony Swords with 45 point fire damage enchantments (Doing about 110 damage each).
