Not so much oddities, just random impressions
-I detested Oblivion, but can see myself spending some meaningful time here. Love the levelling system; it seems more intuitive that skills develop through use rather than just an assignment of points "I have never smithed before, but I have a skill of 50 so I could, y'know, if I WANTED".

-Two dragons down and the second one SUUUUCKED. Level 8- I came across him while wandering aimlessly past Mistwatch (?) and thought I'd give it a shot...ow ow OWWWW. Not only did I have the big scaly bastard to deal with, but on several occasions a sabretooth or a pack of pit wolves showed up out of nowhere and swiped me. I ended up playing ring a rosy around a tree, sniping it with arrows and saving a lot.

-My Skyrim experience improved the moment I stopped looking for grappling points and trying to hit detective mode.

-still not a fan of the combat, but then combat hasn't been the primary attraction of any of Bethesda's games. It doesn't feel as much like swiping air, but thats kinda faint praise

After reading this thread I feel that the world would be a way more exciting place when there were dragons.

They should start building them, genetically, from the ground up. It will be greatest thing ever.

During my assault on the prison where one of the Grey-mare (right name?) brothers was being held captive I span around and saw somebody running towards me with their weapon drawn. Instinctively I attacked with my block bash and the assumed attacker dropped down dead. It was Lydia, my housecarl. That was when I found out that, unlike Fallout: New Vegas, dead Npc companions don't come back to life.

Ah well.

OT: New things, there is a Pickaxe you find on top of the highest mountain, Throat of the World, called Notched Pickaxe. I'm pretty sure its a Minecraft/Notch reference... There's a subtle Star Trek Next Generation reference in the name of a character, Temba Wide-arm. A couple King Arthur myth references; A sword in a stone, and a skeleton in a lake holding a sword in its hand above the surface (lady in the lake?).
All in all good show Beth, this is a great game.
I have to find that pickaxe. I saw Temba Wide-Arm, thought that there had to be something there, but couldn't place it. I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the most obvious reference in th game. High Hrothgar, sound famaliar? Hrothgar was the name of the king, who was being terrorized by Grendel and Grendel's mother in the epic poem Beowulf and the novel Grendel. But not the recent movie Beowulf, because it sucked.

While I'm definitely enjoying it more then Oblivion and liking a lot about the game and the chances (namely, the atmosphere, the Dragons are more fun the Oblivion Gates and the leveling system is top notch) there's still 1 thing I hate. While this may be like complaining about Beer because its alchoholic, the number of quests and overall lack of structure still annoys me. I currently have 29 quests outstanding and as strange as it may be I find it really off-putting when playing as I end up not being able to decide what to do next. The sooner someone develops a Mod to let you /reorganisehide some to reduce the clutter the better.

Also, no Alt+F4? Really? Surely it cant be that hard to throw in.

So there is this body sitting in the middle of Whiterun, well a citizen just walked up to it and said "People shouldn't leave things lying around that others can trip over."

Things I have experienced in Skyrim so far:

Killed 5 dragons now, and 2 skeletal dragons (skeletal wont give you souls)
Became Arch-Mage of the Mage College which gave me the old arch mages house and great mage gear
Found 3 power words randomly
Found 2 Dragons claw relics (golden and coral)
For some reason whenever the companion i had and I came across an Argonian, we would get attacked, and I couldn't kill them... two dualcast firebolts/icespikes/lightbolts to the face took him down each time and he just got back up :( ditched the companion and now they dont attack -_- wtf!
Completed the main quest only up to the point of becoming "Thane" so i could buy a house in Whiterun...
Explored to almost every corner of the map. (damn mage college quests!!! what a run!!)
Hardest Boss fought so far : Morokei (End of Mage College quests).
I like to shout randomly into the sky... and am currently searching for Frost and Storm Atronach books...

Currently lvl 16 @ 18 hours of play,
Magik = 340 (lots of MP + gear) haha!!
HP = 140
Stam = 120

She can't be killed by enemies. She'll just kneel down for a while. Only you can deliver the killing blow. That sucks.

