And this(among other things) is why PC > Consoles.
Can of worms have been opened. RAAAAAAGE!!! HA!

Bethesda should be hiring those who are making the best mods. I hope they're paying attention to what people are doing in the workshop. Soon enough there will be no need for DLC since the community of fans are making their own (if companies really care about their customers, which I doubt). I'm sure consoles will be following suit in a generation or so.

So people have to buy an over 10 year old game to play a mod...
Really, seriously?

Yes. Because when they first started Morroblivion they almost got cease and desisted out of existence because they didn't specifically require you have Morrowind installed.

They survived because they fly under the radar and they now require you have Morrowind installed to install the mod. The attention they are getting at the moment is likely to net them another swarm of cease and desists.

Now I just hope someone else loves the Morrowind leveling/skill system as much as I do and decide to mod that in as well. Yes, I'm aware most people prefer the hand-holding in Skyrim, but I would love to have a reason to invest time into a character again.
Regardless, I'm very much looking forward to the final release for this. Morrowind is still one of the most fascinating and mysterious lands to ever grace video games. I spent so much time there as a kid and I know there is so much I didn't get to see. Can't wait to go back there again.

Question. Why not wait until the last game, and THEN put all this work in. Or maybe Bethesda will make the last game have all the locations...that would be amazing...and huge. Like...idek how many blu-rays...NOW I WANT IT!
There is no way to tell when the last Elder Scrolls will be. And it's far easier to port the games between the version when they only have to move one game engine up at a time, rather than trying to port from a decade old engine to a brand new one. This way is far more efficient and shows just how much people loved Morrowind. It's a good thing.

3. There is the much more ambitious, awesome, and worthy of attention project out there called OpenMW [https://openmw.org/en/], which is a completely new engine for Morrowind. It's not finished yet, but when it is, it will allow people to experience Morrowind in all it's glory with the possibility of fixing the glaring gameplay issues with it. Seriously, check it out.
Oh wow, this looks fantastic. Thank you for spreading the word about it, I may have never found this otherwise. I can't wait to give this a try.

Got to be honest, I really don't see the point.

I mean, from that video, Morrowind looks like ass when ported to the Skyrim build of the Gamebryo engine. The textures are still flat and basic, the ploy count still low, and the lack of fog or mist robs everything of the Morrowidn atmosphere.

There are already countless mods which update the game to have better textures, higher poly models, better lighting and such. In fact, the latest Morrowind Visual Overhaul video on youtube looks pretty damn stunning. I don't really see what porting the game to Skyrim offers that countless visual mods haven't already done.
Not just overhauled combat, but radiant AI gives so much life to the game world. Everybody goes about their day to day business. It also adds voice acting to Morrowind! So that's all 52'158 lines of dialogue in Morrowind will be voiced.

It also greatly improves Syrim, featuring Deadly Reflex so that you can do decipations and finishing moves, kicks ect... with new spells: Mark & Recall, Intervention (Divine/Almsivi), Levitation/Slowfall Spells and play all 3 games with your one character.

There will be other advantages like being able to play as your werewolf character in Oblivion..

and not having that crappy level scaling system, so that you can no longer take on every creature as a level 1 character, only merchants have leveled inventories.

It's not just about stunning visuals.

No they can't get cease and desisted anymore. They managed to find a work around.. with mesh and texture replacers, you haven't even read their FAQ :/

Oh hell yes.
Please let me scale those buildings.
I spent so many hours climbing shit in Morrowind.
If I saw something tall, I'd spend hours, sometimes literally, finding a way to get to the top.
It was probably my #1 timesink.

Not a good idea to broadcast what they're doing before it's complete. They're probably going to get a "Cease and Desist" letter for it. If you're going to release a mod that recreates a company's game, it's better to finish the entire thing in secret before telling anybody about it, and then release it instantaneously in its entirety. That way the company doesn't know you're doing it until it's done, and therefore can't stop you early with a "Cease and Desist" letter. (The old "Your parents can't tell you 'no' if you don't ask." trick.) That would give lots of people time to download the finished mod it before it gets taken down, which means lots of people will be able to re-upload it under the radar later.

It's a shame. I would have really liked to see this completed, but they've exposed themselves now.

And lo, we are provided with yet another reason to call for Bethesda to finally make a full-on Elder Scrolls game featuring every region with missions and quests and such across all of Tamriel, as an official part of the franchise. TAKE MY MONEY, DAMMIT!

I wonder if they will get all the weather effects in there. I remember Morrowind being a very dark and dreary place but the screens are really really bright. So so excited!

I hope something like this comes to the consoles (or at least the 360).

OT: Some of those textures do not hold up. Some of it had that very distinct late '90s, early '00s uncanny 3D rendering feel to it. And the 1ft-1ft floor texture that kept getting repeted was distracting.

