Unless it's a total conversion, what I'd like to know is how they're going to have you go back in time from 4E 201 to 3E 427. What Vvardenfell is at 4E201 is a smouldering pile of lava, ash, and ruins after the Red Year.
It's a total conversion. Essentially it's recreating the game 'Morrowind' with the Skyrim engine rather than creating a new game set in Morrowind.

Further proof that Bethesda's modding community could create a better Elder Scrolls game than Bethesda, and probably in less time too.

I can't seem to put my finger on it but to me the mod/port itself just seems a bit off, not to mention the voice acting will be fan made of course and I rarely sit well with fan voice acting for almost anything.
Could it be much worse than the standard voice acting? Skyrim doesn't exactly have the most authentic sounding characters to begin with. As long as not every person sounds like a 17 year old trying to make their voice deeper, as is sometimes the case, I'll be satisfied.
the standard voice acting wasn't the best either but I'm the type of guy who's not a fan of fan vocal input or fan fiction.

I prefer it to come from the original creators 90% of the time from a game.

70 30 voice actors!? That's 65 25 more than Skyrim!
hah was just about to make this comment!

that's...23 more than oblivion! success!

OT: this is looking pretty awesome, too bad it'll probably take years before it comes out :/

Since the enemies use the animation of already existing Skyrim enemies, I wonder if Cliff Racers will fight like Dragons... swooping around you like vultures, dive bombs when they take damage and they might even have a breath attack that gives you Diseases and Blight!
Absorbing the souls of Cliff Racers, the Dragonborn has fallen so very far.

See, now I'm torn. One the one hand this mod looks incredibly impressive and my hat goes off to everyone involved, but on the other hand I still to this day enjoy creating character concepts to replay Morrowind and I think I would very much miss from this mod the mechanics of the original. I do think that it will do an excellent job of exposing newer gamers to Morrowind though, and that can only be a good thing.

Basically a hearty congratulations (and indeed thanks) to the guys and gals making this mod possible. I know I'm a snarky old bugger, but seriously good job.

Not to pick nits, but if it requires MORROWIND to play and not Skyrim, isn't it a Morrowind mod??
It requires both games to run. Since it's based off the Skyrim engine however it would probably classify as a Skyrim total conversion mod using assets from Morrowind.

Nice job, but it'll never be finished.

Bethesda has strict rules regarding modding, among them it bans porting assets from other games and Skywind has been doing pretty much just that for the past year or so.
A project like Falskaar or Beyond Skyrim they don't have an issue with because those projects are done either with Skyrim's assets or they create their own.
At this point Skywind is not a mod, it is a fanmade port and I don't know if Bethesda approves of it.
Well, the article did state that you need a copy of Morrowind to play, so there's that. Don't know why Bethesda would nail them if it requires that you legally own both games first.

The amount of willingness to create amazing material from unpaid members of the gaming community never ceases to amaze me.

I'm not a fan of Skyrim or really TES in general because of the combat, but this is one damn impressive mod.

Will there be Cliff Racers? ^^
Oh dear God I hope not!
But it wouldn't be Morrow Wind without them ;p.
I could live with that. If it meant not having those fuckers pecking at my head every 5 steps, I could definitely live with that.

I assume it'll require Skyrim as well as the original Morrowind? Don't have Skyrim on the PC, but I will most probably get it for this mod. If they do it well I'll even consider donating for once(yeah, I'm a cheap fuck).

Will only take Skyrim, and a mod patch that will probably take eons to download install T_T

But I assure you the worth is very worth.

I'm interested to know how/if Skywind brings back Morrowind's gear/magic system in some form. Is it possible to bring back the spells/spell schools which are no longer around, for example? What about Medium armour, clothing and armour slots, short and long bladed weapons, classes, racial/gender bonuses? All the "depth" that's slowly been removed in the name of consolising and simplifying.

Why do these people want to ruin my life. I don't want to die sitting in front of my PC.

I personally think that Morrowind doesn't really need to be redone on newer engine
Daggerfall needs (I REALLY can't stand sprite enemies)
But I think developers would need to take certain liberties with Daggerfall to such extent it could be considered reboot.

They specifically require that one owns both Skyrim and Morrowind in order to get around any potential infringement issues.

OT: I have been looking very forward to this. Morrowind could definitely use an remake, since while it still is a good game in terms of story and world, the graphics and mechanics are rather dated.
