Is it as buggy as the disc version?
I got it on disc a few months back, and after it constantly decided to crash after I leave the first building, I gave up and left it in the "Fuck this" pile. Will I have the same problem on the Steam version?

Also, any good ideas for characters I should make if I do get it?

Typing this again as apparently my browser doesnt like the site or something.
Anyway dont know much about the crashes, hardly ever crashed on me and I played through the game a few times. Maybe if you get the latest patches it would fix it.
There's alot of cool prestige classes on top of the ordinary ones. I started out as a fighter and multied into weapon master specializing in great swords, took a few feats in great swords like monkey grip (allows dual wielding of two handed weapons). Then thanks to the crafting mechanic made myself some +5 great swords, its hard to find something that beats that in the original game.
Ran the game on windows XP if it helps at all.

And thanks, that seems... interesting. Any classes that are sort of Battlemage-y?

There's the warlock class which is very battle suited, while seemingly casting spells you dont actually have to memorize anything (but there will be a potential warlock to join your party at the later stages of the game so maybe thats not the best option for well balanced party). Then there are the traditional wizard/sorcerer/bard classes which you can multi with a bit of fighter/ranger and the likes. There's a whole bunch of prestige classes as I mentioned (so I have trouble remembering them all). Then there's the option of making an evil cleric which plays somewhat as a cross between fighter an a mage.

It runs fine on my Win7 Laptop.

As for classes, I found Druid to be a Lot of fun, although one of your other early party members is a druid too.

So what IS Neverwinter Nights? I know that it's D&D based but... is it kind of like just playing The Witcher? I'm completely blind on what that game involves.
Watching videos doesn't help much, just seems like Dawn of Twilight footage.

EDIT: Sorry, don't know whats in my head right now. Not Edge of Twilight, I meant to say Dungeon Siege.

It basically plays like a more complex Dragon Age. Thats the best way I can describe it.

And when I say complex I mean more complex moves, strategies, tactics, ect. Also more number-watching.

More character customization, less moral dilemas. Plays somewhat similarly to games like icewind dale and baldurs gate. The first one had one character and optional henchman assiting the main character battling through a scourge of monsters and completing quests (NWN aurora engine is the one used in witcher, as well as KOTOR and Jade Empire). The second one has a party, more like the old RPGs, you have potential characters which you can take into your party (up to certain limit - about 3/4 additional character), you ofcourse go ahead and kill a lot of stuff, complete quests, then there is a certain castle management in the middle of the game which is much fun (atleast for me) and gathering allies for the final battle.

There's a whole class for just the job - Eldritch Knight.

Been around a decade since I last played Gothic, so dont really know what to tell you on that one. Now between NWN and KOTOR ... its largely a difference in setting rather than gameplay. If you like star wars you should probably try KOTOR first, if you like fantasy/D&D more then NWN2 is rather nice and has that spirit of classic RPGs instead of what passes for RPGs these days.

Both games have their selling points, KOTOR is for the Starwars crowd, NWN is a return to the classic D&D style RPG based on the Forgotten Realms :) Both of them are fun and challenging in their own way so my advice is get them both, play them both through a few times with different play style and have lots of fun :)

I always went for the Thief/Rogue/Druid style of game play for Neverwinter, thats what I feel more comfortable playing and I cant remember but there is a Paladin style character I think and some thing that resembles a Battlemage.... Its been so long since I played lol.

Ugh, I got Neverwinter Nights 2 on Steam and I can't stand it. Firstly there's the fact that they decided to convert the D&D 3rd edition system as directly as possible, but make it real time. Now that worked quite well with KotOR, but that's because they didn't try to convert all the combat mechanics that really don't work with a human DM, like the spell system...

Actually I just realised that you weren't asking what people thought of the game itself, so I'll just stop there rather than ranting.

just to verify, played and beat the whole game on windows 7 running flawlessly.
Now about this, my computer runs Windows 7. It's nothing special, but it can play Half Life 2 and Dragon Age: Origins perfectly smoothly with quite high settings. But when I try to play NWN 2 on anything other than the lowest settings (or quite close to them, anyway) I get pretty horrible lag. I normally don't mind turning down settings for smooth performance but this game looks ugly as sin on low settings.

Ok, NWN 2 on steam has a massive problem.
The walk animations are bugged.

It looks like lag, but it's not. The actual combat is smooth. Dialogue is clear.
But the characters jolt when the walk.

It's annoying enough for me to regret my purchase. I got up to the swamp and then quit because it was so jarring.

Perhaps its a conflict of old verses new for the people who are having issues with bugginess and seeming lag? I dont know much about that kind of thing (I just play games I dont know about performance specs lol I have a computer tech whiz friend for that) but I have Diablo 2 and all its expansions on my massive gaming system (that my friend built for the specific purpose of playing games like Startrek Online, Star wars the Old republic((when it comes out lol)), Dragon age and Mass effect) with Windows XP and Diablo has no issues at all.

I think its an older game then Neverwinter, (correct me if Im wrong please) or it was around the same era of gaming and it has no issues when playing, no bugginess, no glitches, its as smooth as silk.

Anyway, Yes, I can confirm that the expansions are also a lot of fun :)

Okay, so I might need some help. There's not laggy animations so far, but there is one big issue.
About every 5 minutes or so the screen goes black, the game minimizes, and then comes back. After about 5 of these in one session, it quits. Meaning that it took me nearly an hour to complete the harvest fair, when that should have taken, what, 30 mins max?

Any help?
