Whatever, just wash your hands.
Primary's over and done with, I don't want to change your mind. We'll make the best of what we have and keep pushing harder for progressive policy. Like I said, we got some concessions out of him. It's a start.
I still wanted Warren to win, but, I don't think Biden's policy positions are as bad or business as usual as a lot of the left seems to assume they are.

That I have a choice between supporting someone I might want against two people I definitely don't. If I vote for something I don't want, I empower it to continue. I won't do that.
That doesn't answer the question. You've stated your why, but you haven't told me what the evidence is that this could realistically beat Trump in the general election.

How do you think you'd ever get major things to change like healthcare, the tax code, campaign finance, etc.? You think anyone from the current 2 parties is actually going to change any of those things in any significant way? We're literally holding congressional hearings about whether you can repair fucking computers, it's the stupidest damn shit. And, it's not just the president, you gotta to vote both the parties out of congress too so you can actually legislate. Do I think the public is smart enough to do that? Hell no. My vote means nothing in the presidential election anyway, I live in Illinois, it's a blue state, the blue candidate is going to get the electoral votes.
So you're doing it solely out of vanity. Glad we got that cleared up.

I just need to understand something here after mulling this over for a while.

So, the white non-racist republican who supports Trump and others like him is a bad person for being supportive of racism because that benefits them more in the way of tax cuts and deregulation.

How, then, can we say the people who wave away Biden's racism because his policies would be less terrible for them (so in a sense benefits them more) are not similarly condemnable.

Is it because it's their race that he was being racist towards so they get to pick and choose who to condemn and who to forgive (that's complete BS imo)? If so what about all the white people who also do this? Are they subservient to the black folks to whom they are allies in this or what? This all looks a bit too organic and reflexive for me to buy that they put this much consideration in this. I know if Bernie was caught doing something a tenth as bad they'd never let it go.

To me this looks all just the same as with the sexual assault allegations. If it's politically expedient we care about this thing that makes you a Bad Person(tm), if it's not we forgive like open minded people.

I'm still kind of hoping Warren dark-horses at the convention somehow. The talk of Biden dropping or getting dropped got my hopes up.

Half of that doesn't go nearly far enough and I don't believe for a second he'll do any of it. That's the problem, no trust. There's no reason to trust Biden, we have over 50 years of him causing half those problems he says he's going to fix now because it'll get him elected.

The Green party is the most popular party with a candidate I like. They are the most likely to win among my choices.

You've already told me why you're doing this. But what is the evidence this will actually work in the 2020 election? Where are you getting your confidence that your protest vote will be part of a surprise upset?

That's not evidence there will be an upset. What is the evidence that protest voting will succeed in this presidential election cycle where it has failed every other time?
I'll turn it around on you. Why do you care so much if I vote Green? Surely in a free country I can vote for whomever I want and encourage people to vote for the candidate I think is best? And in doing so, maximize my chances of victory.

What if you voted Green too? You've said that neither Biden nor Trump represent you, why wouldn't you vote for someone who did? If it's not the Green party, which party actually represents you the best?

It's not going to happen, he was have to be as stupid as someone like crimson says he is to drop out at this point. But it is possible Warren might be his VP, he has dedicated himself to having a female VP. Although, as much as I like Warren, I would prefer the ticket be balanced with someone younger also, who has less of a chance of just dropping dead.

First, I'll take this as admission that you have no evidence that this will work and the protest vote is entirely out of vanity.

Second, none of the parties currently represent me. But I'll vote for Biden to stop the bleeding we're currently experiencing. The stakes are higher than my ego and I have to accept that this time around I didn't get the candidate I wanted. That said, the left wing has been able to extract policy concessions from Biden. Higher minimum wage, abolish private prisons, better pay for teachers, etc. That's still a better deal than I'm getting from the Republicans. And until we have campaign finance reform that makes all campaigns publicly funded and overturns Citizens United, the 2-party shit is what we have to work with for now. As much as I dislike incrementalism, it still offers a better deal than Trumpism.

