PS+ gives you "subscription games" for no extra cost. PS+ isn't free though. It is better than XBOX Live though since XBOX Live gives you no subscription games for no extra cost. Also more ads on an internet connected XBOX, Gold account included.

As I aid to the other person, the games are not free if you have to pay to access them, not free at all.
In that respect, the OP is still better off with PS+ than with Xbox Live Gold. No freebies there (ok, there are some, but they're terrible to meh). And a 1-year subscription costs about the same for both.

To be honest, I don't think PS+ offers me any real added value, but if anyone like their offerings, all the more power to them.

You're an exception. There is a lot of people who can't play above 20MB save files or something like that.

OT: Wait until Ratchet & Clank HD comes out, then buy that. Amazing games are amazing.
You linked Metacritic.
...
I just died a little inside...

Ratchet and Clank were pretty good though.
It was to demonstrate how many people have had serious issues with Skyrim. I feel the same way otherwise about metacritic.

I didn't, don't have a plus account myself i'm far too much of a cheap bastard.

Some people do though so I was just throwing it up in the air that they have some games going for them.

Already wasted money on my old 360 with a gold account that took me months to cancel.

Ratchet and Clank maaaaaan.
There's 4 games on the PS3 (one of which is a downloadable game) and they're all amazing. They're even bringing the original trilogy to PS3 in a HD collection, so that's good too.

Get the inFamous and Uncharted games. I guess you could try Journey, I'm nowhere near as hot on it as most other people are. Once you get past the presentation (which is admittedly beautiful) its not got a particularly original or interesting theme.

To actually recommend something 100% free, I would have to say PlayStation Home. It's basically an MMOG with some free mini-games. It's a pretty nice looking place. I don't actually talk to anyone there, but when I first got my PS3 I did not have any games for it so I squeezed all of the free entertainment I could possibly get out of the PS3 before I finally got some games. I only went there out of complete boredom though, so I am not saying it's the best thing ever, but it's something to do until you get better stuff to do.

Already got it on Pc ;D

I've downloaded the demo of inFAMOUS, so I'll play it later and see what I think!

I'll probably get Skyrim on PC, since it's got all those lovely mods there!

I hear that they are going to make the Killzone3 multiplayer free to play soon ( meaning: you won't have to buy the disc game but you can download the MP section off of PSN ), up until a certain level, if you like it you can then buy full access to the multiplayer portion for about 15-20 bucks or something like that.

I don't know any other free to play things on the PSN ( or SEN.. ? ) besides Playstation Home ( which is nice if you like minigames and classics such as chess or pool or such, I know I spent a few hours playing chess with people on there, and checkers ), and there are also a lot of demo's on the network, I would say, download a lot of them and see if you like them, that is what I did when I first bought my PS3 and I only had Motorstorm and Resistance to keep me entertained for a few weeks.

Although there are a few games I could recommend you, I'll just name one of them: WipEout HD, if you like fast hover racing that is. Might take a while to get used to the controls, but once you do, damn it's fun.

If you like Zelda you should get 3D Dot Heroes.

If you like SRPGs you should get Disgaea 4

If you like sci-fi 3rd Person action/shooters you should get Vanquish & WarHammer 40k: Space Marine

If you like (J)RPGs you should get Valkria Chronicles

If you like good games you should get The Ico & SotC Collection HD

If you like weird games you should get Katamari Forever

If you like WRPGs you should get Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning & TES5: Skyrim

If you like story over game play you should get Heavy Rain

If you like pretty but short FPSs you should get Killzone 2/3

If you like 3rd Person action/shooters with an arcade twist you should get Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon

If you like racing games that are a bit arcade you should get Blur

Try Zuma and Trash Panic. They are hard and extremely addictive. They will be always there in your hard disk whenever you want to play a fun puzzle game.

From the big exclusive PS3 releases don't miss Demon's Souls. There isn't any game like this one.

The Ico + Shadow of The Colossus HD collection is amazing. SOTC could easily pass as a PS3 game it looks so great and Ico looks good as well, considering it was made in 2001. I'm not as big a fan of Ico as a lot of people are, but it an interesting game, think of it like a side-dish to SOTC's main course.

Also, Littlebigplanet/Littlebigplanet 2 are great value for money if you can get the hang of the create mode, which is really easy to use. After that the game is pretty much limitless in terms of what you can do/make and how long the game will last you.

Sorry to hear that friend. PS3 gets passed up on a lot of stuff these days, not to mention the PS3 version of Skyrim is broken beyond repair because of the architecture of the console. Here's hoping there's a good "HD collection" coming out for you that'll make it worth it.
Lolwat.

I play Skyrim just fine on my ps3.
You not heard about how broken it is? Here's the problem, normally the game stops rendering stuff after you get far enough away from it. But the PS3 version NEVER stops rendering things, no matter how far away you are from it. So after about 2 or 3 hours, you're playing a slideshow.

As long as the game runs fine for him, should he be bothered by problems that plague other people?

I thought the problem was with Skyrim meticulous keeping track of every item you moved, dropped or interacted with in its memory. Not as much rendering the items, but keeping them in memory?
Not too sure about this, thought I read that somewhere.

It's that too, but that's still the same issue. The game continuously keeps track of everything, regardless of how far you are from it.

Demon/Dark Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous, Ratchet and Clank, Metal Gear Solid, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus, Jak and Daxter, God of War, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, Flower, Journey, Stardust HD and way way more excellent exclusives exist on the PS3. It's a fantastic machine, enjoy it.

You speak a lot for someone who doesn't have much worth saying.

What the PS+ people mean when they say "free games" is "we pay a subscription fee like XBLA, but instead of just being allowed to play games online, we also get games and items to download and keep every month for no further charge". Which really, for those of us who have no interest in playing online anyway, ends up being a pretty good deal. I haven't once regretted signing up, and have scored quite a few games and cool downloadables. Well over $400 worth at least, which is far more then the $50 I paid. Plus, things getting Journey one week before everyone else means we can actually help developers by generating extra hype and interest in the a worthy game so the true launch would be even better.

Xbox would've seriously been better these days as it's hardware is pretty damn close to the PS3, and it's got more choice and a better service. But since you did get a PS3 I can give you some exclusives you MUST buy if I can remember them.

Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars
- this game is the shizz for mindless car-battling fun with friends. It's like car-football (soccer) with boosters and a burning desire to slam into your opponents.

LBP2
- A game you must get. No questions asked.

MGS HD collection?
- can get it on PS3, comes out on Xbox too.

There was another game where you play a tetris-type game, but competitively. It's hilarious with a friend.

I base these recommendations off of games I've played on 2 of my friends' PS3s. But for the two games you bought a PS3 with, why didn't you just get a PC?

I see no reason for someone with both consoles to go for the Xbox360 version though, as the PS3 includes Kojima's "transfarring" system, capable of interacting with a PSP and, apparently, the PsVita ( or so were the rumors, haven't heard about this yet ).

Although one might not own a PSP or Vita system at present, with an eye towards the future, I think that the ps3 version would be the better choice.
