So, what's your RPG weapon?

It certainly is hard to beat a lightsabre... or two... or two double-bladed lightsabres... yes that sounds like the next reasonable step of over-poweredness in the Star Wars universe.

However once somebody comes along with a six-bladed lightsabre, possibly on a hat, and I have to think of my actual weapon, I'd go for a water pistol. Why? Well it's so pathetic, it would have to use a D3!

Thus utterly breaking the rules, I automatically win; bad guy dies, princess is saved, etc.

Try imagining a three sided dice. If you can, build it and send it to the papers; you're gonna be famous.

A top hat made out of nanomachines (or magic, depending on the time period) that answers to the name Reginald. Depending on the threat level and numbers of the enemy, Reginald morphs into a bladed propeller beanie, an all devouring cloud of molecular disassemblers, or a freaking sweet arm blade/special attack shield to keep the boss fights interesting.

Or, you know, whatever has the most stats onnit.

Why the wrist mounted dog launcher of course ^_^
Ok, that made me lol...

OT: I would probably be simple and stick to 1-handed swords, though my preferance is between longswords/broadswords and rapiers.

Given the chance though, I'd have a spring-loaded blade mounted to my wrist/s.

Hmm...

Nah, sorry, I'd have to go with the good ol' wakizashi. I got one for like $100, but this is an RPG, so breaking isn't a problem.

A well trained combatant, using a single Wakizashi in combat is simply awe inspiring.

Considering ANYTHING can be a weapon....

I deign to use a Demon Prince from Warhammer 40k. Not a Demon Prince bound to a weapon or anything like that, but an actual Demon Prince of Khorne, being wielded by me like a sword, against hordes of opponents. Can you think of the carnage?

Enemy: NOW, in the name of the Dark Lord Cuddleybut, you will perish! Draw your weapon and fight me coward!

Me: Okay.

Weapon: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Awesome.
Big problem with that. Khorne cares not whence the blood flows, only that it does. As for me a i would be a weapon ie a Daemon prince of Tzeentch or Slaanesh. The Talon of Horus if i couldn't get the daemon prince gift.
Not necessarily. Considering that, upon seeing a large group of enemies over the horizon possibly mocking it. There is a good chance that a Demon Prince of Khorne would go after the largest group of them, instead of the one nearby. Hell, if it's smart enough to survive long enough to become a Demon Prince, it would understand that the strange human wielding it around like a sword brings it MORE blood.

Still, I cannot underestimate the psychological advantages wielding a Slaaneshi Demon Prince into battle. Those poor, poor, poor mooks. At least Tzeentch would just, possibly, turn them into mindless slaves and alter their body so much they wouldn't be recognized as their own species but at least Slannesh won't do the thing he/she's best at. Namely Rape.

I'd have to go with my favorite weapon of all time: the flamethrower!

Not those piddly gas-flamers like you get stuck with in Fallout (though something like the Heavy Incinerator would be awesome) but one that uses liquid fuel. Bonus points if its on a tank or a boat! Muahahahahaburnbabyburn

i would bring with me a Duke Nukem so i wouldn't have to do any work

Interesting question. Very entertaining, and very good novel answers. Also, my avatar has ninja'd Twad's answer above. :p

The OP and some posters with innovative answers should try the Mumorpuguh Fallen Earth sometime. (I got bored with it inside of four weeks, but I always do that.) You start with a fire axe for the intro/training, then die in a cutscene, then I can't remember what you start with. Crafting is a large part of the game, so early weapons and armor tend to look like the offhand equipment that people might initially use during a Zombie Apocalypse ( http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Melee+Weapons ). FE melee weapons include axe handles, lawn mower blades, crude spear, hammers, shovel, and my personal favorite, the pickaxe. Its slow and heavy, but a pickaxe to the skull is usually an insta-kill. [Its also unrealistic that someone can't duck a pickaxe!]

Ignoring firearms, because my avatar will save me, were I transported to an RPG, I would run away screaming. Then I would realize that I'm pretty much doomed anyway, so I would pick up an axe. Then I'd get bored with the axe and try a sword. Then I'd get bored with the sword and...

If I were transported to a JRPG, I would pick up any weapon at hand, and then attack the first person that I could find who had either: 1) a sword larger than a pony, 2) mind-numbingly bizarre hair, 3) way too many belts, or any other combination of those that might lead me to believe that that person was the main character in the JPRG. By attacking the main character, I accomplish one of two things; either the main character dies, the game is over, and I can go home; or I perish in the attempt, which is almost as good as the other option since I won't be in a bloody JRPG anymore.

Green Lantern style power ring.

A scythe is probably isn't practical but I think they look awesome. Also partial to throwing stuff (axes, knives, shurikens, exploding fruit etc.) as long as I have an infinite supply.

Depending on the rules of the game world, indestructible gauntlets + blades would be really appealing.

I was actually going to say "crowbar" earlier, because they are generally hood hefty hunks of metal, and amazingly useful. I seriously need one of those (the katana hilt, not so much...).

Fantasy/modern day RPG: A double-bladed sword. Like what Darth Maul had in Episode 1, only not a lightsaber, obviously (does that type of sword have a proper name? Cos if it does, I've never been able to find what it is).

Futuristic RPG: A space-borne/orbital weapons system, aimed by a small handheld laser device. Serious sniping overkill.

I'm gonna go with an electrified chainsaw sword and a shield that transforms into a mechsuit. It could totally work.

Fantasy: magic, obviously.
"Normal" (as in, GTA stuff): utility knife. No need to draw attention >_>
Sci-Fi: Something I can manipulate electricity with. So I could get kill security cameras/lights/people

-FF1-5, 11, 12, Tactics, Elder Scrolls (medieval/magic): Lance.
-FF6-10, 13 (steampunk/magic): Any gun I can pick up and use IRL.
-Fallout series (post-apocalypse): Anything that's easy to use and repair.
-Pokemon: My current team in Black, except a few levels higher.
-Mass Effect (future tech): A gatling gun.

That's as many different RPG settings as I could think of.
