It's easy EA. Every time you make a decision, ask yourselves "Is this something that only a raging dickhole would do?" And then, when you invariably answer 'yes', do something else instead.
No no no, it's much more straight-forward than that. There's a classic episode of Seinfeld in which George (Jason Alexander) concludes that the reason his life sucks is because every natural instinct he has is completely wrong, that's why he always makes terrible decisions. As such Jerry recommends that if he just does the opposite of whatever his natural instinct is it must therefor be the right choice. George takes this advice and immediately sees effective results.
Ergo: in order for EA to stop being perceived as the bad-guys, they simply need to do the exact opposite of whatever their natural instinct is.
But praise where praise is due, EA. Admitting that you have a problem is the first step.
Well this isn't exactly their first time on this first step, though...remember waaaaaaay back in the day of the Online Pass? The bullshit "Pay an extra $10 so you can use your used game's online functionality!" deal? EA was the one that started that. And after two years of winning the "official" Worst Company in America award, they decided they wanted to change their image. As a measure of good faith they declared that none of their games moving forward would require an Online Pass purchase to play used games online. Eventually the rest of the companies followed suit.
...........but they soon realized that making quality games that people want to purchase and play - which is how a game company should make it's money - isn't nearly as effective at raising their bottom line as simply implementing heavy and aggressive monetization schemes in all their games. Which brings us to where EA is today.
But hey...at least they got rid of the Online Pass. :3
