Personally I thought the Zelda games had a decent length to them already... Hopefully this one isn't long because of really huge environments or repeated puzzles.
Yeah, I've already found that Zelda titles are getting a bit long for me these days. I don't have the free time I did as a kid anymore, and I don't like dedicating all my free time to a single game anymore.

This no doubt sounds like great news to many, but to me it's a big turnoff.

One thing that will bother me though is if that button overlay on the right side of the picture is going to be there all the time or if it can be turned off, or just there to show you what to press when you learn new technuiqes :p
I recall at Gamescom they where mostly off during the playtest booths, But it was a limited build so i couldnt sneak into the options(first thing i aways do, pisses off reps so much) but it wasnt accually that obv. when i was playing.

I'm ready. It's too long between Zelda games. The story will be the same, some of the puzzles will be annoying, but it'll be worth it. I remember drudging through Wind Waker at the end, and it was completely worth it to see Hyrule Frozen in time and black and white in that final section. What a great ending section that game had, trumped the whole rest of the game easy.

Also, running around as a wolf in Twilight Princess was fun. Wonder what little tidbit they are going to add to the game. Also, non motion sword swinging will be included, as it was in TP.

If that extra time comes from Metroid Prime/Twilight Princess-esque padding, I will be very disappointed in you, Nintendo. I still have the game pre-ordered, but I will be very much disappoint in you, son (y'know, like you care).

However, if that game time comes from non-bullshit, I suppose my breaks from Skyrim will be longer than anticipated.

Highly doubt it, even simple monsters needed some sort of complex swinging motion, and the Stalfos fight.. yeah with that level of design gone into using the wii-mote for a change, i dont see that working with a normal gamepad.

I thought twilight princess had a bit too much padding with tear collecting and unlocking portals. Hope this isn't repeated.
Thta wasn't nearly as annoying as the triforce shards collecting in WW. Almost made me not finish that game even though it is a good zelda game.
Or the Chozo Lore in Metroid Prime, or the Key's in Metroid Prime 2 or the ...well, nintendo loves to do this :D
I thought that the key hunting in the prime games was done pretty well seeing as you tended to find them progressively through the story, instead of the common "its near the end of the game, go find all 20 keys at once".
Prime 1, maybe.
But Prime 2 needed a visor to actually see the keys, so you couldn't find them before hand.
Oh right, forgot about the dark visor. Prime 2 was a great game filled with a lot of missteps in the design wasn't it?

Err.. is it 50-100 hours long of pure fun and gameplay.. or most of it will be pointless, boring filler?

I mean, WW was full of filler (travel time) and i hated that part. Plus the sea was empty and boring.
TP had a similar problem that the overworld was pretty much empty and lifeless.

Seeing "long playtime" doesnt make me more interested in buying SS. I rather have something short and sweet rather than long and bland.

Oh well, lets wait and see what they will do for this one.

Yeah, fuck, imagine if they did that. You come up to the door into the final boss fight and the message pops up saying "This key's in Metroid Prime 2."

How the FUCK would you get that into Skyward Sword?

That'd be a bit of a pickle, really.

Well, Zelda games have never been all that short. I mean, of the 3D ones, Majora's Mask is the shortest, but I've still spent around a hundred hours playing it. It's also the tightest, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess had some annoying filler quests. I'd rather do without those, even if it cut down playtime.

This isn't really what he said. A story I saw on IGN said that because the game had a second playthrough and a boss rush mode, that the game could be 50 to 100 hours. So realistically, it's probably more like 20 to 30 hours, like most other Zelda games. It's still nothing to sneeze at, but this isn't Skyrim we're talking about.

Yeah I gotta step up for Metroid here as I actually enjoyed this. I understand it can be looked at as 'backtracking' to some but for others like myself it's more falls under 'exploring'. Metroid was never supposed to be a game where you progress through linear levels, everything should be tied together with plenty of places where you can't get to now but if you come back later can find power ups. And what better way to do this than providing a reason to do so at the end of the game? Additionally, yes it was crappy in Wind Waker, but Prime actually but some effort and creativity into it building new locations with some interesting ways to get there.

I don't understand all the complaining about elleged "backtracking" and "filler quests." This is Zelda we're talking about. If you don't want to have to visit an area more than once or find hidden objects, (in other words, explore) this is not the game for you.

What i hear about SS (mmm fun abbreviation) sounds very promising though since TP did disappoint me a bit i will not hype myself too much for it. Doesn't mean i still can not wait for it.
I acctualy enjoyed collectiong the triforce pieces more due to diffrient varity that is used in it fully for some of it.

TP disapointed me as well and the bosses i felt sorry for since they where so easy :/

OT: I call Bullshit on this and if it somehow it it will prob be endless repeated time puzzles or quests

What nintendo needs to add to games is 3Heart Mode since many people including myself like to try and play a game like that already

If you can already do it why does Nintendo need to change it?

OT: I would be excited if it weren't for the damned motion controls. I couldn't care less about the length.

should I be excited about that?
Hahahaha my thoughts exactly.
Seriously though I don't know if SS being longer is a good thing or not. It seems like a lot of the extra hours may be grind.
Should this addition be seen as a plus or a minus?

Final Fantasy XIII had a hundred hour playthough.
It really -really- didn't. I got all the achievements, did everything in the game in under 50 hours, also the main story in about 30... you may just be slow?

OT: They will add like 2 new things but it'll still be the case of "what will I get first the hookshot or the boomerang" - innovation to nintendo is very rare. Oh and call me a weirdo but I liked the collection thing on WW and really liked TP.

Console Zelda's games are always big. The smallest one being Win Walker, 15 - 30h. Even this is big for an action adventure these days. If you consider that action adventure still exist these days.
