The Slenderman Mythos is quite interesting, as it manages to pray on alot of psychological fears. You have body horror, you have a creature that could easily be mistaken for a tree (and thus visa versa) and he gets closer to you the more you know/think about him (thus inducing paranoia. Quite ingenious, to the point that I know it's fake but it still scares the hell outta me.

Well, considering I have done extensive reaserch in the field(and lost many hours of sleep because of it) I can expand on your little bio at the top.

Slenderman start on the SomethingAwful.com forums, during a "Create your own Paranormal Photos" Photoshop contest. A user named Victor Surge submitted two photos, along with a small back story.

Afterwords, many more "Slender Man" photos were submitted, some by Victor Surge and some by other forum users. Slender Man quickly became the center piece of the thread.

From there the myth grew and grew to the point where it had escaped the web, and is now considered a large phenominon. Many videos and pictures have been created, although Marble Hornets is quite good. I recomend it to anybody who enjoys watching Blair-Witch Project styled movies; you will certainly enjoy it.

But is it real? No. Completely made up.

Still scares the shit out of me though.

Thanks for making me parinoid, I had forgotten about Slendy for a good long while and now i wish it had stayed that way. The more i tell myself its fake the more i freak out and think i see him. The creepy thing is that I have to get up for class early in the mornings and it gets quite foggy round here... and there are trees... a lot of trees.

We have a TV show in the UK called "Most Haunted". It is usually considered to be utterly bogus and when they do a live broadcast from a haunted location it involves lots of night vision cameras and people screaming and to date they have never actually captured anything genuine on camera (although they have been trying for the better part of a decade of one season per year and half a dozen weekend long live specials). But they do invite people to phone in or text if you think that you have seen something on the streaming web cams...

I suppose these days they are wise to hoaxes and memes. Although hearing their presenters scream themselves hoarse at all sorts of fake bullshit I wonder if they are wise enough to tie their own shoelaces.

I know it isn't real and I absolutely agree with all of your points in fact that was exactly what I was getting at. I really enjoyed the story and was intrigued ten fold after watching the videos.
