All said, they do put on one hell of a show though, I went with my younger brother a year or two back and it was a stupendously good show.
I went to one of their shows two years ago too. Absolutely awesome.
Yeah, I was rather suprised. I only had to go to pretty much babysit my brother, becauseI'm not a huge fan, but they really were great, better than what a lot of people would consider a 'proper' metal band.

Which metal bands would that be exactly?
Testament, possibly Machine Head (they were a slight disappointment, I felt), In Flames.

They got worse over time, but they're definitely listen-to-able, with the odd moment of proper goodness. They definitely under-use their musical talent that they initially displayed, but it's nothing that's actually offensive to my ears. I think most of the hate comes from just being too popular and elitist metalheads like to look down on the 'maggots'.
No, its because they are a gimmicky band that is fitting to the stereotype that metal is simplistic, primitive and is just screaming.

Besides, Iron Maiden and Metallica are extremely well known, and very popular, even more so in the 70s/80s, and i dont really see metlheads looking down on these bands,(despite metallica selling out yadda yadda, they are still respected for their first 4 albums, which are metal classics).
I'm not saying it's the sole reason, but it certaintly doesn't help and tends to make a lot of metal fans predjuduced against them. Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat is far from "primitive" or "simplistic", although for some bizarre reason, their best album is the most little-known.

Liked them when they first came out, I don't listen to them anymore, however.

I LOVE them live, tho. They are/were fantastic every time I saw them.

I was impressed by how emotional Corey Taylor was, and how much he vocalized his appreciation for all of the support from his fans. Not to mention the stage props used throughout the show. One of the more visually entertaining concerts I've ever been to.

Thats not alot of proper metal bands though, i dont even think their very good either, although In Flames first 3 albums were well made.
I personally love In Flames. As to 'proper' metal bands, or any bands for that matter... I just don't believe there is such a clean cut, black & white definition, or that there ever will be.

I listen to a lot of what's considered to be more mainstream metal, or metalcore ("That isn't real metal, bitches!" - as some would constantly state), but I really don't care. I only know what people consider it to be by chance. I tend to stray from stating that I listen to particular sub-genres because too many people go off on rants about how one sub-genre or band isn't 'true' or 'good'. Fucks me right off... people's constant need to belittle other's interests because, quite simply, they don't like it - and apparently, therefore, it sucks. Pfft.

[small]Ironic that I kinda, sorta, really fell into a rant about people ranting, hey?[/small]

I used to be ok with them, and then I watched an interview where the lead singer was asked to respond to a comment on how slipnot fans were all fat little kids, and out of millions of answers he gave the DUMBEST answer I have ever heard. So now I think slipnot are just dumb, literally.

I wasnt really arguing wether some bands were proper or not, Machine Head,In Flames,Testament are all metal bands, although im not a fan of them.

But im not suprised for Metalheads hate on metalcore. Metalcore is a cancer for metal, bringing in shitloads of commercialism, so is Deathcore and Nu Metal, and Hair/Glam metal, Melodic Death Metal, and Alternative Metal.

I despise these subgenres, because they bring commercialism with them, while not bringing much creativity. For me personally though, commercialism destroys emotions in music, anything that i consider commercial, ussually has no soul for me.

There are expceptions, but the day when Deathcore,Melodeath and Metalcore dies, will be a good day for metal.

Wether their true or not i dont care, but i know their bad, im not phased by tr00ness of bands, i probably like some bands which are notr tr00 (Isis,Meshuggah,Opeth,Wolves In The Throne Room etc.)

Just a small thing...

You don't like Testament?

Oh no, I realize you weren't arguing, I just kinda fell into a rant about how I feel.

I actually listen to a bit of mainstream music, in pretty much all genres (save country), and I find that there is creativity present, although it's usually less frequent. But still, a lot of mainstream is absolute shite, and I won't deny that.

Since we are discussing Slipknot, I feel this is appropriate.
Honestly, I don't know much about Slipknot. From what I've heard, they are okay.
Haha! Thank you, you just made my day!

On Topic: I severely dislike Slipknot. My Reason? They are ust so...

Generic?

Yes, that's a word for it. Generic. They have dull riffs and predictable sounds. I think that Slipknot are only really famous for wearing Masks, it's the only thing that makes them unique.

I hate their Music.

I don't particularly like any metal. Slipknot are no exception.

Yet I kind of like Lady Gaga's stuff.
I really don't belong on the Escapist...

They have some songs that I really like a lot, and they have a lot of songs that suck or just aren't even songs. They are hit or miss but the ones that hit hit pretty damn hard!

I like them, they aren't the greatest band in the world, but they aren't completely shit either. Don't really find their new album to have that much replay value for me though.