And I've confirmed that you don't actually pay attention to politics and are insulated from your decisions if you consider Trump an existential threat but Biden not. So you can take your petty insults and shove it.

If I wanted more confirmation that the 'vote blue no matter who' crowd has no grip on reality and aren't worth talking to, I have it here. Go ahead and vote against your own best interests and then be surprised when you get exactly what you vote for.

Warren is a sellout and Biden's looking at the most bland centrist VP to let you know he doesn't give two shits about progressive values and if he's elected, will absolutely shaft you because that's what Dems do. But you keep running to them to get abused and beaten just to tell other people 'no no, he's actually really nice, I just fell down some stairs'. Don't ever condescend to me, especially when I was straightforward and honestly answering your leading stupid questions. You don't like that I won't vote for Biden, cool. I don't like that you will vote for him. I managed to talk to you without being insulting about it.

How is voting the only way that can actually fix anything a protest vote? It's both as simple and as hard as getting the majority of the public to vote out the current parties. The fact that a major election issue in the 21st century was over whether 2 guys/girls could get married even though they're already living together and doing want they want is beyond ridiculous. And, again, unless you're actually in a swing state, your vote really doesn't matter, I could write in Deez Nuts and it would make no difference.

Never said they weren't. The implication is that making choices out of vanity is bad decision making.

I do live in a swing state, thank you. And again, the assumption that voting a third party candidate is the only thing that can fix this is speculative at best. There are 2 root problems in America's politics: too much money in politics and not enough comprehensive education in the citizenry. The first of which is the most difficult to deal with as the donor class are so thoroughly entrenched into the system at this point. It's going to take a constitutional amendment to make real progress on that one.

The second problem is a long-term one that's going to take years to start seeing real results. But by the same token, this is why I vote in the state and local elections too. This is the best opportunity to see progressive policies into the platforms and debates. Still, if you do the math, this is really a race between Biden and Trump. No other candidate has the media traction to mount anything more than a spoiler candidacy and the donor class aren't about to diversify the field.

Ultimately, your vote is still your choice. But given the stakes of this year's election, don't be surprised if people are unimpressed by efforts to appear above it all.

Then yes, to the general audience.

Biden is a serial liar, he had to drop out of a previous campaign for plagiarism. It's not a question of Trump over Biden, it's a question of why Biden ever. He's not going to help you, things will continue to get worse as it has for decades, Biden is not an alternative to Trump.

And then when your candidate finally (maybe) wins the candidacy amidst the usual rancour and bitterness in an election to come, the centre-left will do the same to that candidate: burn him or her down and claim vindication in return. Because that's just the way the left works at the moment. And all along, the right will just laugh and run the country.
They were going to do that anyway.

I'm not making a choice out of vanity. Regardless if it's something important like an election or unimportant like a video game, I play the fucking objective. I'm not gong to vote for a 3rd party to appear "above it all", I'll vote that way because that's how we win. If you get a majority of congress that is 3rd party and not in anyone's pockets, you at least have a chance of actually passing good legislature. There's literally no stakes in my state for the presidential election. Do you think Trump has any chance whatsoever to win Illinois?

Consider that if you need to give yourself an excuse not to give a shit about the outcome of your vote, that doesn't inspire confidence in your argument. You play the objective. What does that mean in this context? I ask that without irony. What does that actually mean in terms of the 2020 presidential election?

I would love to believe that voting third party is a silver bullet to our electoral problems. But it isn't. We face a complicated problem and no amount of, "third way," fluff is going to change that. Like I said, if you want real change, a good place to start is in the down-ticket elections on the state and local level. That's where ideas become mainstreamed into party platforms, where the new generations of lawmakers and administrators cut their teeth. If all you focus on is trying to get a 3rd party win in Congress and the White House, you're going to be missing that target for a long time.
