If you join the PSN network you get access to free games every month. Some of them are busted old things, but there are a few jems.
I take it they are "truly outrageous"?

Indeed, they are truly, truly, outrageous...

MGS HD collection?
- can get it on PS3, comes out on Xbox too.
I see no reason for someone with both consoles to go for the Xbox360 version though, as the PS3 includes Kojima's "transfarring" system, capable of interacting with a PSP and, apparently, the PsVita ( or so were the rumors, haven't heard about this yet ).

Although one might not own a PSP or Vita system at present, with an eye towards the future, I think that the ps3 version would be the better choice.
From what I remember 360 doesn't include peace walker.

um, you said you got a ps3 but do you also own a 360? simply by saying that you got a ps3, pretty much everyone will only be recommending ps3 exclusives.

Sorry to hear that friend. PS3 gets passed up on a lot of stuff these days, not to mention the PS3 version of Skyrim is broken beyond repair because of the architecture of the console. Here's hoping there's a good "HD collection" coming out for you that'll make it worth it.
Lolwat.

I play Skyrim just fine on my ps3.
You not heard about how broken it is? Here's the problem, normally the game stops rendering stuff after you get far enough away from it. But the PS3 version NEVER stops rendering things, no matter how far away you are from it. So after about 2 or 3 hours, you're playing a slideshow.
Again, I play it just fine. I've got over 30 hours logged into a save file and it still runs just fine. I've got a few friends who also lack this problem.

Heavy rain and demons souls are the first two games i bought and i highly recomend both . Games i will buy and suggest are : hyperdimension neptunia and valkyrie chorinicals , assuming you like jrpgs , i heard good things from both.

It really only ops up during longer marathons from what I understand. But that would be off putting enough for me. Know I have to play my game in spurts to avoid it tearing itself apart. Especially considering I don't even like Skyrim that much.

Well then it makes a little bit more sense. I only play it in 2-3 hour sessions at most. I rarely do long marathons.

I DO play longer marathons because of my work schedule. Since I'm awake at night, I don't really have much of a sense of time since it's already dark outside when I'm playing. Six hours go by and I've gone through what would have been like a weekend of progress back in the day.

You speak a lot for someone who doesn't have much worth saying.

What the PS+ people mean when they say "free games" is "we pay a subscription fee like XBLA, but instead of just being allowed to play games online, we also get games and items to download and keep every month for no further charge". Which really, for those of us who have no interest in playing online anyway, ends up being a pretty good deal. I haven't once regretted signing up, and have scored quite a few games and cool downloadables. Well over $400 worth at least, which is far more then the $50 I paid. Plus, things getting Journey one week before everyone else means we can actually help developers by generating extra hype and interest in the a worthy game so the true launch would be even better.
Reviews, previews and advertising do a lot more for journey's sales than PS+ subscribers will ever do.

But at least you admitted you were wrong, those games are not free so do not say they are. Saying you think PS+ is better than XBLA doesn't make my point less valid.
Where did he admit he was wrong? I would still define PS+ games as free because if buy enough then you get your money back. Suppose you can get a sixty dollar game or two thirty dollar games, if you paid 50 bucks for the service, you're up 10 bucks.

I don't like your cynical and critical demeanor. People come on here to suggest games for some fortunate soul to buy and you come on and attack someone for a simple error. I've seen redundancies in official or widely known icons and everyone lets it slip or doesn't care.

PSN games I have loved:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (best game in the whole series, which pretty much makes it the best side-scroller in the history of ever)
Dead Nation (see zombies, shoot zombies, rinse and repeat)
echochrome (puzzles of perspective -- what you see is what is real)
Pac-Man Super Championship Blah-Blah (thirty years later it's just as addicting, only prettier)
Super Stardust (it's Asteroids on crack, I have a weakness for the classics)

Disc titles you must own:

inFamous (either or both -- free-climbing electric man saves city! Film at 11)
Dead Space (either or both -- zombies in space, shaken not stirred, with a twist of psychosis)
Burnout: Paradise (even if you don't like racing games)
Batman: both Arkham titles (every game should be this good)
ICO/Shadow of the Colossus collection (aesthetic minimalist platforming, wonderfully far from the beaten path)
Valkyria Chronicles (brilliant strategy game)

Pickup Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3. If you want to just play the Killzone 3 multiplayer you can download it by itself for $15, although you can probably find a used copy of the game for around that online. And if you get Uncharted 3 before the next map pack is released, I'd pick up the Fortune Hunters Pass as well. It's $25 but you get all the skins, maps, and co-op modes up to the last release which costs around $65 if all bought separately.

