in the words of comedian Lewis Black "Whats the difference between a Democrat and a Republican? A Democrat blows, A Republican sucks."

or another good one

"The Democratic party, which is a party of no ideas, and the Republican party, which is a party of bad ideas. and the way it works is, the Republican stands up in Congress and goes 'I got a really bad idea!' and the Democrat says 'and I can make it shittier!'"

i dont take politics seriously

As someone mentioned, it's far too early to tell other than that he writes nice speeches. At least for non-american citizens, since we don't normally get to hear about the smaller policy changes.

I will tell you this much, though - he's overrated. During and just after the election I kept reading about how he would save the world and cure cancer. No. He won't. He's an american politician (note that he's one person, not an army) that belongs to the democrat party, which means he adheres to democrat policies. And I seriously have very low expectations from anyone that represents a two-party system.

Rockstar politician elected on hype and false hope. Sort of like Tony Blair.

Obama's Presidency is going to be defined by this recession, as in people are going to blame him because he didn't manage to turn the entire economy of the US around in his first year regardless of the fact that the rest of the world is also trying to figure out who they owe money to.

He's an intelligent, charismatic guy and personally I hope that he does well, but at the moment I fear that he is going to become a scapegoat. But then I'm cynical.

Hahaha - yeah that was one his good lines I think haha...

See what I like about Obama is that... I don't think he like tries so hard on being somewhat divine or something he doesn't try so hard to seem straight down the line and uptight.. he just seems like a regular guy. And a realist.. I don't think I've ever seen him say everything will be alright indefinately - esp. not with this whole economic crisis that's got everyone in a state... he admits that all the work in fixing things will be hard and the road to achieving that takes some time... the fact that he's realistic about what he's planning is I guess somewhat admirable.

I mean I'm in no way a person to properly commentate about how well he's doing, I'm not an American citizen... but from what I'm seeing lately, his willingness to out reach Iran diplomaticly and peacefully, and his willingness to repair ties with South American nations such as Cuba and Venezuala are somewhat... astounding..

But again, I'm not one to properly commentate of course :p.

But I think he's ok. Yeah, he's still a politician but he seems like a pretty good guy. I guess all I can say afterwards is that I'm thankful the American people didn't vote in another 4 years of Bush via McCain. And what were the Republicans actually thinking putting McCain up for election.. then Sarah Palin... sitting back watching it all I really didn't think that they had a chance... and I'm still shocked to this day that the vote was still pretty evened out..

That was Clinton, actually, not Bush. Bush was probably a cokehead and an alcoholic when he was younger.

It'd be a pretty premature judgement to make at this stage of his stint as president but I'd say he's not doing bad. Hasn't done anything particularly wonderful either but he hasn't fucked up, which I suppose is the main thing you've got to concern yourself with in politics.

To be honest, he reminded me a lot of Tony Bliar - charming, can give a good speech, looks nice for the cameras. Gets into office and thinks "Right............."
Not to mention the fact that he ran into trouble with 3 (I think) of his appointees before even taking office.

I'll wait and see, although judging by the bailouts he's been doing I'm not hopeful.

Doing coke a couple of times in highschool and coming from a broken home doesn't make someone working class or disadvantaged.