To be honest, do you really think any added voice acting, if any is actually added, is going to be any good? Even if it is good, due to the amount of dialogue there probably won't be huge variety in voice actors, and it will just be the whole Oblivion and Skyrim problem of finding tons of people with the same voice. Not to mention that radiant AI is pretty flawed, and the only difference would be certain people would be in bed at certain times, which would make being a thief way easier than it was. Also, it doesn't really count as improving Skyrim if it comes packed with another mod. Not to mention the fact that most people who want to play Morrowind, don't really want to have to buy two games, they want to buy one game, Morrowind. In fact, most of the things this remake would do, could easily be done now. If I wanted to be a werewolf in Oblivion, there's a mod for that, if I want to remove the level scaling in Oblivion, there's a mod for that. If I want upgraded visuals in Morrowind or Oblivion, there are mods for that. If I want better combat in Morrowind, Skyrim, or Oblivion, there are mod's for that which I could just download now. This mod doesn't really add much that isn't already there.

Well I guess with Skyrim having all of Morrowind and Oblivion mapped out in a low detail geometry, adding them into Skyrim was a eventuality regardless of how you feel about 'upgrading them all'. I personally think most people have/or will play Morrowind, doesn't mean we can't play it with everything upto scale with the new games... rather than "trying" to make it up to scale with all these different mods. It can be done with one all encompassing mod for all 3 games.

And at the moment there is no mod that allows you to play all games with your one character.

Considering the fact that to many, Skyrim and Oblivion are definitely not "upgrades" from Morrowind, than no one is bringing Morrowind up to scale. Add Morrowind to Skyrim, and you simply won't have half the things that were in Morrowind. The fog that added to the atmosphere, the immersion provided through the fact that NPCs couldn't get into conversations with someone who has the same voice, and so on. Not to mention it would be practically impossible to balance being able to play all three games with the same character. At most all they could do is make it so all the character shares is Appearance and name, but is essentially a separate entity in each.

I'm not going to bash people who are interested in this project, but I am not interested. One of the reasons I love Morrowind so much because it's so different from the other games in the series. Why would they homogenize it?

EDIT: Sorry, my brain is tired. Even though I read the article I still got it mixed up. Disregard my homogenization comment.

I think my eyes are bleeding, but the visuals on this mod are just beutiful.

But wait a moment, wasn't Morrowind mostly destroyed when Red Mountain erupted?

Unless it involves time travel this mod makes no sense lorewise
Vvardenfell should be ash wasteland, instead they made it to look like in TES3

A little Nirn history here
In between TES4 and TES5 (around E4Y40 to be more specific) there was one particular event that took place in a book "The Infernal City"
I won't spoil it but it resulted in Ministry of Truth (the big floating rock above city of Vivec) crashing into the Vvardenfell with full force (because it wasn't stopped, but rather suspended in a form of stasis, so all original kinetic force was still there)
That started massive eruption of the Red Mountain (the volcano in the middle of Vvardenfell)
So at the point of E4Y200 (when TES5 takes place), Vvardenfell is heavily changed (maybe even still mostly uninhabited)
Maybe Dunmer are starting to retake their land back (it is 160y after the catastrophe), but it is unlikely, since most of Morrowind mainland is taken over by Argonians after weakened Dunmer were defeated in a war with a Black Marsh (another event that took place in between TES4 and TES5 and after destruction of Vvardefell)

So yeah, Morrowind is complicated province to make right.
I've got to be honest, this kind of storytelling annoys the fuck out of me.

The whole point of Morrowind's story is that you're this reincarnated Chosen One who ends up taking back the province for the natives. It's painted as this big epic event. It's a legend in the making.

And then a few centuries later, all of that is undone by a big old volcano eruption. What was the point of the player going through all that shit in Morrowind if the island is just going to get nuked not long after?
Actually, the whole point of Morrowind wasn't that you were some reincarnated chosen one taking the provinces back for the genocidal xenophobic natives - The point is that in order to stop some crazy genocidal god from bringing about a Zombie Apocalypse, you have to destroy one of the key artifacts holding the world together, and rob the power from the guy who's keeping the giant rock from smashing into the continent and blowing everything up. You didn't save the world in Morrowind - you broke it. You broke it hard.

Besides, the time between Morrowind and the Red Year is comparable to the current age of U.S.A.

I tried to get into Morrowind several times, but I recall having difficulty actually finding the main quest. I also recall that the water was extremely shiny. But if this mod works out I may give it a shot. Now that I've plugged so many hours into skyrim I'm also considering giving Oblivion a chance, so why not Morrowind. If I can find the disc...

morrowblivion (morrowind+oblivion) also required to have both games installed. result was bethesda banned that mod as copyright infrigment or something.

Wonder how they're gonna enforce the need to have Morrowind to install and play the mod.
the mod does not work without the original morrowind files. the mod itself carries no such files and they have to be "found" on your machine. now whether that morrowind on your machine is legal or pirated it cant know, but thats your problem, not the mod creator.
to put it simply: it wont work without morrowind.
