Does anyone else find similarities between Borderlands and Ratchet & Clank? I love the aesthetics of both and the absurd sci-fi gameplay.

In terms of the Borderlands games... I like them, BL2 is one of my favourite games ever. But the writing is extremely inconsistent. There's a decent sense of scale, characterisation and momentum but the gags suck. Some of the scenarios prompted a few giggles out of me though.

If a BL3 (BL4?) comes out I'll definitely play it. I find the gameplay satisfying. It reminds me of Doom crossed with Diablo. Yeah you're gunning down the same guys over and over again but I eat that shit up.

It's more like CoD crossed with Diablo, but I want it to be Doom crossed with Diablo with faster combat and a more run and gun style rather then then the kind of bunker style they have now.

I don't know, Borderlands has an infinitely greater variety of enemies than Call of Duty. It even has a greater variety of enemies than Doom, though due to the grinding nature of Borderlands it doesn't stay as fresh.

It is frustrating on challenge mode where enemies can dispatch you in two or three hits while you're stuck with pea shooters, though. It makes no logical sense how a pistol you get at the end of the second playthrough can be literally thousands of times more powerful than one you pick up at the start of the first.

Funny story, I was hungover when playing the last mission of BL2 and that ruined the entire game for me. Besides that anecdote, I'm just really bored with the IP, they DO feel exactly the same.

I love Borderlands. But if they don't let me create a custom weapon from various parts this time, I'll probably get it on discount. Also third person mode. If Rockstar can implement a first person mode in a traditionally third person game, surely these guys can create a third person mode in an FPS. It wouldn't even require any additional animations. Third person exists already when you enter a vehicle. The game just needs a few lines of code for the camera placement.

Actually, I'll add onto it and say they need to learn how to write interesting characters without relying on their sexualities and deformities(whether mental, physical, Siren, etc.) as their major or sole characteristics if they insist on having linear stories.

I mean, the first one was pretty damn funny and it didn't rely on memes, or if it did, it was very little
my main issue is, they keep doing nothing at all with Pandora, which is arguably the most interesting character

the first one had the right idea with the audio logs (especially tannis') detailing the planet itself and its history, so they should do more with that, IMO

Borderlands 2 was good in the gameplay department (got a bit repetitive though) but they need to either fire their writing team or block Imgur/Reddit on their work computers so they actually have to write something instead of relying on tired old memes.

I'll probably give it a miss like I did the pre-sequel.

Can't say I'm too excited. I enjoyed BL1 and BL2, both single and co-op, but they never felt as infinitely-replayable as everyone kept trying to advertise them. Don't get me wrong either, I like gear grind games like Diablo 2 and Path of Exile... so it's not that. I really can't even put my finger on the reason. I absolutely loved BL2 when it came out, talked a friend into buying it, then we both had fun playing through it on its first two difficulties Co-Op... but then we just kinda stopped. There wasn't any complaining or raging or any of that... we just kinda one day started playing something else and never looked back.

Still haven't played the Pre-Sequel. I heard it was a mess, so I didn't bother.

Tales From the Borderlands is pretty great though.

I do like Borderlands (the full games, not interested in the offshoot), it's one of the few vidya game series I'm interested in. Love the aesthetic, theme etc etc, even if I find I don't really play in particularly long stints.
However, I'm one of those people who'll only pick up a GOTY/complete edition at Steam sale prices a year or two down the line, so yeah, if it is another Borderlands FPS I'll probably pick it up in a year or 2 but I'm hardly dancing in the street in anticipation.

I really like the series and while I still need to finish up TPS, I wouldn't mind seeing more of it.

The level design wasn't was good as BL2, it was buggier, and Anthony Burch, a known feminist, had let his biases slip out into the game on more than one occasion, and I felt that he did it for his own sake, not because it served the game in any way. What with the whole interaction with Mr. Torgue and Janey Springs and the man's statement immediately following the encounter. It also bugged me that they ended up making Lilith, an incredibly well-written and likable character, out to be a ***** by the end of the game, which depressed me more than it should have. And then I found out that Maya was written as asexual, which annoyed me because, even though it never could have happened in the first place, I kinda wanted KriegxMaya to at least be touched upon in the next game, but now I know that won't happen on more than one level now. Ugh, I have so many conflicting feelings about this game...

But, back to the original statement, after the mediocrity that was BL:TPS, I'm hesitant to be excited. I'll wait until they reveal it or show stuff before I make any decisions.

I've sunk 300+ hours into BL2, and I would have sunk more into it and the other two titles, because to me it's a blast playing with friends, and I honestly can't tell why. As single player, it is boring as balls, and pretty much everything that Yahtzee has said about it comes true (except for the car controls, because superior mouse control is superior). If I then add one or more friends to my game, the fun is basically never-ending. Sure the story is mediocre, (even though I like Handsome Jack, especially in the Presqueal), all enemies become bullet-sponges when you reach True Vault Hunter Mode (and even more on the UVH Mode), and the "difficulty" is just that the enemy health is ramped up tenfold and they hit like a runaway bus. With friends, this is all icing on the cake, alone this is all more shit to the shitstorm.

Love Borderlands, but if BL3 will gett anounced (which I doubt since they are going to release a BL2/TPS bundle for PS4/Xbone in March) I might be indiffirent about it.

