You will probably get an 80gb. I know losing the BC sucks, but there is not much of a point to re buying your whole library or even part of it just so you can pay to play online and get hardware that has a horrific reputation for crapping out.

today, my PS3 died.

yup, I was pissed off. Although the customer service helpline were very effecient and helpful, this doesn't prevent the fact that replacing my warranty-void 60 gb PS3 will cost £140. So, this got me thinking: would it be worth getting an Xbox 360 instead?

Previously, this was unthinkable for me - I often prided myself for being a hardcore PS3 fanboy. BUT being put in the situation that I'm in has infact made me quite reluctant to buy another PS3, since the death my current one was through no fault of my own.

Then again, getting a 360 would mean replacing all my games, including a full band set for Guitar Hero... which, of course, would cost a small fortune, quite easily more than the 360 itself. On top of that, I'm not exactly sure how many hidden costs there are with the 360, though I know they do exist...

So! Escapists! I've decided to get your opinion on this matter - which do you think is best, fellow nerds?

oh, and of course...

[HEADING=1]FLAME WARS ARE UNWELCOME HERE![/HEADING]
even though their rather likely.... still! any fanboyism will be reported. Please only give mature and valid opinions!

edit: also, does anyone know what replacement PS3 they give? Do they give the exact same model as your current PS3, or whatever is available? Cause I would like to have backwards compatability which my dead PS3 does (sorry, did) have...
Just replace it.

PS: You think you had it bad? My PS3 died a month ago. I send it up to customer service, I get it back with a piece of paper wich reads; replaced. I hook it up and it's the same one...........still broken. I send it back again, they give me a phonecall saying it works fine. They send it back and guess what? Still broken.

They would most likely replace it with the newest PS3 they have which means no backwards compatibility for you. To be honest I had the same problem but in reverse, my 360 died so I decided to buy a PS3 instead of replacing it. I would be far more worried about a 360 dying than a new PS3 dying.

Yeah just replace it. $140 is nothing compared to how much you would be spending to replace your collection (depending on the size of course, but by your description it's quite large). Plus PS3's don't have as many hardware issues as do 360's.

But then again it's your money so it's your decision.

Given that situation, I would spend the money on a Wii. However, I'm a mostly PC gamer and the PS3 and 360 exclusives don't appeal to me, whereas almost every game I've played on the Wii does.

Replace the PS3, it's cheaper than a brand new 360, and it's not worth replacing all games, especially not a full set of Guitar Hero peripherals.

This happened to a friend of mine with his PS3, and after customer service told him his warranty ran out, he kicked up a huge fuss, saying how he'd rather go to Xbox than buy another PS3 and so on. So they sent him a brand new PS3.. Try this.

In my personal pan pizza opinion, id have to say get the PS3 fixed. Yea the 360 is nice, but if youve already invested so much into your previous PS3 then just getting new EVERYTHING to satisfy the same gaming needs would cost way more.

In short, get the new PS3 dude.

How'd it break? YLOD? or stop reading disks? They basically just fix yours and send you back the same one if it's for those reasons. I would just pay to get it fix since it would cost more to replace all of your games.

You'd probably be better off just going with the replacement PS3, but I don't know what you'll get from them. It could be another 60gb, or it could be one with no backwards compatibility (which would really suck if you don't have a PS2). I bought myself a 360 a couple months back, and to be completely honest I play my boyfriend's PS3 way more often. But I also don't have a whole hell of a lot of money to get any new games.

Either way, if you already have everything for PS3 it'll be much simpler and cheaper in the long run to stick with PS3.

360's are good but having to sell and then buy games in my opinion is just to time consuming. I would just get a new PS3 and take good care of it.

I have never owned a PS3, but I have played one before, and I found the experience quite enjoyable.

It really depends on what games you play. If you like online games, and think it's worth getting a 360 for, xbox LIVE really can't be beat. If you prefer offline games or if you play Guitar Hero/Rock Band a lot, I'd just shell out the cash for a new PS3.

PS3 however i have found it very easy to repair a 360. mine has had 3 ring of death twice and it's going. however it has a prone to meltdowns and surges due to my jerry rigging. I have yet to repair a PS3 succesfully as the components i use to repair shorten to life span massively each time i fix something.eg. repaired the ps3. two weeks later it overheated and caught on fire.

I would replace the PS3 as you have the games and consider investing in a arcade 360 if you ever desire to have one and upgrade the hardrive in the future.

If you don't want to trade in your PS3 games to try to get some 360 ones, you're better off just getting a new one.
