Finally beat it and all I can say is wow. Fun all the way through and the changes were welcomed. Even on easy the game can be freaking brutal and the attention to detail is nice.

Overall it feels like Valve quality and that can come from only pure talent. Hope to see more from these guys in the future.

There are a few nitpicks though, like I wish the shadowing was a bit better, the immersion is broken a bit when you shine a flashlight on a scientist or security guard and there's no shadow on the wall.
Try playing around with the graphics settings. I have been getting shadows from NPCs with the flashlight. I was messing around with it while waiting on dialog before getting into the test chamber and there were most definitely shadows.

I doubt even Valve can compete with what these guys did.
Uuh... why?

OT: It's good. Very good. Some of the additional music is oddly melancholy, however.

Well Half-Life was supposed be the first FPS that was half way grounded in reality, so it makes sense to treat the destruction and invasion as a little more macabre than most other games would.

That's the thing about Black Mesa. I don't see it as a mod. I see it as a full fucking game.

It's been added for the mod though, hasn't it? Doesn't really fit, especially with the other tracks. Nor does it occur at natural times. It started playing it when I was creeping past the three tentacled fucker that smacks the walkways in the silo.

Well the other tracks are supposed to serve background to large fight scenes with Marines and Tanks. So naturally they'd be more uptempo.

It's still jarring and out of pace with the tone. I don't think that stuff works great either , but it's better than the attempts to try and make things poignant. The series has always been more unnerving and slightly creepy than it ever has sad or melancholy.

Even the end of Episode 2 has something a little creepy about it with the fade-to-black.

I honestly didn't think it was humanely possible to make the intro sequence more awesome. Something about the chaos in the beginning just set the tone the shit has officially hit the fan. The message just didn't sink in deep enough in the original.

I have been waiting for this mod for quite some time and I have to say....

This is the most fun I have had playing a first person shooter in years.

I honestly have trouble believing this mod exists, it's like something out of a dream.
The attention to detail, the game play, level design, pacing... the ART WORK!

I can't properly put it into words how great this mod is.
It is truly impressive.

I hope their team has caught valves eye.
Their work is exquisite.
They should be in charge of the Half-life series.

There is, of course, only one question worth asking about this mod.

Do the female Black Ops still have insane jiggle physics like in the original HL1?

It's so good, I would have gladly paid for it. There isn't a single thing I can say bad about it.

What did you have while you were playing HL1 and where can I get some?
Wish I could find the video, but in HL1, the Black Ops had some supreme jiggle physics.

I'm pretty sure that HL1 was the first game to ever have jigglin' boobies.

Love it, love it, love it!

I mean, I've only completed three chapters, but WOW! That mod is atmospheric as hell! Like, in Half-Life, you just kind of plod through the trashed facility in Unforeseen Consequences, like "Huh, so yeah, this sucks." But now... I mean, you really start to feel sad and scared for all your fellow employees! Like, your really want to save them! Especially that woman in the elevator, and kudos to the voice actress, because that just hit me like a sack of bricks.

The atmosphere is really terrifying as well. The first time I heard a zombie breathing, I almost shit myself. I could gush about this thing for hours, and I've only played three chapters!

I know, right?

When I first played Half Life and the elevator scene happened, I actually gave a laugh and continued on. In the new version, I stared at the screen in horror for a few seconds before I mustered the energy to go up the ladder.
