There are a TON of games that I would argue are "PC games" that don't work on consoles, DA2 is NOT one of them, in fact its the opposite. There are a select few games that are console games, due to controls, camera angles, and gameplay in general.
true statement, it really is the opposite; it's a Console game that doesnt work on a PC

Having completed the game I didn't find the tactics lacking , maybe a little slow in triggering so have to allow larger margin for error and occasional need to pause and assign heals and crowd control.

Not always smooth, a little buggy in quest closure. I noted three side quests that didn't clear out of your log despite completion and reward. Nothing worthy of a "unplayable" label.

Lastly, humorous voice acting. Welsh elf mage ^^

Finicky and annoying with a camera that doesn?t have a big enough range of view considering you are supposed to be able to see and control all the character during battle, sure but it?s certainly playable. Anyway, the difficulty might be a bit high for you, you should try out controlling them yourself for such things using the space to pause, maybe you have them stuck on hold because you accidently clicked ?H? and you need to undo that, or there might be something else wrong. Plenty of people are managing though.

I love the game, but (I'm not sure if it's the AI or whatnot) there seems to be a point after the deep roads where the difficulty curve is like running into a brick wall. Normal enemies are fine, but every boss battle is frustrating and needs to be repeated. Maybe I just suck, but has anyone else noticed this?
The bosses are significantly harder than the cannon fodder.

actually being a 360 gamer normally i decided to step out of my comfort zone and try the DA:2 demo on PC, honestly had a great time with it and will probably buy it once my backlog becomes a little more manageable..

so in this case i believe i have to call P.E.B.K.A.C error on OP's part..

Huh. I thought the first one was awful, but what I've played of the sequel is great. It almost makes me like the fantasy genre.

OP - Must just be rubbish at the game.
Never had any of those problems in DA2
Also, you 'borrowed' a PC version of DA2?
I lol'd.

No it's not just you. Have you ever tried to fight the Arishok as a rogue? I'm not too proud to admit I had to turn the difficulty down for a few of the main bosses.
Holy shit man, Arishok on my rogue on Nightmare.

Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead.

NEARLY WINNI-DEAD.

The absolute rage.

I'm like, it's k, I'll turn it down to hard just for this fight.

Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I hate his charging attack. I went back to an earlier save and refused the one on one duel. You have to kill everyone now but at least you got your team >.<

Yeah, the AI was pretty horrible. I have more than one story of companions not following me or getting stuck in geometry. I tried using the tactics menu to assign each party member a role but Anders would never heal properly and Varric would always think of himself as a melee DPS. Most of the times Avelyne died and Hawke followed suite. I'd end up with Varric and a mana depleted Anders against a boss. I'd kite the boss with Varric and use potions to keep myself alive whilst Anders slowly depleted the boss health.

These are legit complaints from the PC side of the game. Dragon Age 2 is a very very poor console port to PC. The controls and Camera are built to be played on a console and use the limited in puts of a controller. when on mouse and key board the camera becomes very sticky and sluggish not being as responcisve as how you would see it on a controller. the controls are very lackluster and restrictive on the keyboard, unlike how you would see on a controller.

the Graphics of the PC version are absolute shit. there is no getting around it and there is no ignoring it. Background Textures are litterally often low resolution, and primary textures are very flat. They are bad and it is noticable. This is so well known that the PC version has a downloadable Add-on which contains 'High Definition Textures' yet these higher resolution textures are by no means any better as you'll still find pixilation in background textures and a lot of flatness.

quiet litterally, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has better graphics and details inspite of being on a near decade old engine.

also, because of the way the dragon age 2 engine processes particals and effects, it chews up your hardware for absolutely no reason... it is kinda astonishing to have the game lag on a hex-core computer, but it does.

these are all known honost to God issues which is why the game has recieved such poor ratings from the community.
I'm not experiencing ANY of those issues. DA2 is one of the best Console->Pc ports I've seen. The controls are fluid, the interface is designed just like DA:O (for combat, anyway) and the only area with bad visuals was the outskirts of Lothering.

Seriously, take a look at this screenshot and tell me the game has awful graphics:

As for the engine itself, I have never experience any slowdown whatsoever, and I'm on a dual-core Athlon 64 5.2ghz, a Geforce 8800GT 512mb and 4GB of RAM. The framerate didn't dip, even with 4xAA.

Everyone who harps about this game being Ruined Forever completely neglects to mention the story. It's honestly the most intricate and well-orchestrated narrative Bioware's ever made, and all anyone talks about is how awful it is that you can't change your party's shoes anymore.

Not that I don't miss the shoe-changing, to be honest, but I feel like it's more than made up for in the storytelling department.
Thank you. I'm actually finding the character interaction to be some of the best I've ever seen in any game, period. Every part of it: the characters act and move naturally, and have very natural seeming body language and gestures. Companions banter and interject during conversations in natural and believable ways, and you can tap them to speak in situations where they have something to say. The story hints that some companions have relationships without needing Hawke to be their social glue. I really feel like the NPCs are their own people, not just lackeys needing me to point them in every direction.

And speaking of Hawke, his/her personality changes based on the type of dialogue options you favour. NPCs will even comment on it. A role-playing game that actually has "role-playing"!

I have my issues with DA2, but the above sweeps most of the aside, and I really hope this type of storytelling becomes the model for narrative-driven games in the future.

You're complaining about the camera? Lol woot? This evidence alone proves that you suck!

why do people hate DA or Skyrim like games?

If it's not your kinda game shut it.

And dear OP: If the game is actually too ugly, download the hi-res textures. They are pretty awesome.
If the camera sucks, your doing it wrong.
If you are not able to not dying - play other games. Ran through this game on hard with the preset tactics - had to pause to give some orders a couple of times, but so what. Like CS - or if you want to feel great at a RPG-thingy, play a Death Knight on WoW.

You hate it for the wrong reasons, since the game looks good, and plays great. You might need to switch the tactics for your characters. My problem is the game is too stream lined, little customization for characters, and the story inst that interesting, now I'm only half way through. But I want a story to be great start to finish.

I found this game pretty easy tbh. If you have your mage set to damager the default AI command is to use thier heal on themselves. You might need to fiddle with it. Are you stuck on the first ogre? It's fun to make him kill his friends by making him charge :D

Huh...you'd think with all the hours I've put into Mass Effect 2 and DA:O that I would have noticed such a profound difference.

Well done sir, I bow my head in defeat.

Umm my thoughts are that the PC version is easily the best and easiest to control, my comparison being to DA:O on PS3. The graphics are also signficantly better, and I'm playing the game on Very High, all DX11 features enabled, with HD Textures on. As for combat - set the tactics right. They aren't very intuitive, I'll give you that. I fool around with them a lot to try and get them right, but in most easier encounters I don't have to control too many party members. Anyway here's some combat footage on PC:
