Do you notice the difference between the bass songs on Scott Pilgrim and the songs you posted that they are on slap bass

Obviously there are exceptions to the rules but every single bass solo on Scott Pilgrim were sloppy, boring and could be written by amateurs. However they would have sounded far better on a guitar

Just ask yourself this, how many classic rock songs have a guitar solo in. Then ask how many classic rock songs have bass solos

How is the comic terrible?

I find less gritty comics to be boring at the best of times

I find the video game references gimmicky and stupid

It wasn't terrible but it just wasn't that good

To seem like less of an ass then you should have just said, "This comic isn't in my taste." or "I don't really like comics like Scott Pilgrim."

Opinions are crazy things, but just saying something is downright terrible is a bit much.
