It's sitting at a 62 on metacritic right now with 17 reviews in. Mostly positive, some mixed, with no really bad reviews.

For a comedy that isn't terrible honestly.

Still have no interest in seeing it since it seems content to just lift scenes from the first movie wholesale rather than making something new, however it really isn't the train-wreck that people are making it out to be.

It's a pretty average comedy.

So despite all the controversy this movie turned out to be average to mediocre? Does this mean everyone will have to go find a new battle ground to continue quarreling with feminists?

While I can actually agree that the way the media peddled the misogyny angle when dealing with dissenters was kind of ridiculous, I have to wonder how much harder it would have been for them to do so if every comment section wasn't filled with "The SJWs have ruined Ghostbusters! Damn studio is pandering to feminists!"
It would have been a lot easier to take this whole controversy seriously if it weren't so over the top from the beginning.

Well one has to remember the comment section wasn't filled with that until Sony started removing everything that wasn't such comments or positive ones.

Given this is the company which threatened legal action against the cast of the original to force them to cameo in this one, it's nowhere near the most bankrupt thing they did regarding this whole trainwreak of a production and marketing. Even if the movie ends up being only mediocre (which, given everything we know, would be a massive accomplishment) the question of if it'll even brake even with the marketing costs is a very open one.

Worry not, critic consensus is mostly that it's a decent film which unfortunately falls short of the original.
But that's the worst part. It just proves how the regressive left controls the media. They are afraid to tell the truth because they fear their cultural marxist masters who are forcing them to write midling-to-positive things about what we all know must be a horrible movie!

Is it really nice? Really? You want the movie to be shit? Because while I had no hopes for it being good, I'm not glad it sucks. I'd like for it to have been the breakout hit of the summer, and actually be a good movie worth our time. To hear it's just as bad as we feared is sad, not nice.
Did you see the number of people who felt retroactively vindicated by the trailer?

If it confirms our presuppositions, that confirms that we were correct to presuppose them. That's how logic works, right?

The funny thing is the movie's sitting at aggregates of like 62 and 74. While these are far from movie of the year scores (and really, did anyone say this was going to be movie of the year?), they're still far from the shit that was being predicted, and it kind of makes the people clinging to the bottom most scores come off as desperate.

With the amount of hate this movie received from the get go, it turns the apparently decent comedy (74% on Rotten Tomatoes) into a large letdown.

Is anyone really surprised from the result considering all the controversy? Hopefully studios in the future will attempt to remain true to the series while revamping it for the current generation.

I'm afraid so. After #You know what, I've given in. I am too old for this game. Retiring. I want love. Not war.

Why do people care so much about this movie? There are so many excellent films every year that fall between the cracks, and so much energy has been spent discussing this one.

It's because it's another shitty reboot of a beloved franchise by people who are just a hair away from openly hating the source material, do openly hate the fanbase and have a marketing department who are so incompetent it's a genuine surprise that Sony only fired Amy Pascal over this instead of sending the entire marketing department with her (to say nothing of the production nightmare the entire thing has been from information revealed in the Sony hack and other sources) you get to the point where discussion about the movie is more entertaining then the movie itself could possibly be. I know Midnight's Edge multiple long videos on the matter, if refined into a single documentary, would be miles more entertaining then the movie itself could possibly be.

I genuinely would not be surprised if a legitimate documentary was made on the nightmare that was the making of this movie, and highly doubt it would be anything but leagues ahead of it in entertainment value.

Yes indeed I did, because it's an acronym describing exactly how I feel about this whole situation. Is that a problem? (That's really just a rhetorical question, I don't really care either way :p)

Because this movie was proof positive that those people are always wrong, and everyone should listen to us and not them!

If anything I think it's proof that Sony did an excellent job exploiting outrage culture. Good or bad they would have people tooting horns if it was good or defending it, this thread is full of the latter.

It was ok that Ghostbusters fans not like the idea of female cast(if you preferred it that's ok too).

Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty lousy metric these days. Metacritic is probably a bit better due to the fact it doesn't use a binary scale. It's gotten to the point where you need to aggregate the aggregate sites to get a decent concept of where a film is at.

63 on Metacritic is pretty bad, but it's not as bad as the trailers might have lead one to believe was possible. Incidentally, the original only scores a 67 on Metacritic. Heathens!

So, as someone who thought...

1. This film never should have been made to begin with

and

2. The trailers looked absolutely horrendous

...these reviews really aren't that bad at all. Almost surprisingly good, actually. OP engaged in some shameful cherry picking for this thread.

I am just happy that this can all be concluded now. Personally, I am more interested in Star Trek Beyond and its possible "Star Wars-ification" and how I feel about that. I am looking forward to going to see that movie soon. As for Ghostbusters, meh. It scoring decent doesn't make me any more interested in it but I am happy for those who wanted to enjoy the film. At least it has an audience for what it offers.

It's currently at 66 on Metacritic. For a comedy, that's actually a pretty good score. The trailers didn't seem funny to me, but humor is so incredibly subjective that it doesn't surprise me that lots of people are genuinely liking it. Do you really want to see people get worked up over this movie so badly that you'd cherry pick to of the worst reviews? I have no intention of watching the thing until it one day comes on Netflix, so if you're trying to dissuade people from buying tickets because... reasons, have no fear! I won't be buying one.
