So, gamefly has VtM: Bloodlines on sale - why haven't you played it yet?

Based on the 3 times I've tried to play that game, it's buggy and the graphics are pretty crappy. The gameplay is weak and I honestly don't have a love for Vampires that would cause me to overlook it's mediocre presentation.

I have an original copy, and I love the game. Frankly though, it bugs me that the UI is blurred out. Is there a patch for this?

Because it looks shit.

To me anyway. I'm sure it's amazing, given you have a certain taste. But it doesn't look like anything I'd enjoy. I don't like the world, I don't like the characters at a glance, the combat is apparently God awful along with every other damn mechanic...

Again, I'm sure it has some charm somewhere. It just doesn't like the charm that would charm me, if that makes sense.

Maybe I'll pick it up if it goes on sale somewhere for 99 cents. Maybe.

(Don't hate me for saying this, you did ask!)
BUT YOU HAVE TO PLAY THEASE SUPER AWSOME AMAZING GAMES OTHERWISE YOUR A HORRIBLE PERSON!

I think I'd rather play Gears of War than the original Deus ex

*silence*

YES! thats right! I said it! hahahahahahaha *runs away into the night*

That's pretty much the thing keeping me from playing the original Deus Ex. Sneaking seems impossible in it even compared to Metal Gear Solid, an older game.

Bloodlines is one of my favorite games. It is very, very good.

While the graphics may not still hold up it is the writing and the characters that make me reinstall this thing time and time again. It very good at making a believable world. You become immersed in it.

I strongly suggest any PC gamers out there who are on the fence about this offer to pick this game up.
Then patch it. Patch it a lot. It was shipped before it was finished then the studio closed but there is a dedicated fan community.
And be prepared to give it some time but in the end you won't be disappointed.

For the same reason I don't play a lot of things: I don't like to game on my PC. I don't like the mouse/keyboard setup and I have a small monitor, which makes gaming on it not very fun. I also just plain don't like the hassle of playing PC games like having to download unofficial patches to get a video game to work. Maybe I'm just unlucky but PC gaming just always seems to fuck up for me with a ton of errors and issues.

Yes, I'm aware I can fix all three of these issues with either hardware purchases or a mind-set change respectively but I don't want to spend the time/money.

Blurry? Maybe I'm used to it, but it doesn't seem blurry to me. I am not aware of anything to change the UI, but I suppose you can look through Planet-Vampire, I'm not a veteran when it comes to mods. I know there is the ResPatch that comes with the UP but that only makes the game support higher resolutions and widescreen. And it actually stretches the UI a bit but you get used to that.

I have decided, I did when you made that first post. I read that you don't see them but you know they exist but if all you do is hear about what they do they hardly make for a compelling character to me.

I mean, in Deus Ex you hear all about Bob Page through the game's lore but it's not until you actually meet the guy that he becomes a character in my eyes.
If there's enough information given to establish a personality then I'm inclined to consider them a character. An example of what I mean is, and this is minor spoiler territory for Bloodlines, the head of the Insane Asylum. You the player never meet the character themself, they're long dead, but you listen to voice logs as he records his studies on the various patients as well as see the results of his work. Through these voice logs you're given a narrative of the characters growth, you're told his motivations and given a clear sense of why he does what he does. Basic writing 101 stuff, but tenants that a large number of games ignore nonetheless.

And again this is a character that is dead and which you never meet. Another game that does similar is Portal 2 with Cave Johnson, or System Shock 2 with... well, pretty much everyone. Just because you don't meet them doesn't mean they aren't characters in of themselves.

That Bloodlines bothers to put such effort into a minor personality is what leaves me impressed. That's all I meant.

Just to be sure, you know you can just kill everyone?
Yes... yes I do. But I didn't plan on buying a generic shooter; I bought a stealth-based sci-fi adventure loosely based on Shadowrun. And yes, the game advertised its stealth focus.

Brilliant game, I've played it multiple times. Once or twice as a toreador, an aborted attempt with gangrel and the rest as malkavian. I can't stress how much i enjoy this race. Apart from the often laugh-aloud dialogue and npc reactions, the obfuscate ability is a game changer. Dementia is also useful in and out of combat and another bonus...a malkavian's abilities never violate the masquerade!

I would buy it at that price if i didn't already have it on steam.

Bit maybe another clan would be easier for a first time play. Brujah, seem popular - they are more tailored to close combat but it's not really excluding ranged. And Toreador are basically the ranged equivalent of the Brujah.
I'm a Brujah on my first run, I love going totally Matrix on everyone's ass.

I decided to focus on hand-to-hand, intimidation, ultra-speed and enhanced melee, and it's going pretty good. I guess I started lucky.
