@ kollega: Finally someone that gets it, thank you for knowing what you're talking about.

But... scientifically they'd ned sleep too.
I mean... if they don't eat they'll starve to death.
So if they don't sleep they'd run out of batteries.

If it's the kind of zombie that doesn't starve then sure, they don't need sleep.

Ps. Necronomicon ftw

They just wander aimlessly, to quote an old classic "They will get up and kill, the people they kill get up and kill. they kill for one thing, and that's food". That's what makes them so...inhuman.

Well of course you haven't seen a sleeping zombie, EVERYBODY knows that real zombies don't sleep.

No really its because they wouldn't be scary, just like if you had a Werewolf lick its crotch or something, it'd ruin the atmosphere.

The nurses in the Silent Hill movie are asleep/dormant.
Until one points a light at them, that is.
And I'd say they qualify as zombie-like monsters.

Zombies don't sleep because they are incapable of sleep. The zombified brain operates on the same level of effenciency at all times, and doesn't "Power down" like the normal brain does when it sleeps.
The Human Brain does not actually power down when you sleep, just different areas become active. Studies have shown that in REM sleep, which is deep sleep, your brain is actually working harder than it does most waking hours.

For those interested, the human brain takes roughly an hour to get into REM sleep, passing through 3 stages before that. It only spends about fifteen minutes in REM, then goes back to stage 3 for a period of time, then back into REM and so on.

One of the leading theories on atleast one thing that the brain does while it sleeps, which takes most of its activity, is re-arranging everything learnt that day in a way that makes sense and makes it more easily accessible. This is why some programs recommend studying then sleeping right away. I personally find it works very well.

I would hazard a guess that the zombie never sleeps, but if it goes for a prolonged period without any sensory input, it would probably just mull around for a while. Eventually some sort of sensory input (thunderclap, motorbike engine turning over) would cause it to cock its head to one side and let out its 'hungry groan."

I tend to consider the "Zombie survival guide" to be the end-all-be-all zombie handbook, and have chosen to hold the brooks interpretation as canon.

C'mon... I told you not to make a big deal out of the fact that they can't sleep.
I know that already... Still...
Even if they can't sleep doesn't mean that there hasn't been someone that has made a movie with a sleeping zombie.
Or someone that has drawn a cartoon of a sleeping zombie.

Get my point?

Just like vampires die in the sunlight, I've seen movies with vampires in broad sunlight.
That's still better than the pussified vampires that GLITTER in sunlight. Fucking Twilight -_-

Well said, but my theory holds true: Zombies don't sleep because they can't sleep. The zombified brain operates on the same level of efficeny at all times and doesn't change "stages" or activate/close down different parts. Therefore, no sleep.

Think of it this way, when zombies don't sense living people, what do they do? They walk slowly with their heads lowered. That must count as being comatose. So they get some sort of rest.

Well, dead zombies are technically sleeping, cause they're not awake, so...

You've never seen a dead zombie?

No, you've seen movies with fags in broad sunlight. Vampires simply can't go out in sunlight.

I always hate these kinds of threads, as people try to say something about zombies that sounds scientific.

THEY DON'T EXIST.
Don't be an idiot.

Of course they do.