In my opinion the multiplayer to those games is leaps and bounds above Battlefield 3's, especially Uncharted 3's. There is a huge patch coming for BF3 although I doubt it'll make the game feel any less like CoD in unnecessarily big maps.

I don't know about anything that's free, nor do I know much about PSN other than DLC. I know a bit, but not much. Sorry...

As for other games and stuff, inFamous and inFamous 2 are great, and if you like JRPGs the PS3's got Tales of Graces f and Disgaea 4, though I've never played Disgaea 3, as well as pretty much every Final Fantasy before X on PSN. Atelier Totori is alright, but it's not great. Valkyria Chronicles is also really good. PS3 also has the Sly Cooper collection and the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus package. Little Big Planet and LBP 2 are great, as is the God of War collection. It's also got Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted.

If you don't have a 360, don't discount the non-exclusives! El Shaddai, BlazBlue, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Catherine, Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3... The list goes on, depending on your interests.

Don't believe anyone who bashes the PS3. It's just as good as the 360, if not better. Personally, I like PS3's exclusives more, so if I had to choose, I'd pick the Playstation.

Haha, thanks for the replies!

inFAMOUS and uncharted are on my list of games to get, along with Mgs 4 and the Mgs remake! I was thinking of trading Battlefield 3 in, but then I used the online code and I doubt it'll be worth much now QQ
I don't know if you were thinking about buying inFamous digitally, I have a 50% off voucher that came with inFamous 2 if you want. Also Valkyria Chronicles is a pretty awesome turn-based, realtime combat, strategy JRPG.
Hey, I checked out inFAMOUS and loved it! Would it be possible to grab that voucher from you :D?

They didn't say they were wrong, true, but by admitting that the games need to be paid for in the same way as you pay to get on XBL they pretty much did. I'll retract that if you would like.

Being good value is not the same as being free and you are misinterpreting the word by saying it is free.

Adverb:
Without cost or payment: "ladies were admitted free".

The games are not free, you have to pay to access them. Do not spread misinformation. If they were free you would not have to part with money to access them.
Why are you in this thread? You are just starting crap and you know it.

Anyway, If you want a pretty good exclusive series then I would recommend the Yakuza Series. The Writing of the interesting characters and the combat system make it worth the purchase.

I'm just not letting people spread misinformation.

If I bought a PS3 and was told by people I would get free games I would be pissed so I'm making sure it doesn't happen to the OP.

Sorry If I'm not bowing to our overlords in Sony HQ.
PS + is a paid service to receive discounts, early releases, exclusive demos and cosmetic items on the cheap.

See I just explained it without the cynicism.

If you like FPSs give Resistance or Killzone a try they're both pretty well designed and very fun though the latter is the more challenging of the two.
If third person shooters are more your thing then give Uncharted a try, the cinematics alone are worth it. Metal Gear Solid 4 is also good but it's actually more of an espionage/stealth game than a true third person shooter for obvious reasons.
The God of War franchise is available in its entirety on the PS3 so if you've ever wanted to play it now is your chance which reminds me, the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat brings an additional fighter in the form of Kratos. He's not a game changer or anything but he complements the game well so there's that.
On a different note Twisted Metal was just released and it's a pretty fun, if a little short, throwback to the old days of vehicular combat.
Other than that just remember that most games that come out for the 360 usually find their way to PS3 as well and that if they do the differences are usually negligible so just pick what you like.
Well I guess that covers all the bases.

If you think that's cool, Paul Saunders has *three* PS3s.

I don't think I can help you beyond what's already been said. Sorry, I'm kinda useless. I would recommend going on Craigslist or eBay and buying some games that way though. The PS3 is old enough now that you can some older, yet still great, games mad cheap.