If Burch is the main writer again for the story than I'll most likely skip the next title. While he wasn't the main writer in TPS, he wrote mister Torgue out of character (something about the friendzone being misogynistic).

Heh, guess I'm one of the few who loves TPS. They should fire Butch though, he can only write meme's and incosistent stories full of plotholes..

Debatable, I can't remember much from BL1, it just seemed really empty and I just couldn't bring myself to care(soloplay might have something to do with it, but I still expect it to be memorable in SOME way other than boring). BL2 slightly better in the funny bits, but mostly just based purely on guns being references and some of the bandit lines that got really old really quick. They're incredibly reliant on outside sources for comedy(with the exception of the Hammerlock missions, they're one of the very few exceptions, and even they're based on older punchlines of greedy/cowardly Victorian era adventurers acting like they've seen it all.) If they just added in like another hour of lines for the players, that would add alot to keeping the game from getting stale as quickly(seriously, for a game that has playtimes averaging around 35 hours, they're woefully undervoiced since you've heard everything that can be said in a fight by hour three.). I don't know how many times I heard Zero spout the same haiku, Gaige the same three lines, or Krieg the same things that only reinforced the "I'M CRAZY, NO SERIOUSLY I'M CRAZY" archetype lines over the course of an hour.

As for Tannis...She does nothing for me. And as much as I despised the Caustic Caverns(I seriously think Threshers and Varkids only work the way they do because they couldn't figure out something smart or less bulletspongey) it was the best storytelling experience in the game. The area was just wonderfully detailed, and the audio recordings, while predictable, went really well along with it and both told a decent story, not to mention gave the area character, something missing from the rest of the game. And I'ld like to see more of that in any other BL game, but I'm not too hot on buying much of shit coming from Gearbox anytime soon, too much crap coming from them as far as I'm concerned the last few years.

But yeah, I will agree that I'm more interested in the history of Pandora than I am of pretty much any character in the franchise, with the exception of Zero simply because I'm curious about the rest of the universe that doesn't relate to the Sirens(seriously, I wish they'd stop expanding on that lore, it's not all that interesting anyways and introducing more every game just takes away the little bit of uniqueness they had, not to mention since there's only supposed to be like four in the universe at any point in time and by BL2 we know of three).

Was unaware of that. I watched Seabats(Adam, friend of LRR) play through it intermittently when it came out, and I knew it was heavy-handed in those areas, but I didn't realize it was THAT heavy-handed. This just adds to my own belief that the guy doesn't know how to write characters without making their sexuality(ies) and/or deformations(not meant as a negative) take center stage and take up the majority of their character traits. Also he likes using his creations as megaphones for his...views I suppose the best word would be.

Atleast Burch didn't write the main story for TPS (only had a bit of saying in it), which is a good thing if you ask me.
It is not an secret that I don't like Burch writing for BL at all. And start to gett sick of his agenda pushing in the games.

I don't mind character that are bi, gay or anything in between, but at points, like other have pointed out, he relies his writing around that.

And this is more of an personal oppinion but anyway: Lilith was always cocky to some extend but TPS's ending downright made me hate her. Seriously.

I agree about Lilith (who ended up annoying me too because I found her rather relate-able throughout the Dragon's Keep DLC ("I had to suffer for my geekdom", etc) but they way they just made her this... unlikable jerk just seems a little weird.

I disagree about Maya because asexuals exist in the world too and if they can kill jokes about Janey Springs being gay then they can have the public deal with the fact that ONE character can be a strong female and legitimately not be interested in ANYONE, even the one guy who's trying so hard to change for her. Just my two cents, though~ And this is excluding "I'm autistic and super special and smart" Tannis who vomits from being called pretty because that's just Flanderization. (I hate Tannis with the burning passion of the Eye of the Destroyer)

I DID, however, love the HELL out of both Jack and his Doppelganger. Maybe it's that I like Dameon Clarke's performance but I think the game really did shine in that aspect even if the rest of it was... good. I won't call it mediocre (jeez, people in this thread are really downers) but I agree that it wasn't AS good as BL 2.

I'll say what I said before, though; I'm excited but for now, I'll settle with DLC with Pre-Sequel and playing through with my friend (who's like REALLY super excited for Aurelia). I'm still looking forward to more Tales from the Borderlands, though; I can get behind BL in TT format

Enemy verity is very good in BL and 2 even more so. It's actually the thing that made me think of doom. Oh and the two-three hits thing bad. That is honestly the biggest problem the game has. I found that BL2 played better at the start then the end because weapons rapidly over power shields at higher levels. In the low levels it takes a good 4 or five shots to get through your shields, but enemies also take a good few shots to take down too. You end up having to dual with an enemy for a bit before you take them down.

The idea that he wrote a character as asexual isn't my problem. I'm annoyed that he made MAYA asexual. Maya, the object of Krieg's affections.

I mean, we all know that Maya wasn't going to end up with Krieg on the basis that he's god damn insane and murders people for fun. But he specifically said that he wasn't going to because she's asexual. Not because he's beyond batshit insane, but because she's asexual.

As for Jack and his doppleganger, I never beat The Pre-Sequel, so I never really started a new character with the Doppleganger, which I did purchase, but I did like Jack in the game, although I liked him a little less because he wasn't kinda off like he was in BL2.
