If an iPhone battery now overheats and explodes in the service of the US armed forces, does this mean Apple Ltd. can be charged with deploying IEDs?

"This app is bound to help out a murderer before the end of 2010."
And that's gonna be Microsoft's argument against apple.

Sorry idk how to quote people but JonnWood "Oh, I dunno. Sometimes you just wing 'em, blowing an arm off or something, and then you have to hope shock and blood loss take care of them.

"

Hahaha, win. Good thing Mactavish didn't have an iphone or Modern Warfare 1 could have been a lot shorter.

It's great isn't it. The USA ban drinks and electronics on their flights and yet will still happily sell people an application to ensure that their madcap sniper spree in the streets of DC will be successful.

I want one.

This is pretty old news isn't it Funk?

Still cool though, Apple is helping in the war on terror. What do you think of THAT Microsoft? Eh?
I dunno if it's for real, but one of the "Join The Army" adverts over here features a guy flying a UAV. WITH AN XBOX 360 CONTROLLER
But Microsoft's K/D spread is so much better (Xbox 360 systems are not used by the military
so they don't fear the RRoD)
I've seen that! It's propaganda to the max. Alright Microsoft is helping this war. But it hasn't got a kill count as high as Apple.

Human right bashing aside, that seems to be a really convenient app to have in modern warfare. I bet you this is gonna blow up big on the next NRA contest/meeting

It be awesome if after a kill the phone said "Would you like twitter about this kill" and you can click yes or no.

I doubt a phone application beats years of training and experience. Does sound as a cool thing to have on your phone if you're a hunter or something.
nonetheless it helps..

I'm all for more efficiently killing THE TERRORISTS, but an iPhone app? Well, okay. Anyone got the number for Artillery Barrages 'R Us?

Still waiting for the iPhone app that'll let you microwave a burrito. That would be very cool to have in a combat zone.

Think about it:
Everyone can get it.
So that means any random Terrorist asshole can download that shit up and perform a perfect assassination.

Yea.
Bad idea.

But what's coming up for the army? Are drill sergeants going to be using 'I am T Pain'?
Just because you have a calculator doesn't mean you can do Algerbra. You're right that an amateur with some proficiency in a sniper rifle could get it rigged up and find some use, but not anyone. They would have to be able to at least understand how the figures apply. Plus they don't exactly have surpluses of iPhones down there, at least I think so. I don't want you to be wrong just because of my extreme paranoia... _>

Apple should probably be careful. I wouldn't be surprised if the Taliban target them now lol. That's the problem with helping to win the war on terror. The terror notices you...
Nah, the Taliban's got Verizon, so all they can get is the BlackBerry.
With more national coverage, ironically. No wonder the US Military is protecting only the cities, where the only coverage occurs for AT&T and Iphones...
OT:Speaking as an avid rifelman myself, there is no way I would put my dependance on that pos socalled phone and its software. Any sniper worth his training needs one thing, and one thing only: his spotter. If Apple has any serious thoughts that this gimmick could actually become standardly implemented, then I know those fools are smoking too much.
Show me a computer program that can do better sniping than a human, and I will show you at least one way to defeat it. Never forget: GIGO.

I'm fairly sure they actually do use 360 controllers to fly the UAVs.
They do. I remember a documentary saying that the US and UK armed forces use them because it saves them having to develop their own controller to do exactly the same thing.

Cool idea for an ap.

When your shot's over 100 meters, it's going to have a lot of calculations involved. Even then, it has as much to do with faith as it does with the science.

The world record is held by a .408 calibre distanced something nearing 2 km from one side of a valley to another. The problem with that kind of shot is they had few indicators of wind speed in the airspace over the centre of the valley along the bullet's flight path.

Ultimately, it was the first dust clouds kicked up by an approaching sandstorm that let the sniper team take the shot.
