As a South Yorkshire lad (Barnsley) I can tell you that the snow here is deep. Up in the area I'm at we've got (I'd estimate)3ft of snow around us. Getting the door open this morning was a nightmare and we're constantly getting snowed in.HellsingerAngel said:My girlfriend lives all the way over in South Yorkshire and she has been cuddling up with a blanket and talking to me when I'm awake. Aisde from that I think it's coursework, coursework, coursework until the Xbox 360 I sent her as a replacement arrives on Thrusday (hopefully) and she can game a little bit.
Though I usually make fun of you Brits for freaking out over snow (I'm Canadian, eh!) this is kinda serious. A lot of places are getting feet (WHOLE FEET!) of snow and that's bad when you don't have proper winter gear, as most Brits don't. Hope you guys can survive. Don't be pusses like Toronto and call in the army.![]()

Yeah, it is really bad here. I'm in Sheffield. I don't think we have quite 3 ft here, but atleast 30cm. Most likely more. Busses have stopped, a lot of things shut etc. It's crazy. Admittedly we have got quite a lot, but you would have thought they'd be more prepared for this now.Sovvolf said:As a South Yorkshire lad (Barnsley) I can tell you that the snow here is deep. So my day today is going to spent reading my book (The Colour of Magic)and maybe jumping around the internet. Drinking hot chocolate, eating warm hearty meals while sitting in front of the fireplace with the dog.
Though lets face it, the media will milk the shit out of this. I can already see the ad in my head for the Channel 4 documentary, where they make it sound like the apocalypse was upon us. Getting some sad bastards on T.V to tell us how their lives were ruined because it snowed.thylasos said:For everyone complaining that other countries just carry on, to be fair they get snow more regularly and in greater quantities. I lived in St. Peterburg (Санкт петербургlast year, and I got along fine, with utterly no disruption through roughly five months of this sort of weather, as did the transport systems
Certainly there's an element of hysteria, but it simply isn't economically worthwhile for our government or businesses to invest in proper snow-clearing equipment, and it gives reporters an excuse not to do their jobs properly for a few days.
Also: uni cancelled today, since lecturers can't get in. Score. One more day to do translations.
I live up at the higher end of Barnsley (I think area I live it is the highest point) so we must have gathered quite a lot of snow. Its up to your knees in some places up here and at the worse parts its about waist deep... Given that I'm about 5'11-6ft, I'd say that's pretty deep. Adding to the fact that its still dropping heavily... Well.. Doesn't look good.Akihiko said:Yeah, it is really bad here. I'm in Sheffield. I don't think we have quite 3 ft here, but atleast 30cm.
