Overwatch launched yesterday and while I certainly got a few good hours of play in, it wasn't without it's problems. Got booted three times and towards the end of my evening I ended up playing 4 "full games" of TDM since apparently the game quit looking for other players once the game I was in got to 11 players.
I think there's something fundamentally broken with some of Blizzard's servers causing this nonsense. I've seen it quite a lot too all day.

Anyway...on topic...been doing okay I guess. My biggest problem at the moment is that somehow, despite the fact that fewer people are playing now than in the Open Beta (and that those who ARE playing should have some knowledge of the game as a result, having presumably played OB), the entire community seems to have gone dumb as a brick. I mean it was pretty bad in the beta trying to get a proper team composition but in the last 24+ hours I've seen stupider things than anything I saw in the several days of beta. I'm talking four snipers plus a bastion on attack level of idiocy. And hardly anyone seems to want to play the damn objective.

And I'm REALLY hoping that everyone figures out soon that the only real counter to a Mercy is to get a Mercy yourself. Its a nightmare if I'm playing tank (because nobody wants to play tank, of course) and our only support is Lucio. You just can't deal with her rate of healing and mass res without one of your own.

My drops have mostly been garbage. I got a legendary skin for Lucio, who I barely play, and that's about all for anything really noteworthy. :-\

Despite all of that I'm racking up fairly solid amounts of kills and some really good objective kill rates so I guess that's something. Getting my fair share of "Play of the Games". Comfortably settling back in to D.Va/Tracer/McCree/Mercy/Reinhardt. With a recent side order of 76 who didn't work for me at all in beta but is now.

My winrate is horrendous though, and I'm not sure what I can do to actually get any of the teams I'm being placed with on the right track. Every time I've tried to coordinate people have whined about it ("We need a healer" "Well YOU go healer" "I can't because I'M THE ONLY TANK AND WE HAVE THREE TRACERS").

Sounds pretty much like the evening I just had. People picking Bastion on Attack...really...can we just stop this already? "It works sometimes!" Yeah, well I've yet to see it. Also it'd sure be nice if one of these mythical "tanks" actually showed up on my team for once. >.>

In other news: tried D.Va for the first time tonight...good god do I suck with her. :p

I did fine, thank you for asking!

I tend to gravitate toward characters that have durability, hyper-mobility, crowd-control, self-sustain or some combination thereof.

So Roadhog, Zarya, Tracer, Mei, Pharah.

Zarya is essentially my go-to. Any time I don't have a better idea for the map or my team doesn't have a particular hole that needs filling I go with her. It's especially good in these early days because a lot of players don't know that her shields bubbles can't be broken and shooting them just charges her weapon. So it's very easy to get fully charged and a fully charged Zarya is a fucking wrecking ball. You point at people and they melt, while you laugh at their return fire.

...

Heh. I just realised that my favourite and most played characters are the "politically correct" ones. The butch woman, the plump chick and the fat guy. Way to live up to the stereotype there Zhukov!

On the list of least surprising occurrences, I rank your asinine comment somewhere between the movement of the tides and needing to take a shit first thing in the morning.

Ouch. Reminds me of the beta where I had 4 widows trying to push a payload.

Right now, I'm mainly having trouble keeping my team on the point, whether it's a payload or a king of the hill point, instead of chasing after kills.

The game doesn't care if you kill that tracer, the game cares if you're on point when the 4 other players show up to wreck us.
I had a game like that last night. We were on offense on the Eqypt map. We already took the first point and were pushing for the 2nd. We managed to get the first one without the need for a tank, however the 2nd point is a lot trickier. We bash our heads against the wall, the entire time I'm - as Mercy - asking someone to switch to a tank so I can keep them pumped full of juice. A Reinhardt would have been perfect: a nice big siege-shield to just march on in while everyone behind him is shooting. Standard operating procedure, right? Nope, we've got two Widows, a Bastion, a Phara, a Reaper, and me as Mercy.

Well someone's gotta be a tank for a siege like this, so I switch to Reinhardt myself. Now we have no support and so we ended up losing anyways. xP

Yeah that kinda stuff is just.........

That comment I made before about three Snipers (I dunno why I said four, I think I was adding in the Bastion, thinking 'four useless players') and a Bastion? That wasn't even an exaggeration. It was on Gibraltar.

We STARTED with one Hanzo. Then I think we got stuck a bit after the first point thanks to an opposing Bastion or Torbjorn or something. Then someone else switched to Widowmaker. And then someone else switched to Hanzo. And then someone switched to Bastion and suddenly we have no actual offensive capability. -_-

I think its a result of the "I can do X better than this guy" thinking. Like...someone sees a Sniper not taking out a Bastion or something. But rather than thinking "I'll get a Tracer or a Reaper and flank them" or "I'll get a Pharah and just saturate the whole area in rockets" they instead think "I can Snipe better than our current Sniper so I'll get one myself and deal with that enemy". And then they fail too. And someone else does the same. And...

That's how you can end up with a team of five Widowmakers. X-(

On a side note I don't know if they changed the "Play of the Game" logic but I'm seeing way, way fewer Bastion of the Games since release.

