Well, I quit smoking about 9 months ago, but when I was still a smoker I had no problem living with myself. For that matter, I don't have much of a problem being around smokers now - I swore I'd never become one of those near-militant 'ex-smokers' who sermonize about the evil of a vice they once indulged in themselves... I don't like being a hypocrite.
The only thing that bothered me about smoking was the taste in my mouth after a particularly hard night of smoking and drinking, and the horrid smell of cold smoke on my clothes after a night out.
(By the way, I didn't have a sudden epiphany that made me quit, I canned the habit because my oesophagus was being torn to shreds by extreme acid reflux.)
Don't remember the first time I tried a cigarette, it's been over 10 years.
A cigar, though... that's different. Yes, it's about as bad (albeit for your parotid glands, not your lungs), but that's really more of a social thing. Mind you, I haven't had any of these since I quit, either, but I can see myself having one to celebrate a very special occasion (like graduation from university, friend's wedding, birth of a child etc). When you're smoking a good cigar it's really all about the unique and distinguished taste, and I definitely like it.