I strongly disagree. Her viking funeral pyre after an unsuccessful raid on a Forwsworn camp tells me otherwise.

Faenryel or whatever his name is... now him, he just kneels, but he could just be a badass.

Did some research. It appears that you are right. Companions will kneel and enemies will stop attacking them. But a stray AOE spell or slash could finish them off before they recover.

My first non-quest dragon was, oddly, right at the Western Watchtower where you take out the first one. In fact it landed atop the first's skeleton a few times. The really stupid/funny thing, however, was that after a long battle that brought me down to ten or so HP I managed to kill it, and as I was absorbing its soul and the Whiterun guards were running over to congratulate me, a mudcrab snuck up behind me and apparently bit my knees off and I died. I think I screamed a little bit.

I matched most enemies I've encounterd quite well, but when I went up the mountain to High Hrothgar I came across a frost troll who kept killing me in 2 strikes....
That thing was a *****. I got onto a hill and i managed to shoot ONE HUNDRED steel arrows into it with an imperial bow. Then it died. Was a great moment for me. Was a pin cushion.
I just went slightly to the left and skirted around the crag on the outer slope. It's a completely avoidable fight!

Was trying to do a stealth quest for the thieves guild. I was sneeeeeakily sneaking passed all the mercenaries, feeling rather saucy about myself. I was just about to finish my objective when I hear the telltale screech in the sky...

And all the mercenaries run to attack the dragon, and find my hiding spot.

I am pretty sure I married a goat. I was playing a drinking game with some dude and got drunk and passed out. I woke up on the far side of the map and so far everything is leading to having been so drunk I actually married a goat. (Wedding ring and all)

I've killed 1 story dragon, 2 fixed dragons and 5 random dragons so far, all but 2 I took down because they either spawned over a village, or allowed me to lure them to one.

And Werewolf blood is kinda handy, glad I didn't roll Argonian now, also love what people keep saying when you have it "is that fur coming out of your ears?"

And about the giants, yeah, Nord Golf seems to be their game of choice, their chosen club is a, well its a club, or maybe a battleaxe, can't really tell from 60 feet away, 20 feet in the air...

Wierd. Would difficulty level have any bearing? I am playing on Expert and my first Housecarl died when a wilderness dragon attacked us and while we were fighting it, 3 bandits jumped in to aid the dragon. I run 1h edge and shield and I went after the bandits leaving her to the dragon. When I went to regroup by her, I found her body. Have been (voluntarily) without a party since.

This.

Seriously, the game lacks structure. I feel like I'm starting endless quest lines and not actually doing ANYTHING. I have done 1-2 quests in like, every faction so far. And I'm constantly picking up side quests. It's just so overwhelming and cluttered.

It could, sure.

And I too left my housecarl dead. I felt she died honorably and deserved a viking funeral.

I had 3 thugs on me when I was leaving Solitude but I ran away because the guards were near and I was being accused of thievery. A couple of times I've come across a band of ominous warrior mages, one of whom tried to kill me.

I've killed 3 dragons in total so far but I'm learning new shouts faster than I'm collecting souls. I joined the Companions in Whiterun and was given a starting quest by someone but he didn't really say what to do and it's not in my journal. Help?
It's not under misc. It gets its own section (I'm about 87% sure) :)

If it's still not there at all then bug?

Sorry for dp, just figured i'd let this kind soul know what i think is the answer to his/her problem and my last post was pretty big for another quote and explanation :3
No I had a look ,it must be a bug. What did you have to do in the first quest? If I complete it, it might let me do the next one.
There is a vendor woman in the market square. Talk to her and win the fistfight.
Hmm... I think I've spoken to everyone. What was her name?
My quest journal says Carlotta Valentia. She is the one who talks about supporting her daughter.
No I just checked it's not working. I tries using console commands but that's not working either. Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick to the Thieves Guild.
Fagotto said that the first quest was randomized. Yeah, sorry. Your only option is to check
everyone in Whiterun or give up. :/
so thats why i kept getting my arse handed to me by the falmers that was my first quest kill there leader i leveled to level 17 and they still are a pain in the asre
