I love anime and manga. They are the reason that after I'm done with spanish in school I will start to learn japanese.

Why should I never say that to a Japanese teacher? I have already done so once xD, this summer I was in Tokyo on a three week course to learn the very basics of Japanese.

I don't know, as a rather dedicated fan of the medium, I can't help but picture the most vocal part of the anime community who all seem to be obnoxious Narutards and big three fans, so in public, I openly deny that I'm a fan of anime/manga. I'm one of those NO ONE MUST KNOW MY HORRIBLE SECRET classifications of anime fans, because we have a horrible public image.

Indeed, I can understand the fear of association with those types of people. But if someone judges you on that association then they aren't worth talking to. You respect a person for who they are, not their stereotype.

For now. I'd be willing to say it's a growing fanbase, due to the fact that pretty much anyone on the internet who's seen it goes on about how amazing it is. It's kind of interesting to think of a series taking 20+ years before it really develops a western fanbase, though.

Well, honestly I don't think it's really that surprising for a series that hasn't gotten a western release at all to only get popular now given the development of the Internet. I mean streaming services haven't been around that long and then factor in that you need a fan-sub to watch it if you don't speak Japanese and yeah....it took some time, but it's hopefully getting there. And without a doubt it really deserves it given for instance how easily it shot down my previous favourite STS9 from the throne of space operas....

The hobbyist fansubbers who have subbed LoGH with the highest dedication and quality themselves took years to complete it - the final episode of the second Gaiden series was released in September 2010. The first season of the main series had been completed in 2003.

I think its alright, I just recently watched Evangelion because its apparently the Citizen Kane of anime and thought I should give it a try, and it turned out good I liked it except the last two episodes that were pants on head retarded and didn't have anything to do with giant robots.

In all seriousness though, I prefer reading Manga to watching anime. Then again, I like reading a lot. That and I usually don't have as much time to pop in on 30 minute increments as I do to carry around a book/laptop and read a page or two. Doesn't mean I don't like the medium; but I can list more manga that I've read than anime I've seen.

As far as favorite series I've seen, those would be Outlaw Star, Madoka Magica, Dragon Ball Z (Sheer nostalgia there), Yu Yu Hakusho and Zoids.

I like some anime but I'm not massively into it. I wouldn't call myself an anime "fan" because it doesn't offer anything I don't get out of other mediums; I like the same kinda stories in anime that I do in games, books, films or western TV shows.

I'm not normally into shonen fight series, with a few exceptions. I mostly like really slow, dark stuff like Monster, Serial Experiments Lain, Jin-Roh or, to a lesser extent, Ghost in the Shell.

The last thing I watched was Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was OK. I didn't love it as much as the fans or hate it as much as the detractors. It was entertaining enough.

I have the ability to now and have a site I can go to but I've just lost interest. Then again I lose interest in many things when I get in a depression. Anyway the problem before was that many of the sites require things like Adobe and I have an Ipod Touch 3rd Gen so it was impossible for me to watch anything but YouTube. Gogoanime is always a good one and AnimeFreak.TV is also good. The one I mainly watched that had everything and was amazing was AnimeTomb, but I think the government got to them. They had every single Shakugan no Shana series and a bunch of other really obscure ones. Another awesome part about it was that for the movies they were split into parts and you could have them all buffer at the same time for the best results. They also didn't have many ads everywhere like how GoGoAnime does.

Its comes off very cliche to me. Those big ones like Bleach, Naruto, and Soul Eater make me cringe when I watch them. But I do have those ones that reach out to rally interesting concepts that actually keep me engaged to sit through an entire series. Overall not a big fan but here is a list of my only favorites:

-Trigun: From the deep morals of pacifism and overall fun characters (Vash, Vash, and Vash), this one is probably my most favorite. It also gets a plus for being short.
-Cowboy Bebop: Its just good in general.
-Hellsing Ultimate: The concept of there being nothing but antagonists is really refreshing to see. Voice acting is also phenomenal.
-Persona 4 The Animation: Pretty much Persona 4's story in show format, and it worked.
-Dragon Ball: Much more organized, well written, and heartfelt then Z. (No worries, Z holds a special place in my heart)
-Deadman Wonderland: Wow, whose idea was this?! Cause its genius!
-Fairy Tail: Characters are just pure fun and never come off as boarder-line annoying. Plus the pallet they use is beautiful.

I don't like anime for the same reason I have such a hard time getting into JRPGs. They are just not westernized and don't feel right. I have played a few that I like and I'm sure there are a few Animes out there I would like but can't be bothered to care at all.

I watched an anime once. I spent 20 min trying to figure out who the bad guy was. I still don't know why they where fighting. Something about a reaper spirit and water being diffident form Ice in some way. Then they where flying but they where walking, then something else happened then it ended.

Holy crap, why did it take me to read it out to realize that Hellsing truly had only antagonists? It's one of the main reasons I liked it, along with its ability to revel in its sheer absurdity and silliness.

I started watching anime at 15 with one of the saddest movies in history of Japan, Grave of the Fireflies. And after that moved on to Bleach and the rest :x. And now I watch 15+ airing shows at the same time.

So yeah, anime's a big thing for me. I've been watching for about a year and just started again after a short break, I'm trying hard to get through Cromartie (don't know why it's so hard to watch, I love it to bits) and I have Evangelion on the side too, which is great fun so far.

Oh, and I just got Denpa Onna to Seishin Otoko, which looks like fun. I hope it doesn't fall apart like Index, because I'm getting a very "Index" vibe from it. It also gives me vibes of the terrible ecchi shows that Katou Tatsuya makes music for. Not sure why.
