I'm participating because I just don't have any money, and I already owe my friend money. I would vastly prefer to not be participating, as this would mean I actually have money.

Huh. This is the first I've heard of Black March. Thing is, I bought a game yesterday, March 1st. I think that disqualifies me from participating or something. Also, I read that page and it seems like it was made by 14-year-olds. Don't see this as being all that usefull.

Probably will, but not willingly. No new games during Exam time.

Also... There's a bunch ofstuff like comic series and TV series that I want to support by buying stuff from... Doesn't really help me to not buy them.

Wow, a protest that I have a choice to get invloved in instead of having it forced upon me by basement dwellers in Guy Fawkes masks. How nice to have a choice to do it...even though I won't because this is pointless.

How did you get an image reflecting the effectiveness of the ME3 protest so fast?

You know if this was ANY other month of the year I would do it. But ME3, SH: Downpour and RE:RC come out this month - I already have pre-orders and I'm a whore for pretty much all those franchises. But if it makes you feel any better I promise to only go to the dollar theater this month. Oh and can I still go to the theatre with the plays and stuff in it or is that out of the question too?

Kind of. Yeah. Didn't plan to buy any games in march anyways considering BioWare convinced me to not buy ME3, haven't been in cinema for more than 4 years, music I buy is usually directly from artists since they often don't even have contracts with publishers... I can safely say I do participate unknowingly?

An economic protest meant to send a message to the backers of SOPA/PIPA/PCIPA/other censorship bills that are heavily backed by the entertainment industry.

I'm participating, although more out of necessity than a political statement.

By the way, if you want to say "I will, except for Mass Effect 3", please don't even bother. You're not participating, end of.
**reads**

This is SO not going to work.

First of all... yeah, ME3.

Secondly, a mass protest isn't going to get the job done. Why? Because not enough people know about this. This is the first I've heard of this, and I actually pay attention. The thousand or so people who actually remember to do this (and stick to it) won't even make a tiny dent in the profit margins.

Thirdly - if you want an effective protest, then we already have that - Wikipedia and Google (and others) just need to pick another protest day. When Wikipedia goes down AGAIN, and people learn that Congress it at it again, they will be pissed. That one protest worked better than any other protest in decades - and doing it again, with more sites, will only make the message stronger.

This March thing is weak compared to the Wiki blackout. Stick with what we know works - make it bigger, sure. More sites = more attention.

Attempting to boycott randomly for a month is a bad protest - it won't work. Because no one will actually notice us doing it.

Not my entertainment! NO! ANYTHING BUT THAT! Take my money, my health, my job, my family, but NOT MY VIDYAGAMES!

Seriously though, I haven't bought a video game or went to see a movie in two months.

Where's MY parade man?

Eh, wasn't planning on investing in new media this month anyway. So... count me in... I guess?

Listen, I've got this vegetable stuck behind one of my molars, I think it's a bit of onion. It's driving me absolutely nuts, and your thread isn't helping the cause here. If you want to remove a vegetable from your teeth, you need to pluck it out, what good is protesting? I'm supposed to just sit here and complain until a dentist comes to my aid, terrible idea dude, horrible horrible idea.

I'll use a toothpick thank you very much.
I like that analogy. Makes me wanna grab one of my rifles and shoot everyone who I deem a filthy rich scoundrel. Also, anyone who votes Democrat or Republican.
Seems like a perfectly reasonable solution to me.

Honestly, I've been considering boycotting everything produced or published by known SOPA supporters permanently (or at least until they stop supporting it) ever since it was called PROTECT-IP and I heard about it last year. It's harsh, but a boycott with an expiration date isn't going to prove anything, besides how many people can't even be bothered to postpone a planned purchase for that long (read: just about everyone in this thread so far -- seriously, is Mass Effect your life or something?)

I'm not going to refrain from buying anything from independents, though. In fact, I plan to use this month as an opportunity to buy all the indie stuff I've been meaning to get. Songs I heard on YouTube that are available to buy on Bandcamp or Soundcloud, indie games on Steam (read: Dear Esther), that sort of thing. That seems like it would send a clearer message than just not buying anything.

Oh, and for the record, Hasbro is not a SOPA sponsor. You can go ahead and watch Ponies; nobody's gonna complain.

You have no idea how surprising that is to me.
None.

Considering that the first day I can buy my books for my return to college is March 8, the bookstore being closed on April 1, and the quarter beginning April 2, I'm gonna have to say...not a chance. As for recreational books/games, I hardly get those anyway, and even then, I have more than enough to last me a few months.

No...

It sounds to me like the guy who turns up at the events that his ex is going to... a 'silent protest' in which he thinks he is 'making a statement', but only ends up hurting himself more as he watches from the shadows as she flaunts with every guy in the room, finally bagging a dude and being obviously all over him... What is aiming a gun at your own feet going to acomplish?

Anyway... happy fasting, I will be happy indulging in whatever I feel like buying, as usual...

It won't work. Two reasons why. Firstly, the majority of the people who claim to be participating will go back on it. Secondly, the media corps will just blame it on piracy and carry on as usual.
Indeed.

Though I keep getting shouted down on this.

This will fail, not because of people backing out or media blaming piracry or anything. It will fail because too many people just won't bother because "it'll be like Modern Warfare 2". Too many idiots failing to realize that skeptisim get's them nowhere while actually doing something does.

I'm in, I don't think it'll work but I'll try anyway, which is far more than half the idiots here can say.

I'm probably not going to support this because it really is impotent. It will have the opposite reaction and cause the companies to panic even more.
