Skyrim or The Witcher 2?

Anyhoo, OT: I LOVE the woods in The Witcher 2. They just feel so much better than the standard "randomly positioned bunch of trees" in most other games. So yeah, that's my reason for the preference. I like both games, but Skyrim just doesn't have that forest area.

I'm assuming the question is which do you prefer. In which case the answer is the Witcher 2, it's gameplay is generally better than Skyrim's, your choices actually affect the world around you(to a degree), and unlike Skyrim, it's quests are quality over quantity. On the otherhand I can find nothing nice to say about Skyrim.

This is why I like to refer to Witcher 2's story as Semi-Linear.

Its linear in the sense that Skyrim's war between the Stormcloaks and the Imperials is linear. There is a linear set of missions for each side, and you get to choose a side.

You Role Play as Geralt as it isn't a set in stone "This must happen every time" sort of thing. Geralt is a pre-defined character, but key conversations are interactive, and allow you to choose how his pre-defined character reacts to certain situations, whilst still keeping in that character. You can't go around and slaughter a village because you felt like it, but you can decide whether to help one set of potential allies, or the other, whether to let people who cross you go, or whether to kill them, to deceive some, or to help them.

At the end of the day this will always come down to preference for me. I love Skyrim and the open ended storytelling, within ten minutes I had an entire backstory and psyche of my character in place and it was fun imagining and seeing how he interacted with the world. While the choices I made may have had less visible changes then I understand they do in Witcher 2 they were still rewarding because I knew excactly why this character I had created would make them.

As I say though it really is just my preference.

Yeah, I get that, and really that's why so many have said that the two are incomparable. They are two very different styles of Western RPG, and which one is better depends entirely on your preferences.

Either way, chapter one is both easier and harder in its own ways. There are a number of relatively easy things to do, and there are some that will absolutely kick your ass - like the second boss fight in Chapter 1.

I'll give you some advice now, if you want it. Its a nice, easy combo that will make your life a lot easier when you fight anything, especially if it can block.

Aard Sign [The knockback and stun one] is god. In general it will give you 2-4 free hits against whatever target you use it on, even if it doesn't stun them. Use it, attack until you get blocked, roll back, attack until you get blocked, and its a lot easier.

Something else that helps is heading straight for the health upgrades in the level up menu. The second levels of said upgrades especially provide a great boost, and will have you survive what feels like ten times longer after you get them.

Reading through these posts I can't help but think that the internet is missing the point of doing a comparison. Yes, you compare things when they are similar to highlight the differences, but you also compare vastly different options to determine which you like more. Saying that Skyrim and Witcher 2 are incomparable is just false, while I can't pick as I *still* haven't played Witcher 2 yet I can say I much prefer Skyrim to Dragon Age: Origins, despite their differences in almost all but setting. This is due to story, quests, feel of the world, gameplay, and pretty much everything (yeah, I really didn't like DA:O). I also liked Avengers more than TDKR, despite their "lack of comparability".

TL;DR: stop whining about things not being comparable and make a choice!

To be fair a lot of it is thanks to OPs lack of direction for the thread.

What is this thread about? Should you get Skyrim or The Witcher 2? Which is the better game, Skyrim or TW2? Which do you enjoy more, Skyrim or TW2?

Only the last one is an example where what you've said actually works. Which do you prefer. In that case, the comparison is easy.
In the first case, additional information is needed - namely what whoever is looking at each game likes in RPGs and games in general - for the comparison, and in the middle option there can be no answer as the games are too different to say which is better. Is Skyrim better because it has a larger open world? Why does this make it better than the more polished, closed Witcher world?

A lot of the reason behind the 'The two are incomparable' is likely coming from people interpreting the thread as a 'Which is the better game' thread, as opposed to a 'Which did you enjoy more' thread, so it is understandable.

I don't like Geralt and I'm not really interested in the world of The Witcher. I like making my own character and I really like the world of The Elder Scrolls. Big surprise, I like Skyrim.

The Witcher 2 was good but I didn't like it enough to buy it for two main reasons:

1. I hated The Witcher 2's waypoint markers that were hard to read and irritating to follow.

2.I just don't think it has enough replay value to justify actually buying it.

hey fellow escapists am interested in both skyrim and witcher 2 but i only want to get one of them. personsally i love open world games but only if it has a good story. am a sucker for a well told story. so please advice me whether to get skyrim or witcher 2. am interested in huge open world of skyrim while being interested in witcher 2 for its good story. so please advice which one to get ?
