Their bassist died.

If I'm in the mood I listen to them, but it doesn't occur that often. Iowa is my favorite.
Liked to listen to them a few years ago, but my horizon grew and my urge to listen to them shrinked.
I got a big laugh out of "Choose a Username"'s posts, so much fail.

I think their best album was Vol 3 : The subliminal Verses. The drums just carried the whole album to be honest
QFT, although my gateway bands were far more embarrassing - Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit were where it was at. Don't worry, I've moved on.trog08 said:

That describes my experiences in listening to Slipknot. I didn't like their self titled album or All Hope Is Gone. I used to listen to them all the time,but I've moved on to other bands. Every once in a while I'll listen to Subliminal Verses; otherwise I don't really isten to them much anymore.trog08 said:

I consider them like the 300 of music, it's not clever or well made but it's fun to listen to, and people who are like, "hurr hurr, I'm so cultured Slipknot are terrible", they're not meant to be particularly "good", they're just pure masochistic fun.

What is precisely wrong with Slipknot in comparison to Cynic, or whatever, yeah Cynic is much more complicated but I'm gonna go ahead and say Slipknot's music is gonna work more with dynamics as popular music often does. I remember I used to hate them, but that was like 5 years ago when I was still listening to Pop music. Since then my eyes have opened
Having said that, I don't even like Slipknot, so I'm not entirely sure why I'm arguing against you, I guess I just don't particularly like musical snobbery.
I think they are thoroughly mediocre at their absolute best. In my early-mid teens, a lot of my friends were into them, so I was very exposed to their music. I never really liked any of it, though. To me, it was as if they tried to take the guitar work from bands like Korn (which I do not like) and mix it with rap (which I do -not- like), but still being worse at those aspects than the musicians who focus on either.
Also, and I feel this must be underlined, saying that Slipknot is not a mainstream band is absolutely deluded. They are this generation's Kiss, complete with face gimmicks (masks/face paint) and having a "dangerous" image to scare parents.

i wouldnt go as far to say genious.....more like........mentally challenged.......but in all honesty im not a big fan...yeah 1-2 good songs the rest is meh