Man, i would really like to play it... But it's just too expensive. (Seriously, 60 Euros... the HELL? I mean it's a good game, but it's not THAT good)

It was pretty fun in the beta. (Games has its faults and some strange decisions by the developer, but still) I guess it is one of those games which will never get cheaper though... so i have to look out for a used copy (Wait.. that doesn't even work, bloody keys and account shit.) Ah well, playing Space Pirates and Zombies 2 then, hehe.

Well put. Funny thing is that he says stuff like that everywhere else, but the one time I make a thread for defining "badass" and "hardcore" the guy doesn't touch it. Sad times man, I was disappointed!

Say no more fam, I know exactly where this story is going. Both Egypt and hanamura have those tricky last points that are a *****. Though, props to the game they're still fun. Egypt is one of my favorite maps, even for attacking.
I really like it too, just wish I could get a team that understands that you need a HEAVY push squad to cap B.

I still see them with a regular frequency, though I do think they upped it so that - at minimum - he has to get a penta-kill in order to get Play of the Game. :p

I am in South America, so it should be worst that it has been so far, but it is quite playable. One exception was a game I was into today; during the last round of a three, the game froze and sent me to the title screen. Checking with other people in the chat, the same happened to everyone connected.

Other than that, it has been on par with the beta, although I have seen a lot more balanced games. It used to be that we could curbstomp the other team, or were trashed a lot. I am not sure if it is better matchmaking or a lot more people getting better at the game after the beta, but now it seems like balanced matches happens more often.

I'm enjoying it! I'm happy that the global play doesn't seem to lag very much, so I'm able to play with some lovely people from the Escapist when I'm not playing with my boyfriend.

I do need to ask, is anyone aware if there is some kind of option for a visual display when another character is activating their ultimate? You wouldn't know it from meeting me, but I'm kind of hard of hearing, so I'm having a little bit of trouble with some of the ultimates. It would just be helpful for me to have a subtitle option, the way L4D does it with special infected.

Confirmed: Torbjorn's my main when it comes to defense. I've heard my turret placement be described by another random player as being "nefarious." :3

I love it but oh my God after not playing for a few weeks I am so bad at this. I had such a salty night last night, but I keep playing anyway. I know it's my suckage that's making me angry, not the game.

I'm still not sure what changed in terms of balance though. I feel like Junkrat's Riptire has been nerfed somehow but I'm not sure.

Queued up with two friends, defending a point and the other 3 team members all chose Bastion. We won. But it wasn't very fun, and I felt dirty afterwards.

Aside from that, have had some great matches, although finding a balanced game seems a little random at the moment. It tends to be "stomp or get stomped", which will hopefully correct itself as the levels or matchmaking system works itself out? Maybe when ranked is added I guess?

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I snuck in a couple games during my lunch break and on Defense on Gibraltar, our team had the enemy pinned in to where they never got past their spawn point and the payload never moved. Next game (new map) it was the same for us: couldn't even get 1/3rd of the way to capping the first objective point.

My understanding is that they completely reset EVERYONE'S stats with the launch...so that means in theory we could be going up against people that have been playing since the closed beta. So yeah, I'm hoping that things will even out once every gets more games under the belts...enough to formulate a decent standing position in terms of matchmaking.

Yeah, it's probably a combination of the reset stats throwing us all into the same pool. But also some tweaks in balance not being done yet to the heroes. I'm sure Blizzard was looking at balance issues during the beta, but it's an ongoing development to try and maintain balance. Especially as players figure out effective (or over-effective strategies).

I'm not too concerned, but certainly looking forward to the game becoming "balanced" through the strength of competition via matchmaking and continued development of the game and necessary gameplay tweaks.

It certainly seems to have less health than before. I don't think I've been a part of a team that's actually been hurt by it yet. We always manage to kill it before it explodes.
Health-wise it used to be a 100 and still is. But its explosive radius seems lessened, it seems harder to deal damage with it. I'm not sure how I feel about it. At the one hand; it feels nearly impossible to use now. On the other hand, yesterday someone killed five people at once with it. I don't know man. I wonder if there's a list of patch notes. Blizzard usually is pretty good with those but I haven't seen any this time around.

Hell maybe nothing has changed and it's all in my mind. It'd be good to know.

You know, the same thing kinda applies to D.Va's self destruct. Kinda? It certainly doesn't feel as threatening as it used to.
I've noticed a lot of inconsistency with that the past couple of days though. Sometimes the damage seems like it travels through walls (I got killed when I couldn't even see the mech self-destructing) and other times I feel like I'm screwed and about to die and nothing happens.

Not really adding anything I guess... Like you, I'd like to see the patch notes just so I can stop wondering.

So after taking an hour to get my first win of the game, managed to get my First Play of The Game with D.Va on hanamura, the B objective.

used jump jets to flank a choke point at the main entrance, then Boosted my Mek into a self destruct that let the rest of the team push through.

Could be latency issues - the game reads you in a certain place, when you see yourself in another.

Kinda remember I got a lot of COD killcams where in game the enemy seemed to be walking through a torrent of bullets, but in the killcam I wasn't firing at all.
